Thought we had a movie thread. Oh well. If I find it I'll merge it with this one.
Two funniest movies on cable this month are Deadpool2 & The Other Guys. Ryan Reynolds is hilarious. The hot chick who plays Domino has good lines too. "That's disturbing." "Next time use Uber." "I should have finished college."
Reynolds had so many good scenes. His homoerotic thing with Colossus. The speech where he accuses that future cop of racism. When he gasps upon seeing Juggernaut. Then he got ripped in half. "What does he have that I don't? Don't you say legs!" "You killed Back Tom, you racist!" Black Tom wasn't even black. If you haven't seen it I won't tell you what he does with the time machine.
Will Ferrell & Mark Wahlberg are in the other one. They play screwup cops. Wahlberg was obsessed with Ferrell's wife, Eva Mendez. Who wouldn't be? Ferrell had been a pimp in college & has this magical attraction to really hot women.
I highly recommend both.

I highly recommend both. LOVED both Deadpool’s. Ryan Reynolds is great and perfect in the role. Haven’t seen the other one primarily because I’m not a big fan of Ferrell. But I lust Eva Mendez, so I might just have to watch it for her. Caught The Meg (think Jaws on MAJOR steroids) the other night. Not great, but watchable. Big Jason Statham fan, but no fighting in this one. GO DODGERS!!!

Kingsmen: The Secret Service is coming on. Samuel Jackson's performance is great in this one. His lisp & telling that guy they talk funny.
Has he been in just about every Quentin Tarantino film? Don't really care for Tarantino. He uses the 'N' work indiscriminately & purely for shock value. What it had to do with Reservoir Dogs is beyond explanation. The violence in the Kill Bill movies was absurd & he obviously lives off the vapors of 1970's martial arts & black exploitation flicks. I DID like Jackie Brown, however. Good plot. Best performance ever by Pam Grier.
I like the fact he used the Hawthorne Grill in Pulp Fiction & the Cockatoo in Jackie Brown. I miss the Cockatoo. Two new, low budget, hotels have taken the place of that historic landmark. They left the sign up though.
But Jackson is masterful as the villain in Kingsmen.

Love Sam Jackson - I can’t even think of a movie he’s been in I haven’t liked and I can pretty much recite every line he had in Pulp Fiction because I watch at least part of it just about every time it’s on. I tend to agree with you about Tarantino and his OVERUSE of that word. Django Unchained was RIDICULOUS and he seems to think the more he uses it and the “big F”, the more “shocked” we the audience will be. Thing is - it’s just not that shocking or necessary. I just watched every season and episode of Miami Vice on Encore over the last few months and Pam Grier was in a number of them as Tubbs on again / off again girlfriend from New York. The final show had Tubbs quitting Vice and moving back to NYC, presumably to finally be and stay with Val (Ms. Grier). I liked Jackie Brown but probably not as much as some of Quentin’s other work. I’m kind of anxious to see what he does with the upcoming Manson murder film that’s coming out later this year. He’s never been one to shy away from violence and LAPD & the FBI still consider that to be one of the most gruesome and disturbing crime scenes they’ve ever encountered. Went to see the latest Avengers: End Game a few weeks ago - really love those X-Box seats that move and rumble with the action on screen. Overall enjoyed the movie and thought it was a good wrap for the series. GO DODGERS!!!

'Ray' is on. I love that movie.
Mom was a bit of a racist until my daughter was born. Not a bad person at all. But she was born in 1925 in Newton County, Missouri. It was inevitable she would be exposed to racist ideology. She never liked my wife.
But Mom proved a lot to me when Tessa was born. Blood in, blood out. She's family. Tessa walked on water.
Although Mom was a Democrat (from the days of FDR), she was a conservative Democrat. Ripe for the picking when Reagan was building his Bible Belt constituency. But Tessa was born in 1982. The GOP lost one Bible Belter forever.
She voted for Clinton twice (probably the most popular white president ever among African-Americans) & Obama once (she had already broken her hip & was in a home the second time).
She was deeply disappointed in the movie about Johnny Cash & compared it unfavorably to Jamie Foxx's performance in Ray. To the best of my knowledge (& I listened to my parents' music back in the day), Mom didn't like Ray Charles. She LOVED Johnny Cash.
GREAT movie no matter what.

To the best of my knowledge (& I listened to my parents' music back in the day), Mom didn't like Ray Charles. She LOVED Johnny Cash. GREAT movie no matter what. As many times as they’ve been on, I’ve never seen either Ray or Walk The Line. I’ve always admire guys like Mr. Charles and of course, the great Stevie Wonder who learned and play piano without the gift of sight. I play a bit myself and it’s a damn hard instrument to master WITH eyesight. But those two guys are almost magical at not only playing, but also composing, arranging and singing - and they both did it WAY before the “digital age” of computers and other devices that make that work almost mindless these days. All it takes to be a “star” these days is a pretty face and a decent rack. Pair those with a savvy agent / producer and a voice / pitch corrector and bang, another Arianna Grande is born. But getting back to Ray - I am definitely going to have to make it a priority to set aside the time to watch this one. Walk The Line never really interested me as I’m not much of a Johnny Cash or June Carter fan. And it STILL pisses me off to this day that he was somehow elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I don’t think there’s a person in this or any other world (including Mr. Cash himself) that would consider ANYTHING he EVER did or recorded “rock and roll”. But he’s only one of dozens that have found their way into that hall of shame that I found / find ridiculous so don’t even get me started down that road. 😝

Just passed by Gunfight at the OK Corral, starring Burt Lancaster & Kirk Douglass. A barrel chested Douglass as an emaciated tubercular Doc Holliday was really poor casting.
Dennis Quaid played the best Holliday ever, although I prefer the movie Tombstone over 'Wyatt Earp.' About the only Kevin Costner movies I ever liked were his baseball flicks & Open Range. Val Kilmer had the whole baiting / wanting to die Doc Holliday persona down pat too. Although Holliday isn't the one who actually killed Johnny Ringo, that was a great scene where first he frightens Ringo, then lures him into a fight by shivering at just the right moment.

Every Quentin Tarantino Film Ranked From Worst to Best (Photos) William Bibbiani 3 hrs ago 1. "Jackie Brown" (1997) Tarantino's films have always been about exposing the hidden depths in seemingly shallow cinema, but when he finally had a story with actual depth -- courtesy of Elmore Leonard, on whose novel "Rum Punch" this was based -- he knew enough to let it ride. Pam Grier gives an all-time great performance as a flight attendant caught between a smuggler, an ATF agent and an amorous bail bondsman. Her chemistry with Oscar nominee Robert Forster is genuine and rich, and Samuel L. Jackson's performance as a criminal who refuses to admit he's not a mastermind is unpredictably memorable. Meanwhile, Tarantino's deft direction lifts the multi-perspective racetrack centerpiece from Stanley Kubrick's "The Killing," infusing Leonard's story with his own distinctive preoccupations. "Jackie Brown" is Tarantino's smartest, his most earnest and -- in a subtle way (rarely the auteur's strong suit) -- his most beautiful film to date. www.msn.com/en-us/movies/gallery/every-quentin-tarantino-film-ranked-from-worst-to-best-photos/ss-AAEKK2L?ocid=spartanntp#image=12

Legend is on now. It's the story of the Kray twins. Great performance by Tom Hardy, playing both Ron & Reggie.

Cinderella Man is on. An all time classic. They sure made Max Baer out to be a horse's ass though. By most accounts he was a pretty nice guy. Hollywood has to have it's heroes & villains.

Went to see the opening of “The Art of Racing In The Rain” last night for the little woman’s birthday.
First of all and although based on a novel by Garth Stein - terrible title for a movie.
But the movie itself was very good, told from the point of view of the main characters dog voiced by Kevin Costner.
Now I’m the first to admit that I’m a sucker for movies that feature animals, especially dogs. And if you have ever owned a dog, you’re probably going to need a few tissues.
But the overall story was very good and also featured my favorite car that I one day still hope to own - Ferrari.
Probably going to pick up the book now and read it as well. I won’t bore everyone with the plot or details, but I’d definitely recommend it for all ages. Four and a half stars.
GO DODGERS!!!

Inside Man is on. Spike Lee's best flick. Maybe a tie with Malcolm X. Denzel Washington starred in both. Probably no coincidence they're both at the top of Lee's directorial list.

Plus Denzel is just one of those guys that never seems to make a bad movie. Training Day is still one of my favs - probably top ten. Looking forward to the final chapter of It. Pennywise has never been creepier. Likely going to have to wait for it to make its way onto HBO or one of our other gazillion pay stations. No chance in this world I’ll be able to talk the wife into seeing it at the theater. She won’t even watch the first one in the safety and comfort of our home. She’s not a fan of that genre in any way, shape or form. GO DODGERS!!!
