Going to see the final Star Wars movie this Saturday night. Theater is equipped with X-Box seating that move and vibrate with the action on the screen.
Fairly pricey at $42 for the pair, but definitely worth it as we’ve seen quite a few flix over the years in these seats and we probably only go to the theater a couple of times a year.
Hard to believe its been 45 or so years since the original hit the big screen and I had to have my mom drive me and a friend over to the new (at the time) Showcase Cinemas in Erlanger, KY as they were the only local venue that was showing it.
Think the tickets were three or four bucks.
GO DODGERS!!!

I'm watching Taken. The first one. This was what I meant by anger management issues & taking tranqulizers. I would have buried my ex-wife in a shallow grave if she was so transparent as to endanger our child like that. Then there would have been a body trail after that.
I've heard stories about interracial couples having crosses burnt on their lawn by fat & balding racists. Cowards like that never dealt with the likes of me. I would ram that crucifix up their ass & light it on fire. Roasted marshmallows on their burning anuses.
I had a 'friend' beg me for money, while pleading poverty. He was going to lose his house. His family would be homeless. He was afraid of me, but his older brother was a bigshot with LAPD. He got a Homestead Exemption & wrote me off like a credit card in bankruptcy. His brother is retired now.
Anyway, I really like crooked cop movies because they're all bent, that I honestly know. They're all crooks. 90% of cops are twisted.

His brother is retired now. Anyway, I really like crooked cop movies because they're all bent, that I honestly know. They're all crooks. 90% of cops are twisted. I know more than a few decent cops, including three brothers I went to school with, another that I’ve known for probably 50 or so years and one of my favourite cousins. My mom dated a couple of cops when I was growing up and I actually thought I wanted to be one for awhile. I changed my career path after joining my village volunteer fire department after turning 18. Unfortunately, the early 80’s were the “affirmative action” years and after taking the city exam twice a year for four or five years while working at an insurance company, I decided to stay in insurance. I never scored lower than 90 and one year, I missed only ONE question out of 90. I didn’t even merit moving to the next phase. Being a white male made my chances only slightly lower than winning the lottery. I stayed a volunteer for nearly ten years until village budget cuts caused the department to disband. I think back now to the “what if’s” had I made it onto Cincinnati’s FD. I’d probably have never met my wife, so there’s that. But I would also probably be retired and living on a full city pension after 35 years of service. But getting back to cops, for every decent dude like I’ve known above, there’s been five or six complete dicks that I’ve met through them that I wouldn’t piss on if they were on fire. GO DODGERS!!!

I saw Richard Jewel Saturday and highly recommend it! It shows what jerks the FBI can be with their "profiling".

Watching Hacksaw Ridge. It's really amazing how cheaply governments sell our lives.

Watching Hacksaw Ridge. It's really amazing how cheaply governments sell our lives. Caught the first of the two Kingsmen on DVD last night. Pretty good, but I’m still trying to figure out why Samuel L. Jackson played his part with a fairly obvious lisp. Wasn’t necessary and just seemed weird. Part two rolls tonight. Also finally saw Rocketman last week. Again, very good and Taron Egerton (who is also in the Kingsmen movies) did a fine job on Elton’s classics. The one “gay” sex scene in the movie was totally gratuitous and unnecessary. EVERYBODY in the world knows Sir Elton is gay. We didn’t need to see him and his manager going at it like wild dogs. Just finished watching Kingsman - The Golden Circle. Also very good but like most sequels, not quite as good as the original viewed last night.
Julianne Moore played the villainess and was adequately evil; fairly amusing cameo by Sir Elton John (which I believe led him to pick Taron Egerton to play him in Rocketman).
Lots of action and fighting and Bond like gadgets. If you’re a fan of action flix with a bit of humor and lots of gratuitous violence, these two should be right up your alley.

Since I just watched a pair of movies, I was wondering what posters thought about sequels. Have there been any that you thought were better than the originals? How about “remakes”?
I’d exclude all of the Bond series, as they have evolved through multiple 007’s and the newer ones with the effects and stunts these days are far superior to the Lazenby / Connery entries IMHO.
Obviously, your choices will be based on your own personal taste, so there is no right or wrong answer here.
I’ll go first with a couple of my favourites and my reasoning:
Lethal Weapon 2 - significantly funnier with Joe Pesci as the annoying mob witness; more “buddy cop” than the first, which had a number of “dark” moments and from what I read was originally written even “darker”; Patsy Kensit’s VERY nice “assets”. Original was still very good, but I liked Part 2 better.
Star Wars - Episode VI - Return of the Jedi - still my fav of the entire series. Ewoks, Jabba the Hut, frozen and unfrozen Han Solo, Yoda and “Luke - I am your father”. Good stuff!
C’mon, movie buffs. Let’s see what you think.

Godfather Part II, Aliens over Alien. Space Odyssey, & most of the Bourne movies. I was very close to going with Godfather Part II, but they both were SO good it was too tough for me to pick one over the other. Part III was a HUGE waste of time and talent. The original Alien took too long to develop and the first hour was pretty boring. But after that - WHOA!! Part 2 probably did eclipse 1 based on that. I liked all of the Bourne as well as the Fast and Furious series. Hard to pick a fav out of all of them. I heard they’re doing a Back To The Future remake. No way that’ll be as good as the original. But then again, can’t recall too many remakes being as good or better than the originals. Only one I can think of offhand would be “It”. The film version was WAY better and creepier than the original one produced for television. Tim Curry was almost comical as Pennywise. GO DODGERS!!!

Caught a couple of flix on HBO the last couple of nights. Anna, a KGB / CIA action flick with a cast of no one I had ever seen or heard of other than Helen Mirren, who plays the title characters KGB handler.
Think Alias (the TV show from a few years back with Jennifer Garner) on steroids. Anna is totally bad ass and although the story shifts back and forth in time periods with a number of subplots, I was definitely entertained.
Yesterday, again with a bunch of nobodies other than Ed Sheeran and James Corden (both playing themselves) was REALLY good - but I’m a huge Beatles fan and the entire premise is a struggling musician in England, along with the rest of the world, encounters a 10 second blackout, during which he is hit by a bus while riding his bicycle home from a gig.
When he gets out of the hospital, his manager presents him with a new guitar as his other one was destroyed by the accident. As he is with a group of friends, they ask him to play a song and he chooses the classic Yesterday.
The are all amazed and nobody knows who he is talking about when he refers to Lennon & McCartney. Seems the blackout erased the Beatles and several other things from existence.
He goes on to start playing only Beatles songs at his gigs, all while trying to remember all of their songs and lyrics, records many of them as demos and ends up opening for Sheeran, after which he and his Beatles catalog go Hollywood.
Dude does his own playing and singing and is very good at both. Gets the girl and clear conscience in the end. Enjoyed immensely!

This Samsung is amazing. Three generations of televisions here now. Mom's old big tube Toshiba. It still gets a nice picture. A flat screen Vizio. Then the crown jewel - my beloved Samsung. It's leaps & bounds above the others. I now stay planted in bed, like an 800 lb shut-in, watching TV on the Samsung.
For some reason it too has me craving Panda Express. Bastards.

Right there with you on the TV’s. I have an old 20” tube Panasonic on the basement bar that I bought as a floor model (so you know it was on at least 10 hours a day) back in 1981. Still fires up and has a clear picture with excellent colour. Our main 70” Sony was the last generation of 1080p hi-def and as excellent as it still is, the 52” Sony 4K in our bedroom is even more stunning, Only thing is - it hardly EVER gets any use. The wife goes to bed usually around 11:30 pm and I’m normally up until two or three. I could probably watch the one in bed and it wouldn’t bother her (she can and does sleep through just about anything), I’d rather stay downstairs with the bigger screen. GO DODGERS!!!

Once Upon A Time . . . In Hollywood made its debut last night on Starz and I can’t begin to express how disappointing I found it to be, especially considering all the raves and many deeming it Tarantino’s finest work. It isn’t. Not even close to Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.
DiCaprio and Pitt are both excellent actors and are excellent in their roles. But most of us already know that. And for the first two and a half plus hours, they don’t disappoint.
It’s the story itself that I felt lacked the normal intensity and twists seen in most of QT’s films. The sets and seeing old Hollywood as it was when I first visited there in the early 70’s was a treat as well.
But the “cameos” of SO many big names (Luke Perry, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, who’s scene didn’t even make the final cut, Bruce Dern, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Madsen, Dakota Fanning, Margot Robbie and even Al Pacino) were also just that and made it clear this was Leo and Brad’s movie.
I won’t give away the ending for those who haven’t and still want to see it, but to tell you the truth, I kind of saw it coming. I won’t say how because it might spoil it for others.
Quentin has been one of my favs, right up there with Scorsese in my book. Pulp Fiction is probably one of my top five / deserted island flicks.
And as much as I didn’t like Django, Unchained, I would still put it above OUATIH. The final 15 minutes were brilliant, but to me, not worth the two and a half plus hours leading up to them.
GO DODGERS!!!
