If I read that right, Arenado will be getting paid through 2041. BUT Colorado is on the hook for a lot of it. He might hold out for a bribe to waive his no-trade clause. I would make St. Louis pay that.

Center a trade on Dustin May & Diego Cartaya. Cartaya is already 22 & hit .189 in AA last year.
There would be other pieces, of course. But these would be the biggest pieces. Maybe Vargas.
Yes. I think Moreno is that stupid.

I don't think Belli wanted to be in LA anymore and was happy to go anywhere else. My bet is the Yankees go hard for him.. And the Gnats are expected to go hard for him, but they can't sign both Beli and Showtime, who they are also expected to go hard for. When George was in charge of the Yanks, he no doubt would've tried to lock up both players, but Hal is more level headed. My guess is that Beli will be an Oriole.

I wouldn't expect to give up much for Arenado. The Cardinals have two aging superstars on their team now, with Goldschmidt. Nolan still has $109,000,000 left on his contract. What we give up would depend on how much of that the Cards pay. Or they can go 71-91 again. Without Jordan, make that 63-99. It's always about whose in the running. If say the Phillies or Rangers or Blue Jays or Yankees or Trashtros or VaGiants get in the bidding because they feel they're an impact bat away or need to make a statement to their fan base the price might be a bit more. Give me Arenado 24/7/365 and even Jose Ramirez over Muncy. Then you have guys like Will Smith that has cemented himself as the everyday catcher and it makes guys like our #1 & #3 prospects like Dalton Rushing & Diego Cartaya available. Also, make available someone like Michael Busch the #2 prospect who they're writing in as a 2B/3B and cover it by going with Lux 2B or my choice in Betts. NO, they're both highly touted catchers and we need them to be in the wings for now. Neither is MLB ready but we must have a good replacement for Smitty if he goes down. Instead, I'd deal Cartaya and Andy Pages, our #6. He really seems to be going nowhere fast, as he was good at hitting AA pitching with a .925 OPS, though he spent 2 years at AA. He had a cup of coffee at AAA, going 0 for 3. I see him as dead weight and he'd be a good throw-in in a deal to acquire Arenado. Therefore, a package of Cartaya, Pages and one of the following: Stone, Frasso, Ryan, Knack and an esablished reliever like Shelby Miller? We have one Miller too many. IN addition, the Cards could throw in a minor league position player

Dodgers Linked To Cardinals Star Nolan Arenado In Possible Offseason Blockbuster Trade
The Dodgers could be interested in landing one of the Cardinals' biggest stars PATRICK MCAVOYOCT 25, 2023
It sounds like teams still have an interest in landing one of the St. Louis Cardinals' biggest stars.
St. Louis mightily struggled this season leading the team to be one of the biggest sellers ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline. While the Cardinals did give up a lot, they could have given up more and there was plenty of interest around the league for third baseman Nolan Arenado and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
The Cardinals ended up hanging on to both of the stars and have made no indication that either will be moved this offseason but the Los Angeles Dodgers could end up having interest in Arenado, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.
"The Dodgers will pull off a major trade by parting with some of their more promising prospects, Gonzalez said. "It's their preferred route, rather than overspending in free agency. They held off on it this last offseason, but capitalizing on some of their prospect capital makes a lot of sense right now. The Dodgers have what feels close to a surplus of young starters ready to break into the big leagues at the moment and could use some of that for either a more established starting pitcher or some help on offense or both.
"They also have two premier catching prospects in Diego Cartaya and Dalton Rushing, both of whom are blocked by Will Smith. Vargas and Michael Bush, without set positions on a major league infield, would also intrigue other teams. Perhaps they rekindle trade talks with the St. Louis Cardinals for Nolan Arenado."
There were rumors around the trade deadline about the Dodgers' interest in Arenado but a deal didn't come to fruition. At this point, a deal shouldn't be considered likely at all. The Cardinals have made it sound like both Arenado and Goldschmidt will be sticking around for the long haul. Plus, both of the stars have said they want to remain in St. Louis. They both have no-trade clauses in their contracts as well which would make a deal difficult.
While there are sure to be plenty of rumors, it would be very surprising if Arenado is not the Cardinals' starting third baseman on Opening Day in 2024.

Why not?

I think Moreno is that stupid. Kasten is a Rhodes scholar compared to Moreno. How is it a team can have the 2 best players in the game and not even reach .500? Angel fans won't like that Trout is traded away, but he deserves better than to go home every October and neither will they like it that Showtime walks but what about pitching? Reid Detmers is good, but who'll take Showtime's place in the rotation in '24? I'd hate to lose Dustin, but 2 major surgeries in 3 years has left him behind and his spot needs to be filled now. If he's an Angel, I wish him the best.

I think you mean that you'd hold onto Rushing but trade Cartaya being that Will Smith could need a fill- in in case of an injury or if he chases the dollar in free agency after 2025. If so, fair. I agree with the previous article that if they make a play for Arenado a couple of arms and maybe not Cartaya will go because they have Willson Contreras under contract and a couple of young guys on the active roster. 2024 33 St. Louis Cardinals $35,000,000 $5M paid by Colorado Rockies 2025 34 St. Louis Cardinals $32,000,000 $5M paid by Colorado Rockies 2026 35 St. Louis Cardinals $27,000,000 $5M paid by Colorado Rockies 2027 36 St. Louis Cardinals $15,000,000 Added prior to 2021 season That's a good contract that ends at the right time. With the Rockies paying it's $30M/ $27M/ $22M/ $15M

Fraudy as jr. calls him is already talking that they shouldn't "Overreact" to another end of season ouster. I hope he really doesn't mean that and just get a guy or two and run it back. Anyway, in an alternate universe it'd be nice to see: RF Betts 1B Freeman 3B Arenado DH Ohtani C Smith CF Outman SS Rosario 2B Lux LF Kike/Heyward

If he's an Angel, I wish him the best. 1 - The Angels don't have fans. They have front-running voyeurs. They haven't had a lot to run in front of the last several years. They can follow Mike up the 405 freeway to Dodger Stadium. That's a selling point to Mike in waiving his no-trade clause. He would basically be staying with the same base. If Ohtani declares for free agency, Mike should secretly demand a trade. He's holding all the cards. 2 - I agree completely about May & am not counting on anything from him moving forward. He'll be one of those 'if only' guys.

With the Rockies paying it's $30M/ $27M/ $22M/ $15M Don't forget the Cardinals' share. That would be my demand in any deal involving Arenado. St. Louis is either a city of jackasses, or they're bluffing that they think they can rebuild around Goldschmidt & Arenado. They need to strip down & start all over again. How much they contribute depends on what we give up. Take a fair number like 5 million though. They would be saving WAY more than that. The Dodgers would be getting compensated to the tune of 10 million dollars a year. Half of that from a divisional 'rival.' Muncy earns a BASE of $10,000,000 next year. He got some incentives for plate appearances. He would make for good trade fodder. A guy with 36 homeruns, on a one year contract.
