Yamamoto looks like the better bet.

I"m thinking we should stick with JD Martinez. He really did a great job in the second half. Showtime is tempting, but he won't be able to pitch for another year, though in the meantime, the docs said he could hit and he'd still be healing from TJ surgery. JD is option #1 for me. I was thinking in case they want to push Muncy on us as the DH. Muncy should be chalked up as a W for where the team was at that time and place. It's time to move from him! And, the more I think of it the more I rather them get a couple of starting pitchers and another bat than just Ohtani. The starters are out there but I don't see the bat other than Cody Bellinger. Went looking for hitters and didn't see anything out there in the free agent market other than Bellinger and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. this year. There's always trying to convince the Guardians since it seems like they'll tank again to trade Jose Ramirez.

If his problem here was equal parts the Dodgers' philosophy, & Bellinger unwilling to adjust to his new physical limitations, what happens if we give him a multiyear contract with a boatload of money?

Cody would NEVER agree to it, but 5 years & a guaranteed $50,000,000. It would include various incentives. So much for playing in 100 games. 125 games. 150 games. He can earn another $50,000,000 over the course of the deal. Double his base. The motivation for him is he can opt out after the second year. Like JD Drew. Roberts would have to grow a backbone & platoon Cody if he hits like shit.

Freidman would have to agree Cody is hitting like shit too.

I don't think Belli wanted to be in LA anymore and was happy to go anywhere else. My bet is the Yankees go hard for him..

Yeah, this Bellinger topic is not as clear as it should be even with a good year. A scenario where they continue to push Muncy on us and retain him as a DH is if they explore a Nolan Arenado trade and at the very least Jose Ramirez.

Lance Lynn: “At least he’s durable, though. That alone might be worth $18 million to the Dodgers next season, unless they are confident Kershaw will return and/or they know they can land some multiple-pitcher combination of Aaron Nola, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Sonny Gray and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in free agency. Verdict: Los Angeles exercises the club option” Per Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report Wish I could get 18 million dollars for sucking. Imagine going to the park every fifth day knowing that they’re going to need to score at least a half dozen runs to have a chance at a W each and every time Lynn starts. No pressure there, I’m sure. It’ll be JUST like October. Only every five days. This is one they should pass on - something tells me they won’t. GO DODGERS!!!

The Cardinals have two aging superstars on their team now, with Goldschmidt. Nolan still has $109,000,000 left on his contract. What we give up would depend on how much of that the Cards pay. Or they can go 71-91 again. Without Jordan, make that 63-99.

If say the Phillies or Rangers or Blue Jays or Yankees or Trashtros or VaGiants get in the bidding because they feel they're an impact bat away or need to make a statement to their fan base the price might be a bit more. Give me Arenado 24/7/365 and even Jose Ramirez over Muncy. Then you have guys like Will Smith that has cemented himself as the everyday catcher and it makes guys like our #1 & #3 prospects like Dalton Rushing & Diego Cartaya available. Also, make available someone like Michael Busch the #2 prospect who they're writing in as a 2B/3B and cover it by going with Lux 2B or my choice in Betts.

Starting rotation - Kershaw - L Buehler - R Montgomery - L Miller - R Pepiot - R Lugo - R Depth - Sheehan - R Stone - R May is due back in August. Gonsolin should miss the entire 2024 season. We might need another southpaw in the mix. Position players - C - Smith / Gomes 1B - Freeman 2B - Rosario (Betts is always a wild card here too.) 3B - Candelario? Vargas? SS - Lux (or reverse Rosario & Lux.) LF - Taylor (We would have to eat a lot of salary to get rid of him.) CF - Outman RF - Betts & Heyward DH - Martinez Depth Kike Rojas (5.75 million in 2024.) I'll leave the bullpen alone because that seems to be something Friedman cobbles together last. Phillips is the only untouchable. I merely suggested Shelby Miller too. DW21 would know better than any of us about prospects who might be ready to make the leap. This is a very solid team. Batting order (Although that always gets juggled.) - Betts - R Lux? - L Freeman - L Martinez - R Smith - R Candelario - S Outman - L Heyward - L Rosario - R If a youngster comes through, we would have an affordable veteran to market in trade. Muncy has had some solid years in a Dodger unform. Way more than we could have expected. He's also had some years that were putrid. (He slashed .226 / .312 / .398 the last month of this past regular season. 182 / .250 / .182 in the playoffs.). The Dodgers have a team option on him for next year. I'd suggest exercising that & trading him. I'll use nono's format: Starting rotation: 1. Blake Snell/ Jordan Montgomery- L 2. Buehler- R 3. Bob Miller- R 4. Yoshinobu Yamamoto/Sonny Gray- R 5- 6. Pepiot- R/ Yarbrough- L Depth: 7. Sheehan - R 8. Stone - R 9. Shota Imanaga- L (will be posted) 10. Hyun Jin Ryu/ James Paxton/ Alex Wood/ Martin Perez- L (alternatives to #5- 6 & #9) *I am not relying one bit on May and Gonsolin see ya when I see ya. Position players - 1. Betts RF 2. Freeman 1B 3. Nolan Arenado/Jose Ramirez 3B 4. Outman CF 5. JD Martinez DH 6. Smith C 7. Lux 2B 8. Rosario SS 9. Kike LF Depth: Yan Gomes C Heyward OF Rojas Inf UT Just like nono I'll leave the bullpen alone but there are many able arms like Hader, Chapman, Robertson etc. In my scenario Kike and Taylor are one and the same though Kike is a better outfielder and Rojas is a better infielder. There has to be a taker with just 2 years left on Taylor's deal. Starting free agent arms abound and the bench is solid with Gomes as the backup catcher, Rojas as the utility infielder who is able to play all infield spots and even first base I suppose, Heyward would be the cheapest left handed outfield option they can get that has familiarity with the team and played RF & CF last year and can I will assume LF too if needed. The one little pebble in the road in my scenario is that all signs point to them LOVING their Muncy so I guess it would have to be he or JD in which case I can see them rolling with Muncy at DH since they can just pick up his one year option for $10 million. Then they can go R- batting 3rd/ L- DH batting 4th/ R- batting 5th. In that version the lineup can look like this: 1. Betts RF 2. Freeman 1B 3. Nolan Arenado/Jose Ramirez 3B 4. Muncy DH 5. Smith C 6. Outman CF 7. Rosario SS 8. Lux 2B 9. Kike LF
