Why waste time?

What to do about third base? An announcer in the last series commented on Justin Turner's decreased bat speed. Justin hit .154 in that series. In fact, in his last four postseason series Turner is 6-47 / .128-1-1. That's covering 14 games. Small sample size? It was just a couple years ago Ginger was our resident Mr. Clutch. Justin has a one year option left on his contract. He either gets picked up again & collects $16,000,000 or the Dodgers buy him out for $2,000,000. He had an extended hot streak during the latter part of this past season. But his beginning of the season was frightening. That hot streak obviously didn't carry over to the playoffs. He'll be 38 next year.
In-house candidates to replace him are the ever present Edwin Rios. He only played in 27 games with the Dodgers this year. His line was .244-7-17 / .293 / .500 in 92 plate appearances. 36 strikeouts used to be alarming. Not nowadays though. He hit .259-9-39 / .339 / .492 w/ 66 K's in 218 minor league plate appearances. He'll be 29 next April. The clock is ticking on an oft-injured player.
Miguel Vargas has been the Dodgers' top minor league position player two years running. He's really listed as a first baseman / leftfielder. We know the former ain't happening with Freeman here. His listing on the Dodgers' depth chart includes third base. He hit .170-1-8 / .200 / .255 in 50 plate appearances with the Dodgers. He struck out 13 times. In the minors he hit .304-17-82 / .404 / .511 in 520 plate appearances. 71 walks. 76 strikeouts. That was at AAA. The year before he hit .319-23-76 / .380 / .526 w/ 45 walks & 89 K's in 542 plate appearances at AA. He won't turn 23 until next November.
Or we can go with Max Muncy. He's getting paid anyway.
I would like to see Turner leave the game with his dignity intact. His performance is slipping. Not to an egregious degree. Just enough to notice.
I don't know who might be available via free agency.

I say buy JT out. He's definitely past his prime. Doubt they do that though. Much like Robert's ain't going anywhere. Turner will likely finish that last year in LA.
Bellinger surely is on his way out. Dude needs a change of scenery or something. Will miss the defense but he's got zip on offense.
Trea is gone. No way he's gets paid what the Mets or someone else is gonna give him. Maybe if his defense wasn't terrible this postseason, but even though they could empty the bank for him, they aren't competing with the Mets or some other east coast team.
Kimbrel is GONE. Nothing more to say.
Need a new starting pitcher IMO. Hard to believe Heaney, Gonsolin and Anderson are gonna be able to reproduce this last season again next year. I wouldn't be gambling on it. Ought to have plenty of money to get whoever they want this off-season.
Maybe thet don't spend shit next year, have a team of nobody's, finish by the skin of their teeth getting in as a wildcard team 15 or 20 games out, and then have enough in the tank to do something in the playoffs. This breaking records winning the division bullshit means nothing if you keep losing in the playoffs...

It doesn’t matter who they let go, sign or re-sign. This team could sign Harper, Trout, Judge, Ohtani and pitchers Verlander, deGrom and Alcántra and we’d still have the albatross of Daisy and Fraudman calling the shots.
And that is a combination we’re ALL too familiar with that hasn’t worked for the better part of a decade.
Sure - they pulled off a WS in 2020 and I don’t discount that like some of the so called experts do.
But we did play most of our games against a fairly week division and although it took us an extra one game round to get to Arlington, it was only after less than half the number of games we would have played in a regular season.
And if the Tampa Bay manager doesn’t pull a “Daisy” by yanking a pitcher that was TRULY dominating us, we might not even have that title.
The Dodgers cannot and WILL NOT with the professor and Maryann and until this ownership realizes that, we fans will have to settle and be content with the “participation” trophies they continue to amass.
GO DODGERS!!!

Our 3B problem could be solved if only we could get this guy out of Japan! He's a 5 tool player yet is only 22 years old! You all know I'm adamant about home grown scouting and development but who'll be at third next year? Justin has had it and Mad Max and Barnes are adequate at best. Fingers crossed! www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=muraka000mun

We've seen a lot of Japanese stars fail.

I read a former GM listed Atlanta as Trea Turner's most likely landing spot. Then I read that former GM was Jim Bowden.
Eh...

You know if Bowden is right for one of the few times in his career, Dansby Swanson would be available. The Dodgers & Braves would basically be trading shortstops. While not as talented as Trea Turner, he's still not half bad & would sign for signifantly less. Less years too.
We could also look at Joc Pederson again. He could probably be had on a one year contract. He had 23 homers & 70 RBI's this past season. Hit .274.
If Rios can stay in one piece, he & Vargas could platoon at third base. I know Roberts would platoon them anyway. Andy said so. Vargas can also play leftfield.
Thompson is right-handed, but his splits pretty much make him a lefty. Which means he could be the starter in center. I'll list him as lefthanded for simplicity.
Position players would be...
C
Smith - R Barnes - R
1B
Freeman - L Muncy - L Rios - L
2B
Lux - L Taylor - R Muncy - L
3B
Rios - L Vargas - R Muncy - L
SS
Swanson - R Taylor - R Lux - L
LF
Vargas - R Pederson - L Taylor - R Thompson - L
CF
Thompson - L Betts - R Taylor - R
RF
Betts - R Pederson - L Thompson - L
There's that versatility.
It doesn't look particularly scary. But it didn't this season either. Muncy hit .196. Bellinger hit .210. Combined they tied Ted Williams' 1941 season. It was a season in hell for Taylor.

You forgot Betts at 2B - you KNOW Daisy is going to continue to give him time there whether it’s good for the team or not. Daisy’s gonna Daisy. GO DODGERS!!!

I absolutely LOVE this idea! Mad Max in RF; or maybe he could take over for the soon departed Bells in CF.
After all - they both shared very eerily similar BA’s in 2022. Between him and CT, we could count on at least one hit every five AB’s from the position.
That’s pretty good, right? Add Barnes into the picture and there’s a good 10 - 12 out of 27 outs every night.
In an EXPLOSIVE offense like ours (or at least we have been told), those guys fit the mold to a T.
GO DODGERS!!!

Why don't we just move on from Muncy. I can't think of anyone that gets more bang for less buck. Geez, $13 million or whatever it is for empty home runs in runaway games. Guy can't play permanently anywhere and doesn't hit enough as a DH. Social media was wetting the sheets the other day about him hitting the walk off homer in the 18th vs the Sox in the World Series. What has he done since other than suck every post- season.

Anyway, yes, bring Jacques back and swap him with Muncy and we have something going at DH. I'd be totally stoked with Joc and Correa.
