The Angels just blew a game in Cleveland. Bobby Valentine does color commentary? He's wearing a bright pink suit, with a tuxedo shirt & bowtie. Yikes!

Ohtani is batting .302-39-81 right now. In today's game, he's received two intentional walks. If Drury & or Trout make it back, Shohei has a legitimate shot at 50 homers.
He's 9-5 w/ a 3.43 ERA & 1.07 WHIP. 156 K's in 120.2 innings.
We'll probably never know how good a fielder he could have been. But I've seen him make some really quick snatches on balls hit up the middle.

Angels getting lit up by the Braves. 11-4 in the seventh inning.
They're not giving Ohtani anything to hit. Why should they? He has two singles though. Now batting .307.

He’s certainly a once in a lifetime player, that’s for sure. But is he worth $60 mil annually to the Dodgers, a team that is certainly in need of more than one arm and one bat? Will Arte blow is wad again like he did on Pujols? We all know how that worked out. I’m thinking he’s going to Seattle. They have a huge Asian fan base and are more likely to see the postseason than the Angles, who can never seem to put it all together when they need to. I look for them to fall out of the race within the next few weeks like they always seem to around this time. GO DODGERS!!!

Angles already proving they’re not ready for “better” competition, getting spanked again today by the Bravos, 12 - 5.
By the time Trout and possibly Rendon come back, it may be too late and that very likely means adios, Oh!
GO DODGERS!!!

Angles take a 3 - 2 lead into the ninth and turn it into an 8 - 3 deficit against the pesky Gnats.
Starting to look like a two team race in the west. Seven of our last ten are against SF.
GO DODGERS!!!

MLB Rumors: Cubs-Ohtani m
atch, Mike Trout trade hurdles, Yankees copying Braves
Story by Zach Pressnell • 17h
MLB rumors: What stands in the way of a hypothetical Mike Trout trade?
This lede sounds absolutely ridiculous at first glance — but stick with me on this.
During this season, the Los Angeles Angels explored Shohei Ohtani trade options but ultimately decided to hold onto him. This offseason could be the beginning of a dark, dark time in the Angels organization. There's potential that Ohtani, Lucas Giolito, Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk, among others, could walk in free agency. This would leave them with one Top 100 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and a depleted MLB roster.
With Mike Trout signed for the next seven seasons and at age 31, his trade value will slowly begin to go down as the days go by. So, should the Angels explore trading him? What is stopping them?
Well, there are a few things actually. The first one is Trout himself. He has a full no-trade clause, meaning he could shut down any deal without question.
Then, if he is willing to be moved, problems arise with his age, injury history, and his massive contract. How much would a team be willing to give up for a player they're going to owe over $200 million to, who hasn't played 130+ games in a year since 2019?
Now, mind you, Trout is still one of the best players in the game and in the history of the game, when he's healthy. When he's on the field, not many teams would mind paying him his full contract. The trade is highly unlikely at this point, but it's still fun to think about.
MLB rumors: Chicago Cubs could emerge as potential sleepers in Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes
This winter, Shohei Ohtani may be at the center of the biggest free agency decision since Lebron James announced his decision to play in Miami over a decade ago. LeBron James' decision captivated the sports world and Ohtani is likely to do the same, inking his name to a huge contract.
There are a ton of teams being tied to Ohtani, with nearly every team making a sales pitch for him one way or another. But the team that nobody seems to be talking about, that could make a ton of sense, is the Chicago Cubs.
ESPN's Bradford Doolittle broke down the unbelievable value of Ohtani in free agency as a two-way superstar. In doing so, he also mentioned the contenders to sign the current Angel in free agency, listing the Cubs as a sleeper in the mix.
One thing of note with the Cubs is their current payroll, where nobody is being paid over $20 million this season, besides Marcus Stroman at $25 million.
This could be seen as a plus and a minus for Chicago. One side is that it means that the Cubs have the money to spend. They're a big market team and after the trade deadline this year, they appear ready to win now. But on the other hand, the lack of spending could mean that Chicago isn't willing to spend the money it would take for Ohtani. But if they are, Ohtani would likely consider Chicago as a destination.
Don't sleep on the idea of Ohtani signing with the Cubs.

Angels' Mike Trout: Headed back to IL Rotowire 9 HRS AGO The Angels will place Trout (wrist) back on the injured list Thursday, Greg Beacham of The Associated Press reports.
Trout initially landed on the injured list in early July due to a hamate bone fracture in his left wrist and was activated Tuesday. The 32-year-old outfielder then sat out both games of Wednesday's doubleheader due to lingering soreness in his wrist and will now find himself back on the IL. General manager Perry Minasian said Trout will be completely shut down for the next 10 days but Minasian is hopeful that Trout will be able to return before the end of the season. However, the Angels may not be in a rush to bring him back if they are eliminated from playoff contention while Trout is out.

Mike Trout expecting conversations with Angels about future of team
Story by Lauren Campbell, masslive.com •

The Angels have a lot of questions going into the offseason and it’s unclear what the team will look like when the 2024 MLB season rolls around.
Some of those questions revolve around their two biggest stars: Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani is set to become a free agent in the offseason. Despite his UCL tear, his market is still expected to be robust, though it’s unclear just how much his injury will change the look of his contract. Trout, on the other hand, is under contract through the 2030 season after signing a record-breaking contract deal in 2019. But the Angels have to decide what direction they want to take the franchise, and the three-time American League MVP is expecting to have those kinds of conversations this winter.
“When it’s brought up in the offseason, you’ve obviously got to talk about it, and think about it,” Trout told reporters, per The Orange County Register’s Jeff Fletcher. “I haven’t thought about it yet. There are going to be some conversations in the winter, for sure. Just to see the direction of everything and what the plan is.”
Trout sidestepped a question about a potential trade, telling reporters he wasn’t going to comment on that. He also mentioned he was surprised to see the Angels place a slew of players on waivers — including those they acquired at the trade deadline. . The Angels could look different next year, or they could continue to decide to try and build around Trout. It hasn’t brought them much success in the past, so it will be interesting to see which direction they end up going when the offseason rolls around.

www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/troutmi01.shtmlI would say this is impossible. Surely Moreno wouldn't let the Dodgers have Trout. But then he let us have Howie Kendrick for Andrew Heaney. How smart was that? Mike will be 32 the beginning of next season. Till August 7th. He's been hurt a lot the last few seasons. But he still hit 40 homeruns in just 119 games last year. What we could offer would be dependent on how much salary Moreno wants the Dodgers to take on. He must know he's going to have to kick in something. As for Mike - surely he doesn't want to finish out his career with a clown show. He would still be in the same market. He has full no-trade protection. Does the greatest player of his generation want to be Ernie Banks? This is better than Ohtani. Shohei is going to command more money & years. He's out next year as a pitcher. When he DOES pitch, you risk losing two players.

Also, Ohtani is a full-time DH. Obviously, Trout plays the field.

Angels' Mike Trout: Intends to play again this season Rotowire 21 HRS AGO Trout had additional tests on his injured left wrist Sunday that revealed no structural damage, and he indicated that he still plans to return this season, MLB.com reports.
Trout missed 38 games due to a fractured left hamate bone before he was activated from the injured list Aug. 22. He was able to play in only one contest before going back on the IL, and he's since acknowledged that he returned too soon, as pain was still affecting his swing. Despite the fact that the Angels have fallen out of playoff contention, Trout indicated that he expects to return before the end of the campaign, though the organization will also have a say in that matter. Since testing Sunday revealed no structural damage, pain tolerance will be the main factor determining when Trout can start swinging a bat again.

Take the rest of this lost season off, let that hand heal COMPLETELY (not 80 - 90% - we know you’re a tough dude, but why risk further or re-injury for a team that is going NOWHERE in October?). I think he hurts his own trade value if this return doesn’t go as he hopes it will. GO DODGERS!!!

Angels' Mike Trout: Joining team for road trip Rotowire SEP 18, 2023 Trout (wrist) will join the Angels' for their six-game road trip this week and will start swinging the bat soon, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
Angels manager Phil Nevin said earlier this month that Trout had resumed holding the bat and taking dry swings, and with the 11-time All-Star apparently having suffered no setbacks while doing so, he's poised to take the next step forward in his rehab by hitting off a tee and eventually taking batting practice. Trout doesn't look like he'll have enough time to head out on a rehab assignment before the minor-league season comes to a close, but he should still have the opportunity to test the health of his fractured left wrist by facing off against a pitching machine or playing in simulated games. Even though the Angels are out of playoff contention, the club is still keeping the door open for Trout to return from the 10-day injured list before the season ends.
