I’ve been reading along with the usual bulldog & TD back and forth and both have made and justified their points as usual. Betts may very well be the “missing link” in our title hopes. But I’m skeptical, at best that his impact will be that substantial. We were probably going to win the division again, with or without him. His .200 postseason average does very little to lead me personally to believe he’ll be the “difference maker”. And while our entire offense has been M.I.A. the last three postseasons, we lost more games on the mound than at the plate, none more apparent than last year against the Nats. And that is still something they have yet to address. We lost both Ryu and Maeda and even with them, we still don’t match up to the likes of Scherzer, Strasburg, Sanchez, Corbin and company. We have one ace (Buehler) compared to their three or four.
Kershaw may never get over his October woes, especially after those two bombs last year. Price has never been much more than a number three. Urias? Is he a starter? A long reliever? A short power reliever? Will LA ever make a decision on him? May / Goose / Stripling? All very young and very unproven. And that’s just the starters. Our pen has been a revolving door of no names and our closer needs at least a three run lead to get three outs without blowing the save.On paper we will score a lot of runs and win 100 + games. But they all go out the pooper come October and without pitching, we’re looking at another long, cold disappointing winter. Like I said before - glass half empty . . . GO DODGERS!!! Our starters' ERA was 3.11 last season, and the Nats' was 3.53. This season, you never know. I have confidence in our kids. May and Goose might fill out the rotation, with Gaterol and Gray waiting in the wings. And you never know, the Nats' aces might have an off-season or have injuries. But I also worry about Kershaw. We all know he's well past his prime, though still a solid #2 in the rotation. But serving up those homers on back to back pitches might have ruined his confidence, which I know he's worked on all spring and has beat himself up about. Of course, Kelly and Roberts didnt' help. And as for our bullpen, it had a 3.78 ERA, 4th in the bigs and 1st in the NL. And the Nats', believe it or not, were dead last in reliever ERA! You can bet their fans are worried about their bullpen. It just seems like our bullpen is lousy cos this is the era of the juiced up balls and bats and bringing in the fences. And Jansen is in Kershaw's boat. If there's one thing the Dodgers have always been known for at least since the early 50s is great rotations, and this coming season will be no exception. I'm reading jr's post not concerned about the Nationals specifically this season but more so a comparison of what a beast rotation should look like. Because frankly the only reason they won was because of their starters and starters relieving.

If there's one thing the Dodgers have always been known for at least since the early 50s is great rotations, and this coming season will be no exception. Again, it all looks great on paper. But in a short series, as we all witnessed, the Nats were not dependent so much on their pen and were able to utilize pretty much those four throughout their World Series run. NO WAY we get that out of our starters, as it is fairly likely both May & Goose (if either / both are even part of our starting five) will be on pitch counts and Daisy never saw a six or seven inning shut out he wouldn’t pull a starter from. That leads to excessive and over use of the pen and I think we all saw that against the Asterisks and Dread Lox. Maeda had pitched well but had nothing left in the tank by the end of both series. And neither did most of the rest of them, cheating notwithstanding. Maybe you’re right and the Nats end up paying the piper this year for last years title. But I’m not counting on it and I’d take those four guys over ours or any other teams come October as they have already proven pitching still rules in MLB. GO DODGERS!!! I commented on your previous post. I hadn't seen this one. Pretty funny, Asterisks and Dread Lox.

@jessesanchezmlb
Source: #Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez won his arbitration case and will make $4M in 2020. He was represented by Kelvin Nova, Jeff Fannell and his associate Kap Misir.
--------------- Is that a good number for the type of production and role that he might play?

Seems about right by today’s market and standards. He certainly had his issues with far too many moon shots in critical situations last year, but also had games where he was unhittable. If we can get more the the later as opposed to bleacher souvenirs, he might end up the bargain of the year. GO DODGERS!!!

I’ll take credit for the Lox, but the Asterisks credit goes to bulldog and the t-shirt he purchased and posted a photo of earlier in this thread And is it just me? Or does Betts look like he’d rather be anywhere on earth other than in LA? Body language speaks tons and I think the chances of him signing an extension in LA are about as good as Miami winning the Super Bowl next year. He’s pretty much making it clear that he’ll be a mercenary free agent and go where the money and years are the most beneficial to Mookie. GO DODGERS!!!

Second time I've heard someone say he looked bummed. Didn't see that myself. Dudes laid back and didn't look like he didn't wanna be there IMO. First time he's been traded, may have felt a little awkward but doubt there's anymore to it than that...

I can't believe some of you are still worried about Kershaw! Now that the reason for the playoff crap has come out you're still in here worried about him. He's still plenty good guys. Smh...

Kershaw's arm isn't what it used to be for sure. It's suffered wear and tear since high school. Dr Mike Marshall explains that on his website, drmikemarshall.com and he knows what he's talking about, having a doctorate in kinesiology. Kershaw is a good mlb starter, no longer great. Coughing up those two homers on consecutive pitches has no doubt taken a big toll on his confidence and you can be sure he's beat himself up about it all winter. Though Roberts deserves most of the blame, Kershaw should've known how to pitch to both Rendon and Soto. He's reinventing himself and it'll be interersting how he does in '20.

Why would that mean he gets cut? If the got to arbitration The arbitartor will rule on what he gets paid. End of story. Have you heard about the arbitration process? I've heard that the person representing the team dissects the player in order to have the arbitrator rule in the team's favor. $500K is nothing for the team. I'm positive Baez is not happy about being given the run around over 500K. I'm positive.
Yes, I understand the arbitration process perfectly. And the team didn't win - Baez won his case.
So much for that conspiracy theory....

Sure the team will win a lot and score a lot and there is still time to get that ace, maybe, but these questions need to be addressed because the Yankees look really good and I don't think it would be a cake walk.
I don't need to acknowledge any points because almost all of them are complete nonsense. Very simply - this is the best Dodger team in the history of the franchise. I agree it guarantees nothing in baseball. But there is no chance I would be thinking anything negative at this point because we are LOADED top to bottom. And that goes for starting pitching too. Buehler, Kershaw, Price, Wood, Urias, May, Gonsolin, Stripling. No doubt we will have 5 really good ones from this group.
Enjoy the season guys. Hope we have a few short losing streaks that you can really get off on. You guys just love the negativity, even while the rest of the baseball world disagrees with you. Absolutely pathetic, I will not let you guys ruin it for me.

Agree. Guy looked to me like he was happy to be there. Huge smiles usually mean the opposite of looking "bummed". Both of them.
What's happening here is pure lunacy.

I'm sure Baez feels better about winning than losing. Still an inconvenience over $500K.

It's okay to disagree bulldog. No need for the negativity, pathetic, and lunacy remarks to any of us. It doesn't help with anything. Not with discussion, not with disagreeing, not with anything.

I have to say that simply because we point out the “negatives” (and there certainly ARE more than a few), doesn’t make us any less fans than you, dog. You are a 100% positive light on this board and that’s okay with me. Glass half full -vs- my glass half empty. I have no doubt whatsoever this team is stacked from top to bottom with bats and gloves secondary to none. I don’t know if I’d consider them the “best” Dodger team ever. I’m still a bit sentimental to those mid-to-late 70’s guys of Cey, Russell, Lopes & Garvey. But another division title is just that and we’ve seen what happens to pretty much this exact same team come October. Mookie Betts and his .200 postseason average isn’t going to change that if the rest of our bats perform like they have the last three years. Hopefully those experiences will allow guys like Bells and Seager and the rest of the .200 gang to learn and grow and adjust their swings to fit the situations they are in instead of aiming for the fences every damn time they come to the plate. Davey is still a huge postseason question mark and he, too needs to learn from his mistakes. So far, in three straight postseasons, he has not. I think the biggest question mark is going to be our pitching. We’ve got one ace in Buehler but after that? Goose, Strip and May ALL show great potential - but can they live up to the hype and will any / all of them be available come October with the pitch counts all three are very likely to be on? Gray, Price and Kersh will probably all get us 10 - 15 wins each in the regular season if they stay healthy, but do any of the three of them match up with what the Nats or Yankees can counter with? I’m just being realistic here - not so much critical. The new guy we got that was injured but throws 100 mph - we had / have a couple of those guys already in Baez and Urias. Neither has done much in October. And our closer committee of Kelly and Jansen - not sure there’s much to say there. Despite all of this, the Dodgers are still and always will be my team. If they go 60 - 102, I’ll still fly their flag. If they win 100+ and falter again in late October, at least I can say we made it there again unlike the other 28 teams watching from home. I have held off getting my flying ball tattoo reinked until they win it all again. I’m CERTAINLY hoping 2020 is the year! GO DODGERS!!!
