Jurassic World - Dominion opened last night and is sure to knock Maverick from the top spot on the earnings chart this weekend.
But I have to honestly say that I preferred the latest Top Gun miles above (see what I did there?) the final installment of the dinosaur six pack.
That’s not to say that this finale was not entertaining - it was.
But it definitely lacked the sheer spectacle of seeing these creatures digitally created in the first Jurassic Park or the excitement and terror of the fourth film and first Jurassic World.
There were new and a couple of REALLY nasty new dinosaurs and the storyline was enjoyable, with Jeff Goldblum’s Malcolm his usual sarcastic self and several amusing lines.
There were also a few unexpected “jump out of your seat” moments towards the end. The story did seem to “wrap” up nicely and it appears this will be the final chapter.
But I expected more exposure and incidents with humans now living in a world where dinosaurs were once again a part of.
The scene in the original trailer and commercial for the movie where a T-Rex invades a drive-in movie theater is nowhere to be found in the nearly three hour release.
And there are only a couple of actual human / dinosaur encounters shown very early in the film as most of the dinos have been moved and placed on, you guessed it, another island where the “bad guys” are supposedly studying and using them and their genetics to end diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, Lou Gerhig’s, etc.
Instead, they are using the knowledge for bad in an attempt to destroy the worlds grain and crops while forcing farms to buy and use THEIR specially developed and indestructible seeds.
Let’s just say locusts the size of an average house cat come into play and leave it at that.
There’s also the backstory of the original park developer’s granddaughter, how she came to be in existence and how her genetic makeup could eradicate all diseases as well as the locust swarms.
Sam Neill and Laura Dern return as do World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Harper, all very good in their roles.
The D-Box seats were active throughout most of the the film and as usual added to the enjoyment level.
I give it a solid ⚾️⚾️⚾️.
GO DODGERS!!!
