I think about Get Smart! That show was just too creative and funny! When you've seen an episode 12 times and still laff, that's comic genius! And those crazy devices like the shoe phone! Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon) said in an interview a few years ago that the CIA contacted the show's producers to try to get those devices made for real and now, five decades later, we have shoe phones, watch phones, compact phones, but we still dont have a silver dollar that serve as a bugging device anywhere in the world... yet! The comedy was so original, and no real violence. There were gun fights alright, but never any blood. One shot and the person was dead. And the only other violence was fist fights. What contrast to the tasteless sitcoms of today!

In the time when TV shows like; Danger Man, The Avengers, The Saint and James Bond were running wild, a brilliant secret agent satire from insane genius minds of Buck Henry and Mel Brooks come out of the wood works, with the great Don Adams and this sitcom blows away what passes for comedy today.

TV Shows, Radio Programs and Movies of the Past to the Present up for discussion.. TV shows back then were pretty darn good. Rin Tin Tin, The Wonderful World of Disney, Ed Sullivan, The Jackie Gleason Show, The Tonight Show with Steve Allen (human teabag-lol), The Twilight Zone.... The Golden Age of TV - there will never be another like it, as there is so much alternative media - 1000 channels - to occupy one's mind. Looking back on some of those shows, the overall value was truly ground breaking and that was especially so, of the "The Twilight Zone" (which, I never missed on channel 2) as Rod Serling was an absolute revolutionary genius, and if any one doubts that, just watch one episode of that show and pay attention to dialog. The cutting edge shows that re-defined TV like; "One Step Beyond", which was the progenitor of the "Twilight Zone" and "Tales of Tomorrow" the forerunner of this genre along with "Alfred Hitchcock Present", "Star Trek" (that launched a industry), the high quality of "Outer-Limits", and "Thriller - with Boris Karloff" featured some of the most brilliant, crisp writing, acting and meaningful dialogue that TV land has ever known, all came equipped with mini-morality and life lessons built into most of those episodes, that made people really think about what was being said. Jackie Gleason the original "Life of Riley" was an enigma of acting, with just about everything he did was improvised and he pulled it off brilliantly how he changed in and out of characters with ease; "The poor soul" , "Joe the Bartender" "Reginald Van Gleason". The immortal "The Honeymooners" - just one of Jackie's Opus(s) but what can you say about that show, over the years I've seen it hundred times, I know all the jokes and I still laugh at the same points Steve Allen was all over TV back in then as I remember, with his own show which had my boy Elvis singing to a Hound Dog and the panel shows "What's my Line" "I've Got a Secret" etc.. While everyone, it seemed, tuned into Ed Sullivan "The Toast of the Town" every Sunday night with all of to those musical and featured comedy talent acts on that show was tremendous, along with some of the recurring favorites like; Senior Wences, Topo Gigio and the guy with the spinning plates (whose name I forget). Wow, I haven't seen "Rin-Tin-Tin" along with Rusty in a long time, the most famous dog in Hollywood. "Walt Disney Disneyland" a TV show that opened theme park, was great being in color along with "Bonanza" in sea of B/W TV shows.

Before the sports movie(s), remember the Million Dollar Movie on LA Ch. 9 I believe, the guy would sit in a chair on some street in Hollywood and host the movie that night (actually I think it was the same movie played every night all week!!). Do you remember the host? I can't think of his name. No time to look it up now. Movies that I love from that "MDM" The High and the Mighty" and Highway in the Sky", two John Wayne classics, back when flying was REALLY dangerous!!! Sports movies : old - Angels in the Outfield", new = "The Natural". Overall, "The Natural" wins!!! Get chills every time the lightning/thunder cracks, and betcha I've watched it 50-100 times, lol.

He was the News guy Ted Myers at KHJ Channel 9 and he was the voice of the station too. Yeah, they use to run all of the old "RKO" studio movies from the 1930's and up and why not KHJ the TV stations was owned by "RKO" studios I remember the first movie I watch on that Million dollar Movie show was King Kong an RKO classic! Wow, good one The Natural yes!!

anyone remember a movie from the 80's named The Final Countdown? I hadn't seen it since I was a kid and what a fun treat it was. THe Nimitz goes back in time to right before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Just ordered the Blueray.

I love Navy Sub, type WW 2 movies - Yes, I haven't seen it in decades with Martin Sheen and Kirk Douglas - Nimitz gets swallowed up in micro black hole Worm hole in time back to 1941, and they weigh the decision of whether to win the war single handily for the USA or, don't disturb history get back to their own time.

Yes sir, that is the one. Here locally in LA, Channel 5 would show those movies on weekends. As a kid, I grew up on movies like the Dirty Dozen, Midway, the Devils Brigade and a few others. did you see PT-109? The movie was good but of course, inaccurate. Kennedy was going to be brought up on charges but Daddy stepped in.

The comedy was so original, and no real violence. There were gun fights alright, but never any blood. One shot and the person was dead. And the only other violence was fist fights. What contrast to the tasteless sitcoms of today! Leadside! He was their version of Ironside. He could run but not walk. That one scene where he & his henchmen are planning in the back of a moving van was great. Leadside wraps it up by saying there's only one thing that bothers him. Then he does a head count. One of his henchmen asks what's wrong. Seems okay. "Who's driving the van?" That Chinese villain too. The Craw. "Not the Craw! The Craw!" They had one KAOS agent running a plant nursery with a man eating plant. The Chief & Larabee (that was his name?) were always getting into it. Edward Platt (a relative of the former Dodger PR man Benny Platt) would just get that tired expression. Like he was through dealing with the stupidity. Well, at the end of that episode the plant ate it's master right in front of everyone. The Chief tells Larabee to take the plant downtown & confiscate it. "I can't do that Chief. I'm not a priest." "Just take it downtown & put it somewhere!" "Where?" Tired look. "Right next to your desk." That episode where a mad scientist was bringing dead KAOS agents back to life on a deserted island. He & Igor were playing a crazy duet on organ & violin while Max was cutting through restraining ropes. They were about to finish & 99 yells out - "One more time!" And they go into another chorus. The Nazis were always classic. "I was the second man out of El Alamein." "Who was the first?" "Siegfried." Then Max beat Starker out of the gate of a prison camp in a foot race for something like five bucks. He was supposed to keep going but came back for the five bucks.
