"The record industry as well, in the 40's, 50's and 60's had similar set of circumstances from people like; Morris Levy, “Stan the Man” Watson, Angelo "The Chairman" Meli aka Poppa Mel etc..." Didn't Jules Stein have a big hand in the music industry? People remember him for his eye institute. He was mobbed up too though. The Chicago Outfit. Johnny Roselli was point man for Nitti in Hollywood. Bioff could never get 'made' because of his ethnicity. Not sure he would have anyway. He turned rat. I grew up on Dragnet & actually bought that Los Angeles was relatively clean as opposed to big eastern cities. Not even close. In the early days, crime was run out of City Hall, with the police acting as bag men. Then there was some guy named Crawford during the 20's. City Hall might have used him as a front. The Chicago boys came in after that. Lucky Luciano realized he was too slow to realize the potential. So he sent Bugsy Siegel out here to grab part of LA before it was too late. Siegel opened up Vegas & gave Jack Dragna orders. Course he got shot for stealing. Mickey Cohen inherited his rackets. The Dragna's tried real hard to kill Mickey. So obviously Mickey didn't have the same sway with New York that Siegel had. It's fascinating reading about the goings on & how most people didn't have a clue. The Chicago Outfit was always much more open to working with other ethnicities. Al Capone himself wasn't a Sicilian. Luciano was a visionary who would have worked more closely with other people, but Tom Dewey put him away & then he was later deported. He had already worked with Lansky, Siegel & Buchalter. They had Dutch Schultz killed because he was a madman. Jules Stein founded Music Corp of America, that started as a music and entertainment booking agency before branching into movies and cutting records by that time Stein had appointed Lew (the Mogul) Wasserman to run the outfit on a daily basis as chairmen and open the door for Ronald Regan into the political world a which started when Regan was president of the SAG in the early 50's and Regan with MCA got an special exemption to produce shows in unlimited quantities one of those shows was G.E. Theater, it was like Playhouse 90, or, the Texaco Star Theater with young actors breaking in etc common place back then. Nine years Later, that practice caught wind of Attorney General office for Anti-Trust violation by the one and only, Robert Kennedy. Regan spent the entire after noon testifying but couldn't remember the events of 9 years ago. After a lot of questions, charges were dropped... Dragnet huh..Jack Webb...I used to listen to that on radio before it came on TV George Fenneman was the announcer and for Groucho Marx "You Bet Your Life" that was best show in the world I loved Groucho arguably, the greatest game show host in the world but I digress.... Western expansion out of Chicago after getting establishing Vegas as the mob was trying to set up their own town for gambling purposes but didn't Gus Greenbaum order Tom Dragna to kill Tony Brancato and Tony Trombino and from that point on, Mickey the King of LA... Have you ever seen LA Confidential or, Bugsy Movies?

Reagan was bad with money. He was in a lot of debt. He wasn't SAG president anymore. They brought him back to broker a deal between SAG & the television networks over residuals. Reagan basically back-stabbed the old time actors. Then he retired. He got the job as host of General Electric Theater as a reward. He also had some worthless & craggy land on his Malibu ranch. Someone connected to Wasserman bought the land at an inflated price. When Reagan became governor he had Parks & Reaction buy the land for the state at an even more inflated price. So, first he backstabbed his own constituency, then he took TWO bribes, & finally he screwed California taxpayers. Sorry. Never liked that guy. There was a hilarious skit on Saturday Night Live once about Reagan. How he played this doddering old fool when people were around. Then, as soon as they left, he sprung to life with all his evil. It culminated with him telling Jimmy Stewart - "don't make me kill you!"

As a teenager I would watch those reruns high on pot & just fall out laughing at the clichés, & how Jack obviously put WAY too much starch in his shorts. "Yeah, it starts out as pot. Before long your doing acid, smack. Pot is the gateway drug. You've never held some poor kid's head while he was tripping out on acid. Empty his pockets & you'll be sure to find a reefer or two."
Don't know that much about Gus Greenbaum other than he was the Man in Vegas for a while, & he & his wife were brutally murdered. He was an Arizona bookie, right? I think he was killed in Phoenix.
"Have you ever seen LA Confidential or, Bugsy Movies?"
Loved the first. Eh on the second.

"Have you ever seen LA Confidential or, Bugsy Movies?" Loved the first. Eh on the second. Yeah, both he and his wife had their throats cut in Phoenix....also check out a the movie then the book called "Dark Victory" by Dan E. Moldea. it explains the rise of Ronald Reagan, the trial notes and Reagan's forgetfulness and how the mob help put'em in the White House. Dragnet - I remember one episode they did on Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, Webb's reading of the word is just phenomenal... the whole episode was phenomenal with this kid they called blue boy that had half of his face painted blue...as the story move on to the Hollywood hills and to further illustrate the evils of drugs you have a person eating a paint brush, one guy eating paint chips off the wall, another dude with a Reel to Reel tape recorder stopping and staring over and over. The old shows; Dragnet, Highway Patrol, the Naked City, Peter Gunn and believe or not "The Adventures of Superman" especially the early episodes - can't be the Film Noir grit of: "Touch of Evil" ," Kiss me Deadly" which was actually disturbing, "The Third Man", "Night and the City" and so "|Maltese Falcon"...etc..

I loved how Superman would let the bullets bounce off his chest & then dodge a gun thrown at him.

I loved how Superman would let the bullets bounce off his chest & then dodge a gun thrown at him. That was an episode call "Czar of the Under World"! Clark and Inspector Henderson go to Hollywood to do a documentary on Luigi (I forget his last name) , but he was a mobster and Clark wrote an article detailing this, and that was to be incorporated into this movie, until someone put live ammo in the prop gun and shot the star. There's a clever twist at the end with the police chief.... I won't spoil it for you:)

Currently watching Copland. I have seen in numerous times but seemed to have enjoyed it alot more this time. Stallone's performance was critically overlooked and his best performance yet.

Lost In Space: 2018 Version
Speaking of Netflix for those who like Sci-fi the new "Lost in Space" is good, however, if you watched the original TV show back in the 60's, don't expect the same out of this new series version, with the exception of the names being the same for the characters, everything else has been changed up to the point where, if it weren't for the familiar call tags, it could have easily been called something else! - More than, worth a look!

Thanks for the heads up Bklynla 👍 My Pleasure ! That movie about a decade or so ago was terrible! The TV show was pretty lame also, looking back on it. It was sort of the dawn of sci-fi, so I guess I need to cut it some slack. The best sci-fi is the Twilight Zone.

"Danger! Danger Will Robinson!"
Dr. Smith - "The Pain. The Pain!" As duplicitous as that guy was I would have left him in a shallow ditch on some far away planet. Who would ever know?
"Where's Dr. Smith?"
"He was eaten by an acid cloud."
"Oh dear!"
"Yes. We'll all miss him. Time to go."
The original Star Trek was hilarious. Kirk had such a massive ego. The Prime Directive was that we don't interfere with alien development. Then Kirk would mold every culture they encountered into his own image. Tim Allen had a spoof that pretty much nailed it.

The best sci-fi is the Twilight Zone. I think I would' put the dawn of sci-fi somewhere between a Fritz Lange movie called "Metropolis" and "Flash Gordon " ,"Buck Rodgers" movie serial(s) of the 1930(s) up to Tom Corbett Space Cadets , Captain Video and Commander Cody all of that was real primitive even compared to 1965 with "Lost in Space". The LOST IN SPACE movie, was a port over of the TV show mostly however, The Netflix version Reboot is nearly a total ReVamp and Reimaging Including The Robot, Which Is Alien to The Robinson's. Twilight Zone, pure genius that is for sure!
