Whoever the Dodgers deal for to replace Mooky while on the IL, what do we do with him when Mooky returns soon after the all star break? I've been against trading for Bichette, but now it looks like a trade might be forced. An idea would be, during July when many trades are made to trade the player who replaces Mooky while he's out and then trade him again. The plot thickens! If LA trades for a SS, whoever is playing 2B (Lux? Kiké? Taylor?) could then either be moved to the bench or Betts could move back to RF and replace Heyward and his .200 BA. and weak arm. I don’t think Mookie’s EVER going to evolve into an elite SS or 2B. But he IS an elite RF.
Shouldn’t he play in the position he’s MOST effective in, rather than one HE wants? There’s no “I” in team. I know Daisy wants to be everybody’s friend, but moving Betts to the IF was a mistake. GO DODGERS!!! We dont need any "elite" fielders, only competent ones. Remember Bill Russell, whom I've mentioned a lot, got plenty of criticism for his average at best defense at SS. But just like Mooky, he could do so many things at bat and on the bases so he contributed plenty to the Dodgers' success in the 70s and into the 80s.

Mookie has an infield of misfits, including Maxine, Kiké, Lutz, Taylor, Rojas and Freeman - none of whom are ever likely to win Gold Gloves. And Mookie was starting to show signs that his fielding WAS affecting his plate appearances. His average was dropping as were his power numbers. We’ve seen Betts go into slumps before - but he usually has been able to work his way out of them. But manning SS is probably the most important position in the IF. That’s a lot to take on mentally to go along with batting lead off. I thought this decision was right up there with moving Bells from his natural position of 1B to CF to “save him from injury”. Despite his injury history, his mental state took a major hit and his bat has never been the same since that MVP and ROY. Appears the baby bears are transitioning him back to 1B. Sure - players can be successful in changing positions. Garvey went from a meh 3B to an All Star 1B, even with his lack of height. But that was done VERY early in his MLB career, not ten years in. Pete Rose changed positions several times in his career. But he moved to less difficult positions, not higher profile and harder to play spots. And he was Pete Rose. I think the team and Mookie are better overall with him in RF. But that’s just me. GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Justin Wrobleski: Moving up to Triple-A Rotowire 4 HRS AGO Wrobleski was informed after his start Sunday with Double-A Tulsa that he has been promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City, Barry Lewis of the Tulsa World reports.
Wrobleski ended his run at Tulsa on a high note, holding Arkansas scoreless while striking out four and allowing five baserunners over a season-high seven innings. The 23-year-old lefty struck out less than a batter per inning over his 13 starts with Tulsa (8.3 K/9), but he issued just 13 walks and gave up only three home runs across 67.2 frames to finish his time at Double-A with a 3.06 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. Heading into the season, Wrobleski looked to be buried on the pitching-rich Dodgers' organizational depth chart, but he's now just one step away from the majors and would seem to have a decent chance at making his Los Angeles debut in the second half. Though Bobby Miller (shoulder) is due back from the injured list this week and Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) could return around the All-Star break, the Dodgers' starting depth has been tested with standout rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) joining Dustin May (elbow), Tony Gonsolin (elbow) and Emmet Sheehan (elbow) on the injured list.

Rojas trying to prove his worth at SS and now batting just a tick below .300. Could he be the everyday player to replace Mookie for the next couple of months?
He’s supposed to be above average on defense and if he can continue hitting, perhaps all this trade talk is a bit premature.
LA has been suffering thru Lutz and his meh defense, arm and.200 average since the beginning of the year.
Rojas should at the very least be given a chance to earn his place in the field and lineup.
In the meantime, Paxton is throwing another gem and has been a pleasant and unexpected surprise addition to the rotation.
LA once again leaving far too many ducks on the pond in CO. Three for thirteen with RISP and ten LOB thus far.
7 - 1 good guys in the eighth.
By the way, the new City Connect uniforms are gay, super gay, Liberace gay - in that order.
GO DODGERS!!!

I have a family emergency going on over here & just noticed. 7-1 Dodgers. Ohtani leading off. Freeman has 5 walks. Colorado does NOT want Freddie cleaning up at their expense.

Thank goodness LA kept their bats going the final three innings and scoring six.
Fire sale showing why he should get the chicken bus ride back to OK City by giving up four himself in the eighth and ninth, including two moon shots to bump his ERA up over eight.
Yes - Denver is a tough place to pitch. But Paxton, who’ll never be misconstrued with Nolan Ryan, went seven and only surrendered a single run on a HR and one other hit, while striking out eight.
Shohei, Heyward and Rojas all went three for five; Freddie tied a team record with five walks. Guess the Rox REALLY didn’t want to pitch to him!
GO DODGERS!!!

Good! I've been wondering what he was still doing at AA Tulsa. I've posted about him before, that as long as he keeps the ball down, he's Randy Johnson. He could well be our lefty in the rotation next year.

Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Collects three hits Monday Rotowire 12 HRS AGO Rojas went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI against the Rockies in Monday's 9-5 victory.
With Mookie Betts going down with a fractured left hand Sunday and set to miss several weeks, Rojas appears primed for a near-everyday role at shortstop. He did his best Betts impression Monday, notching three hits for the third time this season and scoring twice. Naturally, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Rojas to come anywhere near Betts' level of production, though the former Miami Marlin is having a solid season at the dish with a .292/.339/.460 slash line, three homers, 10 doubles, 15 RBI, 15 runs and three stolen bases through 121 plate appearances.
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Produces three hits in victory Rotowire 12 HRS AGO Heyward went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Monday's 9-5 win over Colorado.
Heyward's pair of RBI came on a single in the eighth inning. The veteran notched his second three-hit effort of the campaign and snapped an eight-game slump during which he had gone 2-for-22 at the plate. Overall, Heyward is slashing .241/.337/.443 with three homers, 11 RBI, 13 runs and two stolen bases through 92 plate appearances on the season.
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Draws five walks Monday Rotowire 12 HRS AGO Freeman went 1-for-1 with two runs and five walks in a 9-5 win against Colorado on Monday.
Freeman's patience was on display in the victory, as he tied a Dodgers franchise record by drawing five free passes. The veteran isn't shy about taking walks -- his 14.6 percent walk rate on the campaign ranks eighth among qualified MLB hitters and is on pace for the highest mark of his career. Of course, Freeman is plenty capable when swinging the bat as well, as he's currently batting .302, putting him on pace for his fifth straight season hitting at least .300.
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Racks up three hits from atop order Rotowire 12 HRS AGO Ohtani went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk Monday in a 9-5 victory versus the Rockies.
With Mookie Betts (hand) set to miss several weeks, Ohtani could see most of his work out of the leadoff spot -- he's now slotted in there for both games that Betts has missed so far this season. Ohtani certainly possesses qualities of a leadoff man with a .314 average, .388 OBP and 16 thefts on the campaign, though his power far exceeds what is usually expected from a batter in that role. Ohtani could lose some RBI opportunities with Betts not hitting ahead of him for the foreseeable future, but the Japanese superstar is more than capable of knocking himself in and should continue to get opportunities to score with Will Smith and Freddie Freeman batting behind him.
Dodgers' James Paxton: Quiets Colorado at Coors Field Rotowire 12 HRS AGO Paxton (7-1) earned the win over the Rockies on Monday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over seven innings.
Paxton gave up a second-inning solo homer but otherwise dominated Colorado hitters, holding them to just one additional hit. The veteran hurler completed seven innings for the first time this season and notched his second consecutive quality start. Paxton also tallied a season-high eight punchouts -- three more than his previous top mark in 2024 -- and walked just one batter. There was some uncertainty about Paxton's role after two recent poor starts given that Bobby Miller (shoulder) is set to return this week, but with back-to-back strong outings and with Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) set to miss several weeks of action, Paxton's place in the rotation looks to be secure.

So now Mookie is listed as “several weeks” for recovery. Who made that diagnosis? Dr. Doolittle?
I’ve broken more than my share of bones dating back to when I was in high school, in the best shape of my life and playing the big three (football, basketball and baseball).
Never once was I told or did I ever recover in “several weeks”.
Mookie may be one of the fittest athletes in the game or even all major sports.
But fractured bones don’t heal themselves in weeks. And it’s not like he a kid in his 20’s anymore.
The three ribs I broke back in January are still bothersome from time to time as is the cracked fibula from December.
Granted, I’ve go over 30 years and 100 + pounds on Mookie.
But shit takes longer to heal the older we ALL get and I’d be more than surprised if we see Betts much before late August / early September.
And even then, he’s going to have to get his swing and timing back.
Maybe by October he’ll do that and not fade into the woodwork like we saw out of him and others the last two postseasons.
GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Sitting versus lefty Rotowire 30 MINS AGO Heyward isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Tuesday's game versus Colorado.
Austin Gomber will toe the slab for the Rockies on Tuesday, meaning the left-handed bat of Heyward will step out of the lineup. Teoscar Hernandez will move to right field as a result, opening up left field for Miguel Vargas.
Dodgers' Cavan Biggio: Getting breather against LHP Rotowire 31 MINS AGO Biggio isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies.
The lefty-hitting Biggio will get a day off versus southpaw Austin Gomber and the Rockies. Enrique Hernandez will get the nod at third base instead while batting seventh.
Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Resting versus LHP Rotowire 33 MINS AGO Lux isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Tuesday against the Rockies.
Colorado will send left-hander Austin Gomber to the mound Tuesday, so the lefty-hitting Lux will sit down to begin the game. Chris Taylor will fill in at the keystone and bat ninth.

Listening to these Rockies announcers is hilarious. Teoscar held up on a check swing. The announcers went nuts. Then he hit a three-run homer.
