Friedman is using a different mouthpiece. But it's still him. At least we didn't get a medical opinion & prognosis on Clayton's return.
Yes. We ALL want Kershaw back. He should retire a Dodger. Have a week dedicated to him.
I wonder if they can work it to where he gets 'hurt' again right before the playoffs. Seriously. Have him bow out with dignity. Not another postseason collapse.

Right, it would be so sad for his last ever game was a repeat of last year's when he only got one out, and it was a loud one at that. Sandy Koufax's last game was just three days after his last regular season game in '66, The Orioles scored 6 runs off him (1 earned) in 6 innings. He'd been pitching with a torn rotator cuff that was long thought to be arthritis. Amazing his 2 best seasons were his last 2, with every pitch causing terrible pain. If only Tommy John existed then.

That was where Willie Davis played like crap behind Sandy. I wish I still had his autograph. Dad actually insulted Davis & he came back to sign our books.

Putting May, Catman and the other dude on the 60-day IL opens three roster spots for sure.
But those 60 days will expire long before Kershaw is expected to be ready to pitch again, which may not be until June or even after the All Star break.
I don’t see how those open spots to start the season will have any effect on open roster spots if and when Kershaw is ready and willing to return.
Or am I just being obtuse? Yes - I watched Shawshank again recently!

Yankees Trade for Caleb Ferguson; Dodgers Get Matt Gage, Christian Zazueta Jr.
TIMOTHY RAPPX.com Logo
FEBRUARY 5, 2024
The New York Yankees acquired left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday in exchange for left-handed pitcher Matt Gage and right-handed pitcher Christian Zazueta Jr.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman first reported the deal.
Ferguson, 27, went 7-4 for the Dodgers last season in 68 total appearances and seven starts across 60.1 innings, notching 70 strikeouts with a 3.43 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. He was even better in 2022, posting a 1.82 ERA in 37 innings.
One concern long-term may be durability, as Ferguson needed Tommy John surgery in 2020 and missed the 2021 campaign. It hasn't hindered him in the past two seasons, however, when he was a reliable option for the Dodgers.
The Yankees, meanwhile, have tapped the Dodgers for pitching reinforcements this winter, also landing Victor González from Los Angeles in a December trade to bolster the bullpen. He posted a 4.01 ERA and 30 strikeouts across 34 appearances in 2023.
For the Yankees, adding the pair of lefties for the bullpen will soften the blow of losing Wandy Peralta, who signed with the San Diego Padres last week on a four-year, $16.5 million deal.
As for the Dodgers, the 31-year-old Gage has just 16 MLB appearances to his name in the past two seasons for the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays, posting a 1.83 ERA across 19.2 innings.
More than likely, though, the trade was about creating another spot on the 40-man roster after reportedly signing righty reliever Ryan Brasier to a two-year, $9 million contract. The 36-year-old was excellent for the Dodgers after being acquired in June, notching a 0.70 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in 39 games out of the bullpen.

Dodgers News: J.D. Martinez's 'Perfect' Fit is Within AL Central, Says MLB GMs
Story by Ricardo Sandoval • 3h
The Los Angeles Dodgers have themselves their designated hitter for the next ten years, and he goes by the name of Shohei Ohtani.
It's not like they lacked a designated hitter in 2023, though. The Dodgers had themselves one of the best sluggers at the position, veteran J.D. Martinez. Martinez spent the 2023 season in Los Angeles, and it rejuvenated his career.
Martinez was spectacular for the Boys in Blue; however, with the addition of Ohtani, Martinez was no longer needed. Now, the 36-year-old is searching for a new home.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale wrote that MLB general managers believe this AL Central team could be an excellent fit for the long-time slugger.
"The perfect fit for DH J.D. Martinez, GMs say, are the Cleveland Guardians, who have spent just $1.1 million this winter."
(per Bob Nightengale via USA Today)
Martinez was among the best sluggers in 2023 and took part in leading the Dodgers to among the best offenses in the league. Just imagine what he could do for the Cleveland Guardians' offense. Outside of superstar Jose Ramirez and young slugger Josh Naylor, the Guardians offense was nothing to be intimated about. Cleveland is the only team in their division not to improve this offseason, and a potential Martinez addition would bolster their lineup.
Martinez is coming off a tremendous year and could garner a lot of money. Last season with the Boys in Blue, he signed a one-year, $10 million deal.
With the season he's coming off, he will certainly want more than that, and he may be out of the Guardians' price range. Nonetheless, there's no denying his talent and what he could do for the Cleveland organization.

Dodgers re-sign Brasier
The Dodgers have re-signed righty reliever Ryan Brasier to a two-year contract, reports The Athletic. The deal is worth $9 million, and incentives can push the total value to $13 million. He will essentially step into the bullpen spot vacated by lefty Caleb Ferguson. Los Angeles traded Ferguson to the Yankees for two pitchers earlier in the day Monday.
Brasier, 36, joined the Dodgers after getting released by the Red Sox last June, and he was a revelation after picking up a new cutter. He allowed three earned runs and allowed only 28 baserunners in 38 2/3 innings with Los Angeles. That was after pitching to a 7.29 ERA with the Red Sox. Brasier will join Evan Phillips and Brusdar Graterol in the Dodgers' late-inning mix.

Flea Market (Ferguson) and Fruit Salad (Almonte) along with Mary (Bickford).
Gaterade, Brazier Burger and Train Wreck (?) at the top end of the Dodger pen.
A choice of around eight others for the rotation; Kershaw back around mid-season; May possibly a little later.
Pitching is starting to look as good as the lineup. We certainly cannot complain that ownership hasn’t gone all in this year and in the team’s future.
These guys have all of the potential to pull off multiple titles if their play matches that potential and they can stay healthy.
Of course, the Fraudy / Daisy factor will remain and I honestly don’t see how either keeps their jobs if LA fails to secure another title in the next year or two.
But I’ve been saying that for years.
GO DODGERS!!!

Veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw re-signs with Dodgers
Story by Alex Butler •
2h
Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw pushed off retirement and re-signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Sources told MLB.com, ESPN and the Los Angeles Times about the agreement Tuesday.
Kershaw, 35, has spent his entire 16-year MLB career with the Dodgers. The team has yet to announce the agreement, which is pending a physical.
The 10-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner and 2014 National League MVP went 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA last season. Kershaw is 210-92 over 425 career appearances, including 422 starts.
His 2.48 career ERA is the best for pitchers with at least 1,500 innings pitched in baseball's live ball era (1920).
Kershaw's 6.818 hits allowed per nine innings are the third-fewest in MLB history. He also is the active leader in fewest home runs allowed (0.746) per nine innings.
The star left-handed pitcher, who underwent off-season shoulder surgery, isn't expected to return to the mound until later in the 2024 MLB season.
If he does come back, he will join a rotation that includes off-season additions Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Dodgers pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for spring training Friday at Camelback Ranch-Glendale in Phoenix.

We knew he would be back. Now it's official. No way he was retiring with the stench of that final playoff game on his tongue. Still have to opine that one went on Fraudy / Daisy - dude was obviously hurting and should have never started Game 1 to begin with. He was not right his last couple of regular season starts and sitting him those final couple of weeks did not help in the least. The choices were limited, but Kersh shouldn’t have been one of them. GO DODGERS!!!
