Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Breaks slump in Coors Field Rotowire 3 HRS AGO Heyward went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 4-1 loss to the Rockies during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
The Dodgers romped to an 11-2 win in the nightcap, but Heyward didn't get much help in the matinee as he snapped an 0-for-16 mini-slump by producing his fourth September game with three or more hits. The roller coaster ride has left the veteran outfielder with a .328/.350/.534 slash line in 60 plate appearances on the month with six doubles, two homers, five RBI and eight runs.
Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Tames Coors for 11th win Rotowire 3 HRS AGO Miller (11-4) picked up the win in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies, giving up two runs on seven hits over seven innings in the Dodgers' 11-2 rout. He struck out nine without walking a batter.
Making his first career appearance at Coors Field, Miller was unfazed by the hitter-friendly environment and carved up Colorado's lineup, generating 31 called or swinging strikes among his 91 pitches en route to a new career high in strikeouts. Miller has delivered three quality starts in five September outings, posting a 3.58 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 36:6 K:BB through 32.2 innings on the month to close the books on a strong rookie campaign, and he figures to be a key part of the Dodgers' postseason rotation.
Dodgers' Ryan Pepiot: Fans career-high nine in matinee Rotowire 4 HRS AGO Pepiot came away with a no-decision during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six relief innings in a 4-1 loss to the Rockies. He struck out nine.
The rookie right-hander didn't flinch during his first career outing in Coors Field after watching opener Caleb Ferguson cough up three runs while recording only two outs in the first inning -- Pepiot retired Sean Bouchard to end the frame, then cruised to what would have qualified as a quality start had he begun the game. The nine strikeouts were also a career high, as the 26-year-old recorded 19 swinging strikes on 95 pitches. Pepiot has been brilliant in September, recording a 2.16 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 21:2 K:BB through 25 innings over four appearances (two starts and two bulk relief outings), and he could see action one more time before the end of the regular season, on the road Oct. 1 in San Francisco.

Got a good chuckle via the two mouthpieces calling the games yesterday for the local Redlegs / Injuns game in Cleveland.
Jeff Brantley (known as The Cowboy & former pitcher for the team) was talking about how the Reds brought in Brett Butler in the spring to teach hitters how to bunt, hit and run and basically just make contact with runners on.
He then went on to state that it looked like the “old days” of swinging for the fences was in the rear view mirror and that more teams were starting to manufacture runs like they used to up until the last decade when analytics became such a vital part of the game and its management.
WHAT A JOKE!!! There were NINE HR’s in the game they were calling and I believe the long ball has reached new heights league wide again this year (over 5,700) eclipsing last years total of just over 5,200.
And there’s still four or five games left for most teams this season.
The long ball and swinging for the fences game hasn’t and isn’t going anywhere any time too soon.
MLB seems to prefer more action and more runs for the low attention span customers over the purists like myself who will take a good pitchers duel every day over the softball scores we have seen these last few years.
GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Belts 27th homer Rotowire 2 HRS AGO Freeman went 3-for-8 with a two-run home run, an additional run, a double and two walks across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader split with the Rockies.
Freeman did most of his work in the nightcap, when he padded an already substantial Dodgers lead with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. The superstar first baseman added a double in that contest, his league-leading 58th two-bagger of the campaign. He needs two more doubles to become the first MLB player since 1936 to collect 60 in a campaign. Freeman has complemented the two-bagger bonanza with 27 homers, 98 RBI, 127 runs, 22 stolen bases and a .333/.410/.564 slash line.
Dodgers' James Outman: Tallies four hits Tuesday Rotowire 2 HRS AGO Outman went 4-for-6 with a pair of runs in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies.
After going 0-for-4 in a Game 1 loss, Outman bounced back by rapping four singles in the nightcap. It was the rookie's third four-hit game of the campaign and his first multi-hit effort since Aug. 28. Even with the Game 2 performance, Outman has struggled to a .211/.322/.421 slash line over 23 contests in September, though he's knocked five homers and a double among his 16 hits.
Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Making another start Wednesday Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Sheehan is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Sheehan will make his second straight turn through the Los Angeles rotation after a brief stint in the bullpen. He turned in a gem his last time out this past Thursday against the Giants, striking out a career-high nine while allowing one earned run on no hits and four walks over 4.2 innings. Though he's pitched well of late, Sheehan hasn't hit five innings in any of his starts or relief appearances in the majors or minors since late July, so the Dodgers may not keep him in Wednesday's game long enough to qualify for a win.

Um - hello - Daisy / Fraudman? The Flea Market “opener” experiment seems to be a bust. Dude is NOT a starter and couldn’t even get out of the first inning. May be time to chuck this strategy and just let Dr. Pepper start and throw until he hits that magical number of analytic garbage pitches you so worship and abide by. GO DODGERS!!! I can't for the life of me figure out why Robby has Fergie start a single inning, or in this case 2/3, only to let Pepperman pitch the next 6 or 7. Pepperman wouldn't have been the winning pitcher anyhow cos the Dodger bats were silenced, but he still would've had a no-decision which he did Robby's way. I only got to see the first 2 innings cos I had to go to the kiropractor. I went to bed Friday feeling fine, but woke up with lower back pain. I gave it a few days to go away on its own but it hasn't so I had to fork over $20 co payment. I'm somewhat better today but I see him again tomorrow. But later it was MILLER TIME! This playoff series' are shaping up to be the kiddie rotation show. Tonite is Emmit and we'll see how the Rocks like 3 kids shutting down their bats. Dodgers get a first round bye and they get at least a 6 day rest and that gives the 3 headed monster plenty of time to psych themselves up since the post season is a pressure cooker. I like the guys' idea on MLB: Let Kersh start the opener for 4 or 5 innings, then Emmit takes over. Bobby starts game 2, then Pepperman game 3, then Sir Lancealot game 4. With plenty of off days, only a 4 man rotation is needed.
