I was at the game today. Before the game, when players were making their way from the practice field to sign autographs, Kersh was getting mobbed by the kids. He had to have writer's cramp and only stopped signing cos his pen ran out of ink.
Julio started the game. He didnt' have much velocity and though he had several swings and misses, he just couldn't put anyone away, but for one. I was seated on the 3rd base side, about 12 rows back at about where the infield dirt meets the grass, so I couldn't see what the pitches were doing, but 4 ER in 5 innings. Mad Max hit a 2 run shot in the first, and later an RBI double, so it's safe to say he's finally healed.
I was to see four game this spring, but only saw two. I saw the first one, had to cancel the second cos of a last minute family gathering, didn't risk driving 44 miles last Tuesday cos of the rain so I didn't take the chance, and I saw the game today.
But Pepperman is the #5 starter, yippee! His past two starts, he's started off great, but has lost it by the 5th. That's for sure something Mark Prior will work with him on, till Katmann comes back. At some point this season, Pepperman and Gavin STone just might be in the rotation together. WE'll have to see when it's Miller time, but three rookie pitchers in the rotation?: That'll make history for sure!

Dodgers' Dustin May: Staring second game for LA Rotowire 5 HRS AGO May will make his first start of the regular season in the Dodgers' second game of the campaign, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
The Dodgers announced Friday that lefty Julio Urias will take the mound Opening Day, and the team prefers to follow him in the rotation with a right-hander rather than another southpaw. Consequently, May is scheduled to take the mound March 31 while Clayton Kershaw will start the team's third game April 1.
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Will start third game for LA Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Kershaw will make his first start of the regular season in the Dodgers' third game of the campaign, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
The Dodgers announced Friday that southpaw Julio Urias will be their Opening Day starter, and manager Dave Roberts prefers to avoid having a lefty start on back-to-back days. That means Dustin May will slot in between Urias and Kershaw, the latter of whom lines up to face fellow veteran southpaw Madison Bumgarner and the Diamondbacks on April 1.
Dodgers' Jake Pilarski: Throwing triple-digit heat Rotowire 20 HRS AGO Pilarski hit 101 mph with his fastball in a Cactus League game against Colorado on Monday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Pilarski has never been on any sort of prospect radar -- he wasn't drafted out of college in 2021 and spent the past two years playing independent-league ball. The right-hander made massive gains with his velocity this winter, and the triple-digit heat he flashed against the Rockies helped him strike out the side in his inning of work. Pilarski has yet to pitch in the minor leagues and clearly has a ways to go in terms of development, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts suggested that the 24-year-old won't necessarily have to make a slow ascent through the system, saying, "If he keeps pitching [impressively], he's gonna be on the fast track."

Dodgers' Dustin May: Throws 94 pitches in final tune-up Rotowire 4 HRS AGO May completed 5.2 innings in a Cactus League start against Kansas City on Saturday, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out four batters.
May's outing was the longest by a Dodgers pitcher this spring and puts him in line to handle a nearly full workload once the regular season begins. The right-hander was tagged by Bobby Witt Jr. for a three-run homer in the third inning but otherwise allowed just one run. May is scheduled to start Los Angeles' second game of the season Friday at home against Arizona.

Dodgers' Chris Taylor: May have part-time role Rotowire 4 HRS AGO Taylor could be limited to more of a part-time role to begin 2023 with David Peralta, James Outman and Mookie Betts looking like the Dodgers' primary outfielders, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
The left-handed bats of Peralta and Outman should have them seeing most of their chances against right-handed pitching, which likely leaves Taylor to start versus southpaws. Taylor certainly didn't help himself with a poor showing during spring training, as he hit .125 and struck out 23 times in 57 plate appearances, which tops his career-worst 35.2 percent strikeout rate from 2022. The veteran utility man should still see fairly regular at-bats between shortstop -- where Miguel Rojas is filling in with Gavin Lux (knee) out for the season -- and the outfield, but Taylor's fantasy utility could be limited unless he's able to make more consistent contact and carve out a larger role.

Amazing what happens to some of these guys the minute they get those multi-year high dollar contracts. I remember when we got Strawberry and Davis and the predictions of the most formidable outfield in the history of the game. They both SUCKED. Davis couldn’t stay off the DL and Straw couldn’t stay off the white powder. I thought Taylor was a massive overpay based on one or two good seasons. And we will continue to regret letting Seager walk in order to keep a failing Bells another two useless years. GO DODGERS!!!

That's the exact same way Steve Howe let us all down. He was having his best season, and he got caught three times in the '83 season and was suspended a few games each time, if I remember right, but the third time, he was gone the rest of the season and all of '84. In '85 he was having a poor season, and got caught yet again! I remember one evening watching the news (pre-ESPN and MLB Network days) and when it was time for sports, the first thing the anchor said was "where is Steve Howe?" and my dad, as was his way, started swearing, and Tommy Lasorda wasn't in a good mood about him either. Well now the team cut him, and the Twins signed him and he did even worse with them. His last six seasons were with the Yanks where he did reasonably well for the most part, but nowhere near his Dodger years. What a waste.

My apartment was the gathering place of all my friends. We would smoke weed & drink Heinekens, while watching the Dodgers or Lakers. Steve closed out a game, after coming back from one of his suspensions. In the post-game interview, I looked at his eyes & shouted - "HE'S HIGH RIGHT NOW!" Right after that he got suspended again. His life was tragic because of his dependency.

Dodgers Farm System Ranks Second in All of Baseball in Latest Prospects Analysis
Story by Noel Sanchez • 4h ago
Opposing fans of other franchises love to look at the Dodgers' continued success over the years and simply brush it off as buying their most important players. While it is true that Los Angeles is one of the most attractive landing spots for free agents and their front office has also been able to pull off some blockbuster trades in the past, this belief is disrespectful to the Dodgers' ability to develop their prospects.
Specifically when it comes to pitching, there are few farming systems that prospects could wind up in that will prepare them for the big league better than LA. Julio Urias and Clayton Kershaw, two of the most respected pitchers in baseball, are homegrown by the Dodgers and have only suited up for them in their careers.
For this very reason, the Dodgers' farm system has also come at or near the top whenever rankings are made prior to this season. 2023 is no different and MLB writer Jim Callis had a lot of praise for them as he placed number two this year only behind the Baltimore Orioles.
"Since the Braves of the 1990s and early 2000s, no organization has sustained winning in the Majors with developing talent in the Minors like the Dodgers have. Not only do they have a bevy of Top 100 Prospects ready to produce in the big leagues this season, they also have several Top 100 candidates percolating at lower levels, including catcher Dalton Rushing, right-handers Nick Nastrini and Nick Frasso and outfielder Josue De Paula."
(Via Jim Callis)
Considering that the Dodgers have most recently welcomed Ryan Pepiot into their starting lineup prior to the season opener, they have once again proven success from their farming system. They have preached how they invest into all of their draft picks and players who sign with their minor leagues.
Obviously, not everyone is going to make the final roster immediately. Michael Grove has made tremendous strides recently but will still start the season either in AA or AAA. It is a system that has not failed the Dodgers and they will continue to rely on it for years to come.

They used to show scrambled adult films late night and sometimes if we held down a certain combination of buttons on the corded channel selector you could make out a boob or bush every now and then. HBO and Take 2 (which eventually became Cinemax) were only on for around four or five hours at night. Ahhh - youth! GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Making progress in rehab Rotowire 2 HRS AGO Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters before Monday's spring game against the Angels that Hudson's knee responded better than it previously had after his most recent time on the mound, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.
Hudson is starting the 2023 season on the injured list because of his knee trouble, and the right-hander will remain at Camelback Ranch in Arizona rather than travel with the Dodgers for Opening Day. The right-hander could be an option for the Dodgers at some point in the middle of April and may be inline for save chances once he returns.
Dodgers' James Outman: Likely to get ample playing time Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Outman should play often with Chris Taylor expected to begin the regular season facing mostly left-handed pitchers, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Early this spring, Taylor was considered the favorite to be the Dodgers' primary center fielder, but his continued struggles to make contact during the exhibition slate along with a need for him to spend more time at shortstop due to Gavin Lux's season-ending knee injury has shifted that narrative. Outman is now likely to see the most starts in center among Los Angeles' various options, a role he has earned with an excellent showing this spring that includes a .300/.390/.600 slash line, three homers and 11 RBI. Meanwhile, Taylor appears lined up to play more of a platoon role against lefties, at least at the start of the season.
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Dominant in final spring start Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Kershaw tossed six scoreless innings in an exhibition contest against the Angels on Sunday, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out seven batters.
Kershaw breezed through six frames on just 74 pitches, and he stretched out even further by following the outing with a simulated inning in the bullpen, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. The veteran southpaw got Mike Trout to go down three times on swinging strikes and fanned Shohei Ohtani on another swing-and-miss. Kershaw finished the exhibition slate with a 3.44 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB over 18.1 innings. He's scheduled to make his first start of the regular-season April 1 at home against Arizona.

A world of talent, who so often got the job done, and his four years with the Dodgers, each year was better than the last one, and he just threw it in the sewer. I never got into drugs, so I wouldnt know if someone is high, but that's so interesting!

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Late-April return 'doable' Rotowire 4 HRS AGO Hudson (knee) returning by late April "seems doable," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told MLB.com Monday.
It looks to be a rough timetable at this point. Hudson's recovery from last June's ACL surgery has gone more slowly than anticipated and he will remain at extended spring training at the beginning of the season. Eventually, the reliever will go out on a rehab assignment before rejoining the Dodgers' bullpen. Hudson figures to be in the mix for saves at some point, but that could be a while.
Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Aiming for late-April return Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Gonsolin (ankle) is hopeful of rejoining the Dodgers' rotation in late April, according to MLB.com.
The right-hander threw a 20-25 pitch bullpen session Monday but is still "a ways away," manager Dave Roberts said afterward. Gonsolin does appear to be over his left ankle sprain at this point and it's now just about rebuilding his stamina. He'll surely need a rehab start or two before returning to the Dodgers in about a month.

Dodgers' Jimmy Nelson: Fires scoreless inning Rotowire 10 HRS AGO Nelson (elbow) threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout during Tuesday's exhibition game against the Angels, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
The strikeout was the first that Nelson has picked up this spring. The right-hander is going to open the 2023 season on the injured list, but it's encouraging to see him pitch well after struggling for most of the Cactus League. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters they'll evaluate Nelson on a week-to-week basis, so there's no timetable for when he'll be ready to contribute to the Dodgers' bullpen.
