But would he consider a position move. One that lengthens his career? Maybe it's a reality he may not fit. He would play LF, pretty simple. No actually, it's not so simple. First of all, he's a better CF than Taylor. Second, it's not so easy to move from CF to a corner OF, or vice versa. And third, if we do sign him, what do we do with Verdugo and Toles? You're probably shrugging your shoulders at that and will say "trade them". No dice, I'll pass on Harper. I don't worry about the Gnats signing him as long as Hunter Strickland is on the team. the Bronx zoo is always looking for new exhibits. I think the best bet is that he'll stay on the Nats.

I'd prefer to go down this road : Let's build a field where his position works for us. 1'st? Would CB move to 2'nd? Maybe BH could fit in as our 2'nd baseman; leaving CB at 1'st. Utley has 1 year left. Forsythe. Where will he be next year? LA? Somewhere else? JT staying with a short extended contract? I'd like to see if BH would accept a position change in order to extend his ability over time. As stated earlier here, we have plenty of outfielders. So Let's assemble a mock potential position roster. Then we can eliminate holes. My imagination : 1. CB 2. BH SS. CS 3. JT LF. Kemp/Toles CF. CT RF. YP C. YG/AB Bench :? This post gets the award for most ridiculous post of the year. Cody Bellinger and Bryce Harper as 2B? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And this gets 2nd prize. 2nd most ridiculous post of the year. 1- Harper has played most of his games at a corner OF spot. he is not a CFer. 2- And who cares what happens to Verdugo and Toles if you get one of the best players in the game. You don't even know what position Harper plays. LOL!! www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/harpebr03.shtml

No, I am not shrugging my shoulders and saying “trade him”. Verdugo could play RF if he pans out, because Puig is only under club control through next year. Toles isn’t good enough to factor in to the equation. So yes, it is very simple. If the FO doesnt pursue Harper it will be because they don’t want to spend the money, it will have nothing to do with Andrew Toles.

But I do say we should pass on him. Why you ask? Cos we don't have any holes in the OF. I like Harper as much as you do, and I'm not put off like some are about his temper. Harper's temper only flares if he's been violated, like Hunter Strickland found out the hard way last year. I just don't want to import a superstar when we don't need one. I can't stand the Stienbrenner mentality, to stack the team with superstars that come and go like a revolving door. If Mike Trout, the only player better than Harper, who I know is a CF becomes available, will you want him too? See where this goes? If we sign a FA next year, and that's a big IF, I say it should be a SP. Now, I'm well aware we have an outstanding rotation, with Walker Buehler waiting in the wings, and Mitch White on the way, but a weak link in the rotation can be a team's downfall more than a position player. I don't want to seem complacent, but our team is great just as it is.

I don't even know if I would sign Bryce to a 400M dollar deal if I was the GM of the Dodgers. I love his game and I would LOVE to have that dude in our outfield, but realistically he is probably not worth that much money and he is very injury prone. It's not my money, so I hope the Dodgers sign him, but I am assuming he's not coming so I won't be disappointed. I think the Dodgers reasoning for resetting the luxury tax was to be able to re-sign Kershaw and have flexibility. I don't think they are hell bent on Harper. I hope they're not because they'll be about 15-20 teams competing for his services, and I think the Nats and Yankees have the best chances of signing him. We might be able to sign a couple of other free agents that help our team just as much, if not more and don't cost as much.

We aren't the Steinbrenner Yankees if we sign a great player. That's absurd.
And who says we don't have any holes in the OF? Left field is not our strongest spot, and Puig may be gone after next year as well.

I hope they keep Puig. I know he hasn't lived up to his potential based on his flashy MLB start, but he is actually a damn good player. He has 25-30 HR power, he has learned to be a patient hitter, and he is a gold glove-caliber right fielder with probably the best arm in the majors. He also has speed and has improved his baserunning, and he has cut out the shenanigans. He is still animated, yes, but he plays the game the right way and has come a long way, IMO.
