Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Expected to begin season as closer Rotowire 14 HRS AGO Jansen is expected to serve as the Dodgers' Opening Day closer in 2021, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Jansen struggled during the postseason in 2020 and lost out on some save chances as a result, but manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that he expects the right-hander to begin the season as the team's closer. Jansen converted on 11 of his 13 chances and recorded a 3.33 ERA and 33:9 K:BB over 24.1 innings in 2020. If he struggles to begin the season, Blake Treinen and Brusdar Graterol could see some save chances for the Dodgers. Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Headed to spring camp Rotowire FEB 17, 2021 Amaya will attend the Dodgers' big-league camp this spring, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Amaya spent last season at the team's alternate training site after hitting a combined .260 with seven homers and 71 RBI across two levels in 2019. He has considerable defensive talent and a good eye at the plate but hasn't yet demonstrated an ability to hit for power. Well that's good and fine, but Roberts did'nt mention why Kenley's ERA has been over 3 for the past three years. Maybe his arm is'nt dead after all, but that his delivery has been faulty. We'll see as ST progresses. If he can't handle the closer job, WE have those others plus Knebel to step up if need be.

ONE more chance for Kenley. I don’t know what he has on Roberts - perhaps some “compromising position” photographs, but whatever it is, I’ve never seen Roberts this obsessed with trying to make something work that 99% of us know was broken four years ago after the Houston WS and isn’t repairable. The Vulture is done. Roberts just looks foolish awarding him the closer position before Spring Training has even gotten underway. I guess he thinks he’s untouchable now that he FINALLY secured a title. But let’s remember it was a significantly shorter season with a superior team that very easily could have been the bridesmaid once again had Snell pitched another inning. With the team as stacked as it is for 2021, another title is expected as it should be. But if DDF II insists on using Jansen as the closer, we could see more than our share of wins turning to blown saves and losses. GO DODGERS!!!

Yeah. I probably would have announced a competition for the closers' role in spring training. Everyone knows Kenley is going to be watched after last year's playoffs anyway. Dave wouldn't have been adding insult to injury. Dude is getting 20 million dollars. That would go a long way towards salving any hurt feelings I had.

He should be happy just to still be ON the team for twenty mil. And whatever his role is, whether mop up or bullpen catcher, suck it up and do that job. Daisy continues to show his stubbornness and stupidity before even the first pitch of the year is thrown. I don’t care how good the dude USED TO BE. He has regressed the last three and him simply being another year older doesn’t translate to his return to those glory years. We’ve been fed “his mechanics” BS for the last three years, along with his ticker, his medication and last year Covid. NONE of those have ANYTHING to do with the fact that the dude just doesn’t have closer stuff anymore. At nearly 60, I’m pretty sure I could still tag his low 90’s fastball knowing it has little to zero movement and is basically the only pitch he can throw for a strike. If I know that, then every player in MLB baseball knows that. It’s a shame that the ONE person that refuses to acknowledge that is managing this team. GO DODGERS!!!

This is stuff I know about. I take Norco, Gabapentin, Clonazepam & Benadryl. Wonder why I get so screwed up drinking. The first is for pain. Both knees & hips are supposed to be replaced. There's nothing that can be done about my back. The middle two are for seizures. The last is for allergies no one has been able to pinpoint. But the Benadryl works, so it has to be allergies. Take that cocktail sometime & time yourself. How long before you pass out. Golfers were found to be taking beta blockers. You have a million dollars riding on a putt. You sure don't want your hands to be shaking. My boss shuffled other bartenders in & out. Some left screaming. 200 guests to 1 bartender. or 2 in our case, because he always left me there just in case. 32 years of doing this & I can literally do it in my sleep. I know. I did. My boss would stand next to me as I raced around & never lost my cool or the smile on my face. I was outselling everyone else two to one. But closers MUST be adrenaline junkies by the very nature of their jobs. If you have a heart condition, any medication Kenley receives HAS to be to keep him out of stressful situations. I don't want his death on my hands. So take your medication. We really should have gone out & gotten someone better than Joe Kelly, if for nothing else than trips to Colorado. This is one of the few times Friedman missed the boat.

I don't want his death on my hands. So take your medication. We really should have gone out & gotten someone better than Joe Kelly, if for nothing else than trips to Colorado. This is one of the few times Friedman missed the boat. I railed against signing Kelly from the get-go. I thought the money and length were absurd for a dude with a lifetime ERA hovering around four. That is NOT the kind of number one expects from an “elite” closer. But then again, I had a major stiffy for Kimbrel and we have all seen how that has worked out. LA has a number of options that I think they should fully explore before assigning “titles” to anyone. We all saw what Urias did in the WS. And while they continue to tout him as a starter, this is another rhetoric we’ve been hearing since they brought him up. Why not just go ahead and put him in the best position to help the team? Remember Gangé was originally a starter that was converted to one of the best closers in the game. Sure - he was roiding - but so was just about everybody else at the time. We have more top line starters than any team in the league, so why continue to push Urias for that role? And if not him, Graterol looked nearly unhittable every time he came into a game. I think I remember one game that he got three outs on four pitches. It doesn’t get much more efficient than that. I used to love to see the Vulture come into games. He WAS this era’s Game Over. He HAD that eye of the tiger look every time he took the mound and there weren’t too many players that were happy to see him coming in because he usually made them look pretty foolish. But that Vulture flew the coop years ago and it’s time for Daisy to wake up and see that he ain’t coming back. GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Brandon Morrow: Healthy entering camp Rotowire 21 HRS AGO Morrow (elbow) is beginning spring training healthy, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
The 36-year-old is a non-roster invitee in camp after signing with the Dodgers in December, and manager Dave Roberts said the team plans to build him up as a "leverage reliever." Morrow has been sidelined by multiple arm issues over the past couple years and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2018 with the Cubs. He's been effective when healthy since becoming a full-time reliever in 2016 with a 1.79 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 98 appearances.
Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Moves to 60-day IL Rotowire 23 HRS AGO Ferguson (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Friday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Ferguson underwent Tommy John surgery in September and isn't expected to pitch in 2021, so it was only a matter of time before he was placed on the 60-day IL. Justin Turner was added to the 40-man roster in a corresponding move.

Holy frustrations! ST tickets went on sale at the stroke of 10AM MST. Glendale is half an hour away, and also there's the Cubs and A's here in Mesa, so right at the top of the hour I tried to purchase tickets and they're all sold out! What happened that the tickets were all snapped up so fast?

They KNOW they’ll be able to get just about whatever they want for resale because fans are STARVING to go to and see a live game. I’m guessing there is also going to be “capacity” limits both there as well as MLB stadiums until they get Covid under control, which may never happen. GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Could get more frequent rest Rotowire 7 HRS AGO Turner may see more down time in 2021, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Turner turned 36 in November and has missed time with injuries in each of the last four seasons, so it makes sense for Los Angeles to allot him a considerable number of off days in order to ensure his health for the team's annual postseason run. Manager Dave Roberts mentioned the desire to get Edwin Rios more opportunities at third base, and the apparent lack of a DH in the NL in 2021 means Turner won't be in the lineup most days when Rios plays, especially since Roberts also ruled out the possibility of Turner seeing time at first base.
Dodgers' Edwin Rios: In line for more playing time Rotowire 7 HRS AGO Rios will get more chances to play third base this season, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
The Dodgers re-signed Justin Turner last week, eliminating the possibility of Rios stepping into a starting position. The NL is not currently projected to play with a DH in 2021, which further diminishes Rios' opportunities for at-bats. However, manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Rios has earned more time at the hot corner and suggested that Turner could consequently be allotted more frequent rest. Rios performed well when called upon last season, smashing eight home runs in only 76 at-bats.

Justin Turner 3b 2 years/$34M (2021-22), plus 2023 option
2 years/$34M (2021-22), plus 2023 club option re-signed by LA Dodgers as a free agent 2/19/21 $8M signing bonus ($2M July 1, 2021 and each Jan. 15, 2024-26) 21:$8M, 22:$16M, 23:$16M club option ($2M buyout) 2023 option is guaranteed with a top 15 finish in 2022 MVP vote, including 10 or more points in the voting 2023 option increases by $1.5M for top 15 finish in 2022 MVP vote or by $2.5M for top 10 finish in 2022 MVP vote
The Dodgers are pretty safe about those bonuses if Justin is going to be a glorified part-time player. But why did he drag it out so long if he agrees with that role?
"and the apparent lack of a DH in the NL in 2021"
Well, it's only February 20th. No hurry to decide.

You're very likely right, cos I went to the sites of the two sorriest teams, the Orioles and Tigers, and found thier ST games are also sold out. I bet this continues into the regular season, seconds after tickets to individual games go on sale, and also get sold out.

I bet this continues into the regular season, seconds after tickets to individual games go on sale, and also get sold out. I don’t doubt for a New York minute that this will be true for most cities, especially if they continue with limited capacities. Even as bad as the local Redlegs have been the last couple of decades, they still regularly put 15 - 20 thousand butts in the seats. That would be well over 25% capacity of the 45,000 The GAB holds. And GOOD seats? Fuggetaboutit! That’s why I have always used the same broker here because they used to get my dugout seats from the same season ticket holders every year. Doubt we’ll ever sit there again with the absurd netting now extending beyond our aisle. I’m not sure how far down the baseline they go in the GAB, but they’re horrible to try to watch a game through if you’re as close to the field as we used to like to be. We went up to a Dayton Dragons game a couple of years ago and were around six or seven rows behind their dugout. We lasted all of two or three innings before our eyes started getting crossed and hurting. Ended up moving to the outfield pavilion which was net free. GO DODGERS!!!
