I didn't think they would ever sign Betts or anyone to such a long contract at that age, but not signing him would have felt like a waste. Friedman went all in.

He did go all-in... but would rather go all-in with this guy than any of the other guys I listed - except Trout. This was brilliance. He’s actually a safer long-term contract than Cody will be in IMO.

Dodgers surprisingly option super prospect Gavin Lux to minors Jeff Todd, MLB Trade Rumors 1 day ago The Dodgers have optioned talented young infielder Gavin Lux. Lux recently returned to summer camp after an unexplained absence. It’s not immediately clear why the Dodgers decided against carrying Lux to open the season. It had long been expected he’d be a key part of the roster after destroying upper-minors pitching in 2019 and holding his own over his MLB debut. That may still come to pass, but Lux will begin the year at the team’s alternate training site awaiting another call-up. There’s obviously some potential here for service-time implications for the 22-year-old. He logged only 28 days in the majors last year, so even a brief absence in a shortened season could leave him shy of a full year of service when the 2020 campaign wraps up. Lux obviously has nothing more to prove in the minors, so this decision surely isn’t about his development. With 30 active roster spots, there’s ample space to work with, though the Dodgers are surely committed to carrying loads of extra pitching. The uber-deep organization certainly has many viable candidates to cycle through at second base, where Lux had been the presumed option, though it’s still a bit difficult to imagine he truly fell short on a pure talent assessment. It’ll be interesting to see how the organization (and Lux himself) discuss the decision when reporters have a chance to pose some questions. It could be there’s some as-yet-unknown developmental or motivational prerogative, or perhaps the Dodgers feel Lux is just in need of further work after a layoff. Whatever the reasoning, the service implications are hard to ignore given that the team could stand to pick up an extra year of control on the back end. Not exactly clear is what what he Wrote? Lol Lux is comepetely lost right now... can’t field a ball and can’t hit.. watching fastballs down the middle go right by him without swinging. He was late to camp for some reason, maybe COVID, or something else. He’s not in shape yet to play MLB baseball. Isnt this common knowledge? What a terrible article.

Yeah. Thought of that too. What if a young stud like Walker Buehler or Cody Bellinger gets hurt playing in an abbreviated season that will always have an asterisk mark next to it anyway? We would be cursing all involved for their greed. Sure miss baseball though. Yes I agree as you well know my feelings about the DH. However, I should update that with Rob Manfred. Every time we turn around he's changing something or other. And what was it, back in February, that the team with the best record can pick their first round opponent? WHAT/ I've heard of stupid rules before, but the stupidest rule in baseball and out that I've heard of before this one seems pretty smart by comparison.
Back to the DH: The NL isn't going to win this battle, with every organized baseball league from little league all the way to the AL, not to mention the Dominican Republic, Japan and Korea and elsewhere use the DH so it's time for us purists to throw in the towel and accept the rule. We've been fighting it since 1973 and we should be glad that baseball, even with 10 players instead of 9, will be starting again soon! Great comment about the DH. The pitcher hitter is a thing of the past, we will never see it again. I am actually done with it now, I changed my mind just this month. Automatic outs suck, and so does bunting. Yeah, sometimes we get a lucky hit and a thrill .. but the game is just slowed down by pitcher hitting. There is really no bunting strategy NywY. Here’s a fun “fact” . Dodgers led MLB in sac bunts in 2019. They had 55. EVERY SINGLE ONE was by a Pitcher. That’s remarkable to me. so- depending on who is up in bottom of 10th in a tie game... runner is placed on 2nd.... I guess it depends on who is up but is there a chance Kersh goes up to bunt the guy to 2nd.... and if he does then do they walk him? Hmmm.. interesting.

Hi folks.... I’m back. I CANNOT WAIT until tomorrow. Finally we are back to baseball , and with greatest team in the history of the Dodgers. A lot can go wrong with COVID, injuries and all, but I feel this is our year more than ever. Team is downright dangerous. Mookie signing is pure brilliance - I don’t really care about the years even though they seem like too much. They will work that out. Consider who we could have had instead - Harper.... Machado .... Rendon.... Lol. Instead we hold out and hit the jackpot. Mookie is top 5 in all of baseball, as is Cody. Obviously this limits our signings in future. Cody has to be paid, Buehler will have to be paid in a while. Seems the odd man out will be Corey and that does bother me a bit. I see him having a monster year this short season. I want to see JT get a title badly, he’s been an all time great Dodger, this will be his last season with us 😥 :-( Nice to see you're back bulldog. I was starting to wonder if the COVID had gotten you in NY. Glad it didn't. Have to agree that this looks to be the most talented hitting team in Dodger history. Starting pitching is deep but other than Buehler I think it lacks a Koufax, Drysdale one two punch and who knows if the former Predator (chopped off his dreds now) can be that lights out closer. Other than that this team is great and I'm sure there isn't a team that is as stacked other than the Yanks. Disagree about not caring about the number of years Betts got. I know that might be the going rate for a star hitter but man he'll have 5 to 6 more years past age 33/34. I guess Andy F figures he might not be around as GM in 8, 10, 12 years from now. I do care about the years but I guess it was a necessary evil. I'm not sure this will be JT's last year with the team he might be brought back on a Chase Utley, David Freese type of deal because some of the options might not be ready to take over 3B full time. Edwin Rios seems a little shaky there and might need more reps, Muncy? Oh hell no, Beaty more than likely not at all, and Hoese and Vargas years away.

Dodgers announce 30-man Opening Day roster
Pinch runner Terrance Gore and reliever Dennis Santana nab the final two spots
By J.P. HOORNSTRA | jhoornstra@scng.com | Daily News
PUBLISHED: July 23, 2020 at 10:52 a.m. | UPDATED: July 23, 2020 at 11:15 a.m.
The Dodgers announced their 30-man Opening Day roster Thursday. Pinch running specialist Terrance Gore nabbed a spot. So did pitcher Dennis Santana, who beat out a pair of veteran right-handers for a spot in the bullpen.
Gore, Santana and others face a new crunch in two weeks, when rosters must be reduced to 28. With spring training postponed nearly three months due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, teams were granted additional roster spots for the early weeks of the 60-game regular season. Rosters must be reduced to 26 four weeks from today.
For now, the Dodgers will have 16 pitchers and 14 position players at their disposal for their series against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium. The opener, scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Players who did not make the Opening Day cut have no minor league games to play. Rather, they will work out at the Dodgers’ “alternate training site” camp at USC with other minor leaguers. That group includes AJ Ramos, the former Marlins closer who signed a minor-league deal in July and Edubray Ramos, another non-roster invitee who appeared in 173 games for the Phillies from 2016-19.
The final bullpen job went to Santana, 24, who has struggled in his brief major league career. With the Dodgers, Santana has allowed nine runs in 8 ⅔ innings over the last two seasons. But he turned a corner after moving to the bullpen at Triple-A last season, limiting opponents to a .211 batting average and only two home runs.
Gore, 29, has more stolen bases (40) than hits (15) in his unique career. He parlayed his speed into postseason jobs with the Royals, then the Cubs, after spending most of the season in the minor leagues. He’s made 61 career appearances as a pinch runner and didn’t crack a major league starting lineup until last season.
With the Dodgers, Gore’s role figures to be similar. They have the reigning National League MVP, Cody Bellinger, in center field. They have Mookie Betts in right field for the next 12 years. Joc Pederson and AJ Pollock are unlikely to be displaced in left field.
Gore might have gotten a boost from a rule that will place a runner on second base to begin the 10th inning of tie games. The rule is ostensibly designed to prevent marathon extra-inning games in a sprint of a regular season with few days off.
Right-hander Dustin May will begin the season at the USC camp after making an impressive roster bid of his own. He figures to be the team’s sixth starter behind Clayton Kershaw, Ross Stripling, Julio Urías, Alex Wood and Walker Buehler. Manager Dave Roberts said it’s possible May will piggyback Buehler’s start against the Astros next Tuesday in Houston.
Besides Santana, the rest of the Dodgers’ bullpen includes right-handers Kenley Jansen, Blake Treinen, Joe Kelly, Brusdar Graterol, Pedro Baez and Dylan Floro, and left-handers Jake McGee, Caleb Ferguson, Scott Alexander and Adam Kolarek.
Besides Gore, the Dodgers’ Opening Day position players include Bellinger, Betts, Pederson, Pollock, Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, Matt Beaty, Kiké Hernandez, Edwin Rios, Will Smith and Austin Barnes.

I think Urias or Wood gets the start tonight then.
I was about to say that even though I am ecstatic about Opening Day/Night it's obvious the Dodgers will demolish the Gnats. Wouldn't it have been grand if MLB had scheduled the freakin' Asstros to open with.
