For all the analytical mumbo jumbo and progressive blah blah blah this administration and management group is being really stubborn about the Predator. If only they had options. I hoped May or Urias might be the guy to push Kenley out of that spot. Didn't happen. Then maybe Maeda could. He got shelled. We could have traded Gavin Lux for a child molester. Luckily the Pirates were greedy. This really should have been addressed before the season started. I was PISSED we didn't go after Ottavino & instead valued Kelly over Adam. Friedman seems to have one blind spot & that's relief pitching.

I wouldn’t call Choi’s hit a “blast”, JR.
More of a bloop line drive that landed in front of the left fielder.
Anyway, we agree that he should have gotten out of it. He did get robbed though.
He’s given up 4 hits this month, there is some good in his game right now. I try and stay positive.

If he hadn’t given up a solid single and then walked a guy, that “bloop” would have been meaningless. And the pitch itself with a 1 - 2 count looked like something you might see at a softball game. As it turned out, a run scored and they ended up with runners on second and third. He is done, IMHO and has been since the Houston WS. I admire your positivity and hope you and the Vulture prove me wrong. But I give that about as much a chance as my Phins winning the Super Bowl this year. GO DODGERS!!!

Another stellar performance by the Vulture. Can’t even throw a clean inning in a low to no pressure situation against a team we have dominated at home all season.
Thankfully, we had a four run lead this time. Dude is toast - toast I say.
GO DODGERS!!!

He needs to stay in the bullpen or we won't beat the wild card team the first round. A new closer is priority #1 this winter, way more than our #2 priority, Anthony Rendon as our 3Bman.

You’re tough, dude. He has given up 6 hits this month. Working things out hopefully, Along with three walks, two stolen bases and a blown save. All in eight games. Not quite “the next Mariano Rivera” more than a few experts were quick to label him as. His ERA in August was five. Nearly 5.7 in July. He’s dropped it to just under 3.7 this month, but there’s still another week to go. His inconsistencies are troubling and if he is to continue as our primary closer, as Doc has stated, we’re either going to need to put six or seven runs on the board EVERY game in October or get more than a few complete games out of our starters. Neither of those is very realistic against our potential opponents in both the playoffs and World Series. I have to agree with other posters here that this should have been addressed in the off season, especially after what we saw from him in 2018. His continued decline in 2019 makes that even more apparent. GO DODGERS!!!

Right, his WHIP this month is 1.08. That's better than the month before thankfully. He's not great any more but he's the best we've got. He's better than Kimbrel, better than Doolittle. better than Martinez, better than Melancon, not better than Hader. Those are the possible playoff teams in NL.

Kimbrel September stats:
3 G 2.1 IP 5 H 2 BB 4 HR allowed 6 ER 3.00 WHIP 23.14 ERA
He's a big reason why the Cubs are done.

He'll be his old dominant self one game, and the next he'll blow a save and the game. He's also not better than Ken Giles.

Not sure why Ken Giles is relevant to the discussion but I'm not disagreeing with any of this about Jansen. He isn't as reliable as he once was, that is certain.
The reality is that we are still better off with Jansen than any of the other playoff teams in the NL other than Milwaukee. And guys also clamored for Kimbrel who has been just plain awful. Thankfully they didn't go in that direction in June. whew...

Kimbrel September stats: 3 G 2.1 IP 5 H 2 BB 4 HR allowed 6 ER 3.00 WHIP 23.14 ERA He's a big reason why the Cubs are done. Ouch! And I was one of his biggest cheerleaders. I just thought he was “the one” we missed out on and I have to wonder if his poor performance has been due to missing all of Spring Training as well as half of the year. I thinks he’s also been pitching hurt most of his brief time in Chicago and again, I think that leads back to his conditioning and lack of reps those first four or five months of the year. Whatever the reason - we DEF dodged another bullet with him and the kid from Pittsburgh. But putting all of our eggs in the Vulture’s basket when there ARE other options is just downright absurd and despite his possible opponent matchups, we haven’t seen them in postseason like we have Kenley the last two years. They may suck, or they may actually bear down and do their jobs. If it comes down to us versus the Yankees, there’s not likely a person on earth that would take the current Jansen over Chapman. The Jansen from 2016? Definitely. The one since the Houston WS? I don’t think so. GO DODGERS!!!

I did'nt notice those other closers are on other playoff teams.
