Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Nabs 29th save
Rotowire 5H ago
Jansen got the save against the Orioles on Thursday, tossing a scoreless ninth inning without allowing a baserunner to close out the Dodgers' 4-2 victory. He struck out one and walked none.
The right-hander needed 18 pitches to set down the side in order and successfully protect a two-run lead for his 29th save of the season. Jansen's 3.72 ERA over 55.2 innings remains uncharacteristically high, but he figures to maintain his role as the primary ninth-inning option for the Dodgers through the rest of the season.

And he STILL has no “put away” pitch. Was 0 - 2 on the first two batters he faced before going to full counts on both. And the three balls he threw to both were nowhere near the strike zone. Gonna be an interesting October, that’s for certain! GO DODGERS!!!

Some people may remember this other obscure Japanese import the Dodgers converted from a starter to a reliever. www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=saito-001takHe went from a 3.82 ERA & 1.32 WHIP in JAPAN to a 2.07 ERA & 0.91 WHIP in the big leagues. Keep yammering, sportswriters. How many of these highly touted (& grossly overpaid) Japanese players have lived up to the hype? Remember the Dodgers scouting this guy? www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kikucyu01.shtmlA 5.24 ERA & 1.47 WHIP. Maybe he should go to the pen. You utilize your players in the best way to help the TEAM. Bonuses are something negotiated by the team & the player's agent. Not some pudgy wannabe in the backroom of a dying industry.

Saito was the 💩. Ox would come in for the eighth (where he was FAR more dominant than when they moved him to closer) followed by Saito and you KNEW the game was over. Took me back to the (enhanced) original “Game Over” Gagne. What’s he do - 53 saves in a row that one year? Even with the roids, that’s still effin impressive. GO DODGERS!!!

The Dodgers are just ahead of Houston in bullpen ERA at 3.87. That ranks 4th. They're 27th in innings pitched because of their starters. They shouldn't be burnt out come October. They have 25 blown saves. That's 8th worst. It's in 63 opportunities. That's 9th. That gives them a 60% success ratio. That's 19th. Among teams with winning records, the Cubs, A's, Mets, Nationals & Red Sox are worse. Some of those teams are barely above .500 though.

My only hope is the offense continues to rake and get up big leads so even if the pen falters, which I have no doubt they will, it doesn’t cost us games. These guys have played too well to not finally come through this year. Our starters match up with or exceed ALL of our postseason opponents. The bats will need to be better than they were last year but hopefully with that experience they will have matured and not go up there hacking for the fence and work / use the pitch counts to their favour. GO DODGERS!!!

Do I even need to say anything? Ryu has his best game in a month and our “ever dependable pen” blows yet another one.
Kelly can’t help but keep his lifetime ERA at 4.5. One out; one run. Not good. Julio gets one out, but gives up two more. Even worse.
GO DODGERS!!!

I'm trying to follow from work. Did Kelly give up a run? Or Urias gave up all three and one was charged to Joe?

Julio enters, hits his first batter with a pitch, walks the next to load the bases and then gives up a bases clearing double. You know - the usual! GO DODGERS!!!

That was what the box score looked like. Urias has me worried.

And speaking of, we've been on something of a power outage the past few weeks, though we did score 9 the other nite. We better turn that around if we want to be in the fall classic again.
