Road to Perdition is going off. Tom Hanks is about to get shot. Paul Newman's character was based on John Looney of Rock Island, Illinois.
Yeah. This sick puppy hitman is taking Mike Sullivan's picture now.

I just watched The Pianist for the first time. It drags at points, but has a good plot. It's sad Adrian Brody's character couldn't save that German officer at the end.

Caught Clint Eastwood’s latest “Cry Macho” the other night which he starred in and directed at 90. Damn - I hope I still know my own name by 90!
Not epic, like Unforgiven, but still a decent little film about friendship and trust between a 15 year old punk and the old man sent to Mexico to retrieve the kid from his abusive mother and her ever changing male partners.
Clint plays an old, oft injured retired rodeo man who is fired and then a year later hired by his old boss (Dwight Yoakum) to go south and retrieve his son.
There’s the usual and expected corrupt police and federales to deal with, along with the kid himself, who in time learns to respect and even like the old man.
Clint even gets some saddle time - again, I’m not sure I’d even be able to get up ON a horse at 90, let alone RIDE one.
A conflict of trust almost ruins the odd couples friendship, but in the end the kid and old man part as friends.

Who else is sick of the Will Smith / Chris Rock hoopla? Chris told a very unfunny joke. I mean, if you can pull off a good laugh, go for it. But that was just something he dropped in there that didn't have the audience rolling or anything. Smith laughed at first & then saw his wife was genuinely hurt. He obviously overreacted. He slapped the snot out of Rock. He later issued a public apology. Rock never apologized.
There's talk of the Academy banning Smith forever. Of taking away his Oscar. He hasn't called & personally apologized to Rock for insulting his wife. I guess he's supposed to kowtow down on his knees & beg for forgiveness. Still, the Sensitivity Police would say that's not good enough. You're a barbarian!
You know what can solve this? Rock & Smith appearing together shaking hands. Smith apologizes again. Rock says he's sorry if he hurt Jada's feelings. Then we just ignore the pussies who are blowing this out of proportion. Say your wife has a disease that makes her bald. You're at a cocktail party & some court jester / wisecracker makes a GI Jane joke at her expense. Wouldn't you want to slap the snot out of him?

Will Smith has resigned from the Academy. They say there may be further consequences.
Fuck them. Have Rock & Smith get together & they can apologize to each other. It's really as simple as that.

Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt & James Gandolfini just finished up. I was surprised Pitt was able to pull off a wiseguy role so well. He played a hit man. Good flick. Three snaps up.

So Smith got banned from the Academy for ten years. Really, who cares? I've seen movies that do so well at the Oscars & they suck. I've seen movies lampooned by critics that I loved. Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid was lampooned. Now it's considered a national treasure.
Smith should feel relieved he doesn't have to sit through that shit.

Watching King Richard right now. Either they aren't portraying the racist I remember, or Richard's racism was overblown. I thought Serena getting romantically involved with her white trainer was sort of a subconscious stab at her father.

Wonder Boys is on. I've never seen this before. It has Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Robert Downey Jr. & Rip Torn in it. Pretty entertaining so far. It's college life, for both faculty & students. The main thing I've taken from it so far is how bad I've gotten. Maguire & Douglas took prescription strength codeine with alcohol. Douglas passed out. Maguire lost control. I'm drinking straight vodka, after taking both Norco & Valium. Still here.

That wound up being a pretty good movie.
Then I watched the second half of King Richard again.
