"Yu Darvish, Cubs, 0-3, 5.56 ERA, 74 ERA+" More sterling reporting from The Times. That article is dated May 21st. On May 20th Darvish turned in his second consecutive impressive performance & his ERA is now 4.95. I won't EVEN bother fact checking the rest of that hack's article. Btw - he got the win too. 1-3. And, of course, it was against the Reds. Probably should have resigned him. Might have avoided that embarrassing sweep a couple of weeks ago. GO DODGERS!!!

ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays' pitching rotation for the weekend series against the Orioles could have a familiar look: Romo, Romo, Romo.
Manager Kevin Cash said using veteran right-handed reliever Sergio Romo as the "opener" in all three upcoming games against the righty-heavy Orioles was a possibility as the Rays sort out their plans after Tuesday's injury to RHP Jake Faria, who could be out until August.
"I don't know what we're going to do quite yet,'' Cash said. "I would imagine we'll be revisiting Sergio starting again. Maybe he'll start all three games, who knows?''
Romo might be used to getting the first three-six outs, as he was over the weekend in Anaheim. Even if he is, the Rays will plan for LHP Ryan Yarbrough to work the bulk of the innings Friday, LHP Anthony Banda on Saturday and RHP Austin Pruitt on Sunday.

Anyone mention Zach Lee yet? The Dodgers invited Lee to spring training again in 2016. He contended for the fifth starter spot on the major league club during spring training but was beat out by Ross Stripling and optioned back to AAA. In 13 starts, he was 7–5 with a 4.89 ERA for Oklahoma City. He also spent three days on the major league roster in April but never appeared in a game. Seattle Mariners On June 19, 2016, Lee was traded to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Chris Taylor (thank God). In 14 starts for the AAA Tacoma Rainiers he was 0–9 with a 7.74 ERA. San Diego Padres On December 13, 2016, Lee was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres. He recorded his first major league victory on April 12 against the Colorado Rockies. He was designated for assignment on June 19, and was released from the Padres organization on August 14, 2017. Tampa Bay Rays On March 16, 2018, Lee signed a minor-league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He's in AA for Tampa. www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/leeza01.shtmlGreat ERA. Unimpressive WHIP & K's per 9 innings. 26 years old now.

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Sent for MRI 2D AGO • By RotoWire Staff Darvish (triceps) will be sent for an MRI on Tuesday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports. Manager Joe Maddon said he's not overly concerned after talking to Darvish, saying the problem "didn't sound awful." Darvish landed on the disabled list Saturday with right triceps tendinitis, which carries with it a pretty wide open timetable. He could theoretically return June 2 on the road against the Mets, but a more reliable timetable should be forthcoming when the MRI results are revealed.

I really wanted to like that guy. He's not mean or anything like that. Not some psycho wife beater like Milton Bradley. He's just a wuss.

J.P. Howell Joins Indy Ball Team By Jeff Todd | May 29, 2018 at 2:03pm CDT
Former MLB lefty J.P. Howell has joined the independent league San Rafael Pacifics, as John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Those interested in an enjoyable story will certainly want to give the article a full read.
Howell’s new team is a member of the Pacific Association. While that’s not traditionally the top circuit for players looking to catch the eye of MLB scouts, it’s close to home for the veteran hurler. Howell, who has a dozen years of experience at the game’s highest level, says he’s keen to enjoy the experience but also still hopes to make it back to the big leagues.
Last year, Howell appeared in 16 games with the Blue Jays, but he struggled while dealing with shoulder problems. It wasn’t long ago, though, that he was a productive member of the Dodgers’ bullpen. Prior to that point, he reached the majors with the Royals and spent six campaigns with the Rays. All told, he has accumulated 619 2/3 innings of 3.83 ERA ball in the majors.
Howell intends to work as a starter with the Pacifics, though it’s not clear that he’s necessarily pursuing a dedicated return to the rotation as part of a strategy for a MLB re-run. The 35-year-old, who broke into the majors as a starter, simply tells Shea: “The more reps the better.”
