Mad Maxine got lit up again tonight by the Yanks. ERA now up to nearly four and a half. I wonder how long before he starts whining about his “dead arm”? GO DODGERS!!! We had to muddle through with Tyler Anderson (15-5 / 2.57 ERA & 1.00 WHIP) for 8 million dollars in 2022. LA LOVES those reclamation projects and he was a great one. Not sure how he’s doing this year, but resigning him certainly would have been a better option than Thor. I wonder how his “reset” is going? GO DODGERS!!!

Trevor Bauer seems to have found his niche in Japan. He started off slow, giving up seven runs two games in a row in early May, but appears to have righted the ship giving up two or fewer runs since.
Last night, he allowed one run in eight innings while striking out twelve.
He and his “image” were too controversial for the squeaky clean Dodgers ownership and management.
But at least we have the Sisters to look forward to this weekend!

Whatever magic the Dodgers found, wore off fast in Anaheim.

In the meantime, our old buddy Joey K gives up a sharp single to Mookie and surrenders the lead to LA in the sixth. Turned around and made JD look VERY bad swinging at pitches nowhere near the zone and then got Peralta to ground out. Certainly could have used a couple / few more runs with bases loaded and only one out, especially with our pen. Fruit salad in now and Scooter warming up. YIKES!!! GO DODGERS!!!

Cody Bellinger is batting .252-7-22 / .319 / .454. A 107 OPS+. About league average. He's struck out 38 times in 185 plate appearances. 21%. Last year was 150 in 550. 27%. So that's a marked improvement. He's also missed 31 games. 42% of the schedule.
Remember, at his height in 2019, he hit .305-47-115 / .406 / .629 w/ just 108 K's in 661 plate appearances. He played in 156 games. His OPS+ was 167. He led the league with 351 total bases. He was just 23 years old.

He’s still pretty young, but I doubt he’ll ever get back to his ROY / MVP production levels. From stupid celebration injuries to position changes to annual “tweaking” of his batting stance, Bells just lost his way and his superstar / lottery contract. Shame - but I still like the dude and think he would be a good hang. If the baby bears don’t re-sign him (which looks doubtful), does LA welcome him back? He’s certainly as good, if not better than most of the guys we have in the OF this year (sans Mookie, of course). I’d guess it’ll depend on how much interest there is from other suitors. But he’s definitely worth a re-look if you ask me. GO DODGERS!!!

Our old mercenary buddy Zach Greinke is now 1 - 9 with an ERA over five this year after losing to another former Dodger Maeda, who is only 2 - 5 with an ERA close to six himself.
Of course, they both play for pretty meh teams (Royals & Twinkies).

He would say things that were completely inappropriate & I would just chuckle. He sure knew how to pitch.

And unlike some of these guys who will say one thing and then do another, Zack made it pretty clear that he was “available to the highest bidder”.
He left LA for a pretty bad AZ team and now is probably going out with a really bad Royals team, despite their play against us last week.

How many years do we have left to tell children the tale of Carlos Correa? 13 years & 350 million dollars. He's proud to be a Giant. 12 years & 315 million dollars with the Mets. He's proud to be a Met. 6 years & 200 million dollars to re-sign with the Twins. He's glad he got to stay home. Yeah. It's always about the city, teams' rich tradition, the organization, good schools for their kids. Greinke would flat out tell you the other guy offered a dollar more. That was SUCH a stupid deal for the Angels. One of many for Arte Moreno. I recounted all Moreno's blunders on the MLB board once & Hunteralan was like - WHAT?! He hadn't put it all together. Signing Albert Pujols till his mid-40's. That was 242 million dollars. Trading Kendrys Morales for Jason Vargas to make up for the loss of Greinke. Kendrys had some good years left. Trading Mike Napoli for Vernon Wells. Then Toronto flipped Napoli to the Rangers. Mike torched the Halos. Lying to Torii Hunter. We don't have enough money to keep you. Sorry. Turning around & giving 125 million dollars to a crack addict in Josh Hamilton. Trading Jean Segura to get Greinke. Then letting the Dodgers outbid him for Zack's services. Trading Howie Kendrick for Andrew Heaney. Moreno couldn't have destroyed that team better if he had used a wrecking ball. And now Trout has wasted a great career on a perennial loser.

We have to wonder if he’ll do the same thing with O. I would imagine he just might have to because despite that “desire to win”, the lottery money contracts that are going to be offered are only going to come from a few teams.
Both the NY teams are struggling, despite their payrolls and superstar rosters.
Same goes for San Diego, although I doubt they would even be in a position to offer with the glut of high dollar contracts they already have.
The baby bears? A long shot.
So, that pretty much leaves LA & Anaheim. Trouts broken hand certainly puts the Angels 2023 season in jeopardy, so we’ll have to see if they can hang without him and still make the postseason.
Despite our woes this year, we remain one of the top contenders in the league and our participation in October the last decade, despite the end results, has not been matched by any other team.
But is one player even as unicorn as O worth going all in on a team with SIGNIFICANT other needs?
We cannot continue to have four or five every day players hitting in the low .200’s. Our pen has been a mess since Opening Day.
If we lose Eew to free agency and Kersh either retires or moves to Texas, one star pitcher doesn’t replace two. We get Ferris back, but lose Carrottop for another year, if not permanently.
This off-season will be interesting, to say the least!

Bells on a little bit of a tear lately with an 11 game hitting streak with only four K’s in his last 41 AB’s and a .415 BA.
Chi town ganj must be better than SoCal, although I can’t imagine how!
The original Vulture Jansen picked up his 18th save today as well.

Bells 4 - 4 today, coming up a triple short of the cycle. Hitting streak now at twelve and his average during the streak is up to .429.
How much did we give to CT3 and for how many years? We lost Seager by keeping Bells - that worked out well.
We let Bells and Rusty walk to keep Taylor and Muncy. We signed a washed up Thor who’s fastball was topping out in the high EIGHTIES.
Is Fraudman losing it or is someone else making the calls? This past off-season was nothing short of meh.
Change is needed and needed soon. Complacency is not an option.

Brandon Gomes might have some input. They put 'GENERAL MANAGER' on his door. But don't forget we got Freeman for $162,000,000. Common sense would have dictated giving Tyler Anderson at least three years & $39,000,000. The Dodgers picked Evan Phillips off waivers. So Cody DID need to see his life flash before his eyes before he woke up. I hate the arbitration system.
