We all know this is Kershaw's option year. Just a year ago, when he was in serious contention for his 4th Cy Young, I was worried he'd opt out after this season, but now, I'm thinking it might be the right thing for him to do. He's become injury prone, and he's lost velocity over the past three seasons. He's not blowing hitters away as he's done since we drafted him, though he can still get them out with finesse. He might be re-inventing himself. His ERA is now 2.73, certainly nothing to get alarmed about, but it's his highest since his first full season and his ERA for September was 3.89. He's allowing homers at a very un-Kershaw rate and he's gotten pretty inconsistent. We don't know which Kershaw will take the mound. I used to have a great feeling when it was his turn to start, but now I almost cringe. I'm tempted to say that he's become the week link in the rotation. He's an overhand pitcher, which is a very un-natural motion and it's a real wonder his arm hasn't been injured yet. Sandy Koufax's arm woes can be blamed on Walter Alston, who used to have him start often with but two days rest and it's a wonder he lasted till he was also 30. I fear Kershaw will have arm trouble in the not-too-distant future.
So who'd take his place in next year's rotation? Urias, maybe Ferguson? Or we could deal for a great starter. Our Dodgers have had great rotations dating back to the 40s, so I'm not worried, but I do feel bad for Kershaw.

"Fading Fast"... Lol.
2.73 ERA 1.04 WHIP
He's not what he was but he's still pretty damn good, the numbers don't lie. And his HR rate was down this year, you have that part wrong. Anyway, does he opt out of 71 mill for 2 years? Possible, but a little hard to imagine him getting $200 million for 6 when he'll be 31 at the start of next season. I also wonder how much his legacy here really means to him , we'll find out.

I heard during one of the ESPN games last week that Koufax once pitched a 13 inning game and threw over 200 pitches in it. That seems unfathomable by today’s standards.
It’s no wonder him arm was shot by the time he reached an age where most pitchers are hitting their prime. Although still one of the all time greats, it’s hard to imagine just how good he could have been.

He and Ryu should headline the rotation next year. Ryu has been pretty solid in big games as a Dodger. I'd say in 2019: 1. Buehler 2. Ryu 3. Kershaw If Kershaw opts out, let him walk.

HE’S BAACK!!! GO DODGERS!!! I have to admit, I was very impressed with his performance tonite. He's clearly reinvented himself. He no longer blows hitters away, since he yielded but two hits and as many Ks. He won't win another Cy Young, and now he's a #2 pitcher in the rotation at best, but as a veteren, he can mentor young pitchers like Buehler and Ferguson. His next start will be against the Brewers.

If Clayton can reinvent himself I'd be willing to extend him. He might have showed a willingness last night. My concern with him is he's competitive to the point of being stubborn. Last night showed he has the potential to be a Greg Maddux type. There's still the injury concerns though. Maybe four years & 100 million dollars guaranteed with incentives for starts made. If Yu Darvish is worth $126,000,000 to some putz, then Clayton is surely worth 100 million dollars. Maybe he makes $125,000,000 if he reaches those goals. It would replace what he already has. Not in addition to.
If he makes 28 starts in the last year, & 55 over the last two years, tack on an option year for him. His call.

I’m beginning to think Doc is a genius (with the exception of his continued insistence of batting Puig ANYWHERE but in the eight spot).
His naming of Ryu as the series starter was flat out brilliant. It took ALL of the “first game” pressure off of Kersh and although he would never admit it, I think it pissed Kersh off.
Not to mention Ryu was one of the best in the league during the month of September and started October the same.
It will be interesting to see what he does this next series but if were me, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Hey Jr, for me I want Puig in the Lineuo batting up in the order vs. RHP. He has been tremendous against righties this year, and the standard lineup vs. righties is working. I say leave it the way it is, we are doing well.
Keke is doing even better than Puig batting 8th. Leave him there. Yaisel is just fine batting 7th. Just my opinion.

Just my opinion. 👍 I don’t pretend to begin to know what Puig’s average against righties higher up in the order is. But so far, he’s 1 - 7 with a walk batting seventh in the first game and fifth last night. Not the kind of production I’d call stellar, but then again, it’s only been two games. But I do remember the guy raking in the eight hole pretty much all season versus righties and lefties, finishing at at .343 average for 2018. He’s not much above .200 in most of the rest of the order. And again, even though the entire offense sucked in the World Series against Houston last year, he led the team with an abysmal.148. I don’t believe Doc batted him eighth once in that series. I still like the guy a lot and hope Doc & Puig make me eat my words. I guess I’m still of the old school “if it ain’t broke, don’t screw with it” culture. Pretty sure Ferris completes the sweep tomorrow night. Looking forward to celebrating after seeing my Phins whup up on the Bungles. Second row end zone seats - hoping for a ball. Have dozens of MLB foul and tossed balls. Would LOVE an NFL football for my collection. GO DODGERS!!!

Ok, don't want to make a big deal out of this but Puig numbers vs. lefties are pathetic the last 2 years. You're are 100% right, he has been good batting 8th but Keke has been even better. And Puig has done well in the 7 hole.
Well Over .700 baseball for the last 6 weeks. Stay the course, no reason to change.
Let's sweep! We both agree on that I'm sure! 😃
