Four Dodgers of the top ten candidates. Now THAT’S impressive! I think Ryu is pretty much a lock if he continues to throw like he has all season and can stay off the IL the rest of the year. Hard to imagine how many W’s this team would have had they converted more of their 30 save opportunities into wins. We could be looking at an all time MLB record. GO DODGERS!!! Why do you suppose Max Scherzer is nowhere to be found in the top 10? His numbers are better than everyone on there except Ryu. Very odd - especially with his K’s leading all candidates by a pretty large margin, with exception to deGrom. His K to BB ratio is also outstanding. Not sure why he’s not on this list. Perhaps a typographical error of some sort? GO DODGERS!!!

According to the ESPN stats the Dodgers have had 50 save opportunities with 19 blown saves. They could easily have the same record as they did in 2017 if 9 of the blown saves were wins.

I had a brain fart when I typed 30 instead of 50, but I definitely get it. And there had to be at least another double digit games that we came back in only to fall a run or two short after the pen failed to hold the score after our starter was removed. I remember quite a few of those early in the season with Kelly being involved and Yimini with his incessantly poor habit of one pitch moon shots. GO DODGERS!!!

OK everyone I guess I was wrong to start this thread! Clayton is definitly not the dominant pitcher he used to be but has reinvented himself and now gets batters out with more finesse. He pitches more with his head than he used to. His ERA used to annually be sub-2 but is now in the 2.6 range, still great. It took him awhile to adapt to this new approach, but now he'd be the ace on about 24 other teams.

Certain number of points for wins, points lost for losses, points added for first place teams, etc. Strikeouts aren't in that formula, it's not perfect but a decent guide.
Cy Young Points (CYP) = ((5*IP/9)-ER) + (SO/12) + (SV*2.5) + Shutouts + ((W*6)-(L*2)) + VB (see below). VB: Victory Bonus is a 12-point bonus awarded for leading your team to the division championship

That's not accurate. More than a few of those blown saves ended up being wins anyway.

I remember two games (in a row or at least within a day or two) that Kenley “vultured” wins out of after blowing the save. I’d never heard that term used and found it comical but obviously true and a good usage of how he ended up with both a BS & W. GO DODGERS!!!

If Kershaw is “fading fast”, then Jansen has completely disappeared. Dude is toast; stick a fork in him; the fat lady is singing - pick a metaphor, any metaphor.
Relegate him to mop up or sunflower seed collector. Thing is - we’re on the hook for him for another year as there is NO CHANCE in this world he opts out in 2020 with the way he has thrown and what LA has him signed for.
GO DODGERS!!!

He’s not what he was but he was fine yesterday.
We will need a new closer soon. He’s near the end, I agree.

I agree he's not opting out and if he doesn't the team is on the hook for 2 more years, until the end of the 2021 season. I hope there is a resurgence in October for him. Maybe if he gets the adrenaline going with the games meaning that much more.

He and Yimini can compete for most HR’s surrendered in the seventh and eighth innings. Now THAT will be an interesting competition. GO DODGERS!!!
