Gotta give the kid props - looks like he wants to be one of a dying breed and spend his entire career with one team.
And while he did get another year added (which was a complete surprise - I figured he’d be looking to add at least three or four), he took a small cut to do so, going from a guaranteed $32.5 mil over the next two to $31 mil over the next three.
At 33, should he decide to retire, he, his family and his charities will all be set for life. A first ballot Hall of Fame is all that awaits him after that.
Good for Kersh - and good for the Dodgers. A win - win all around!
GO DODGERS!!!

"Will be set for life" A rookie who makes the minimum of half a million or whatever it is nowadays can be set for life! and yes Kershaw will make the Hall of Fame. the only thing he hasn't figured out to do is win in the post season.

Simple solution to this is try making him number two (or three). It certainly worked against Atlanta. And maybe score a few runs for the dude. Other than that game against Houston last year, run support for Kersh has been pretty scarce. GO DODGERS!!!

The opening game of the '17 WS, he went 7 innings, one run and 9 Ks, but he got his clock cleaned in game 5. Some players like Reggie Jackson thrive in the post season, others can't stand the pressure, like Kershaw and Jansen.

He’s had some very good postseason starts and some very poor starts. His win / loss record and ERA confirm that. Moving him to two in the opening Atlanta series really seemed to piss him off and maybe that’s what he needs.
The opener in Boston started with a pop up to first that I think Bellinger catches 99 out of 100 times. But Freese missed it giving the Sox another out and that seemed to get in Kersh’s head right off the bat, costing us two runs.
A couple of innings later, a double play opportunity is missed and again, gets in Kersh’s head costing us another two runs.
What happens if Doc starts Hill in game one and he pitches similar to his game 4 in LA? Maybe we win the opener and Kersh goes into game two with significantly less pressure and again, maybe a little pissed off.
We have a very good shot coming home up 2 - 0, instead of down that margin.
I’ve said all year that I don’t think Jansen has been the same since blowing game two against Houston last WS. Again, a mental thing.et
But mostly I blame Doc for Kenley’s downfall with his constant trying and failing to use him for two innings. Closers are just that - CLOSERS. They get amped and pumped for those three outs in the ninth and that’s it.
You never saw Gange or Rivera or Saito or Hoffman come into games in the eighth inning, even if it was just for one out. Because their managers knew that mindset and didn’t want them losing that focus and edge sitting on the bench while the team batted.
If they can mold Baez into an 8th inning set up man (like Broxton used to do for Saito), I think Kenley will be fine. But Doc has to stop using him for multiple innings. It has backfired significantly more times than it has been effective.
GO DODGERS!!!

Huh? 500,000 is enough for a lifetime?
Odd.

That won’t even put a roof over your head in and or around LA. The Coldwell Banker insert that came with my complimentary LA Times was proof of that. Little 2 bed, 1 bath huts with zero land were 700 large. GO DODGERS!!!

After growing up in Azusa and living 35 years in San Clemente, I watched real estate and rent explode. No way I could ever live there again. Now I live in Idaho Falls, Idaho where many Californians have migrated. Homes are much more affordable relative to wages here.

Clayton Kershaw Third in Strikeout Performances; Among Elite Company
The long-time ace is still really very good.
by Clint Pasillas
Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has been among the best of the best in baseball throughout his 12 year career. While he has lost some velocity on his fastball, and his strikeout totals continue to dip since his peak seasons, he still finds himself listed alongside the elite K pitchers in the game.
With his 10 K performance on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, he recorded the 60th 10+ strikeout game of his career. That number is good enough to place him third in baseball since 2008, only trailing Max Scherzer and Chris Sale.
As an added layer of enjoyment for Dodgers fans, they can proudly boast that their ace has done it all for one team… Scherzer has compiled his total for 3 teams, and Sale for 2. Impressively, Sale’s career started in 2010, while both Clayton and Max debuted in 2008.
Stuff
Gone are the days of Kershaw regularly striking out 10+ — Saturday was his first of the season, and first since K-ing 12 D-backs way back in April 2018. At his peak in 2015, King Kershaw recorded an incredible 13 10+ strikeout games, en route to a career high 301 in a season where he lost out on his 4th (should have been 5th) Cy Young Award.
He recorded 7 10+ games as recently as 2017.
Some view this as “he doesn’t have it anymore.” However, it should be taken as a sign that Kershaw is merely adapting to his new form. No longer equipped with the 93-94mph heat, he can still catch you slipping with nasty off-speed stuff.
Final Thought
If 17-7 with a 2.78 ERA over the last two seasons is considered “not having it,” we may not know what it is anymore.
------------------------------------
I thought he would struggle due to loss of velocity but this guy has adapted, good for him.

Me too, he's figuring it out though. A 1.018 WHIP, 7th in MLB this year.

And if he can get that postseason monkey off his back and finally grab that gold ring, he only gets that much closer to unanimous HOF election. GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Walks five in 10th win
Rotowire 6H ago
Kershaw (10-2) picked up the win Thursday after holding the Padres to two runs on six hits and five walks while striking out five over six innings.
Kershaw gave up a solo homer to Hunter Renfroe in the second inning and an RBI single to Manny Machado in the third while getting another solid day of run support from his offense to improve his career record against the Padres to 20-6. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old threw his 2,397th career strikeout to pass Sandy Koufax for third all-time in franchise history. Despite allowing a season-high five free passes, Kershaw has pitched at least six innings in every start this season and sports the sixth lowest ERA in the National League (2.85) to go with a 1.06 WHIP and 122:27 K:BB. Next, the left-hander will take the hill at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday for a matchup against the Cardinals.
