I thought he sounded under the gun in spring training when he said the team wasn't as deep as in previous years. Well, the Dodgers had two straight Rookies of the Year, Dave. Were you expecting that? This is not even counting pleasant surprises like Kenta Maeda. We'll see if this ploy works or not.

I'm torn on this. Roberts did the right thing benching Bellinger. I was shocked when I saw hin standing at second after hitting it to Triples Alley. A faster runner might make it all the way around the bases. I get that he didn't want to record an out on the bases, but there's no excuse for not hustling. If he got thrown out on the bases giving a full effort, tip your hat to the outfielders. I at least would appreciate the hustle. It seems Cody has a pattern of this and he needs to know that this will not be tolerated.
Having said that, Roberts also needs start standing up for his players. A lot of things happened this week. The balk, the Giants throwing at their hitters, Maeda getting squeezed by the home plate ump. Yet not once did Roberts show any push back or get in the umps face to protect his team. It may not seem like a lot, but getting kicked out and getting in the ump's face can do a lot to a dugout. It shows that the manager has their back and he won't tolerate any BS, from umps or teams taking cheap shots.
We'll see where this takes us, but things need to change and fast. It may still be April, but if we don't show up in Arizona, we may find ourselves in a hole too big to climb out of. As Yogi once said, "It gets late early out there."

I think dave feels the pressure, and can't handle it Or maybe he can handle it. And is making everyone accountable. It wasn't a secret why Bellinger was pulled. Lying about it later just makes it worse.

He needs to wake this group up but I agree, it should be kept in the clubhouse if possible. We've played less than 1/5th of the season but it''s obvious IMO, that this team needs to play better and Dave needs to manage better. It's been and will continue to be a team game. Really? What did you want him to say there? Everyone is on notice. Good job!

I know no one likes surgery, but if Seager had the procedure in November he would be good to go, assuming a 5 to 6 mouth recoup rehab period.

I know no one likes surgery, but if Seager had the procedure in November he would be good to go, assuming a 5 to 6 mouth recoup rehab period. Easy to say now. The idea is to avoid surgery when possible. It's not the first option like some want to think. And it wouldn't matter if he did it in November. He would still likely miss the whole year. 5 to 6 months after TJS is not realistic. And he said he was ok, until this past weekend. Said Seager, "I was pretty good through spring, and pretty good through the beginning, but then -- like I said -- this weekend I had a few bad throws that really irritated me. "In the physical sense, it hurt, had some numbness, and it was time to go get it looked at."

The "resetting the luxury tax" is going to put a real damper on this team. I don't want to be negative, but this whole thing is driving me insane. We want to reset the luxury tax so we can go after a guy like Machado and Bryce Harper next season....and here's a potential chance to get Machado NOW, and we're probably going to pass...lol. It's not my money so obviously it doesn't matter to me, but play for the championship! Our window is NOW and you don't know how long it will last. Go get these guys while you can and make a run at the WS. Stop saving on the hopes of signing one of these next year when you can get them today. And forget Bryce Harper- although I would love to have him- 15 teams are going to be legitimately vying for his services in the off-season. What do you think the chances are of us getting him? It's not worth the risk. EDIT- Under no circumstances do I think the Dodgers should trade Walker Buehler to get him! That is the one prospect that I deem to be untouchable. The article suggested that, so I just wanted to make it clear that I would love to get Machado but not if we have to give up Buehler to get him. I like the idea of dumping Grandal to free up the luxury cap space...we'd be selling at a high before Grandal's inevitable regression to the mean. And let's face it- Machado is a huge get! Grandal is definitely a loss, but we gain more than we lose in a trade like that, especially if we re-sign Machado to a long term deal.

It's not worth the risk. The problems are... 1 - This way we have to give up players to get Machado. 2 - Once we've done that there's no guarantee we keep him. He'll be a free agent. 3 - Instead of resetting the penalties we compound them. I honestly hope we don't have to go this route.
