Lord, help us! 11 LOB tonight. Should’ve been over well before the eighth. Phillips blows the lead giving up a meatball to Yelich, yet gets the W. I HATE that rule. Could we have a NEW “vulture”? GO DODGERS!!!

GO DODGERS!!! I had actually picked up Vesia in a couple fantasy leagues before this. He's been posting some amazing numbers. Phillips isn't helping himself.

Could we have a NEW “vulture”? GO DODGERS!!! That's exactly why wins are a misleading stat for pitchers. I zero in on the ERA first, then the WHIP, then see how clutch a pitcher is, that is, how many baserunners are allowed to score. Bob Fellar didn't care about his ERA. If the Indian hitters got him a big lead early in the game, he didn't care if the other team scored 4 or 5 runs off him. He was a genius at stranding runners in tight games and could get clutch Ks to keep the Indians in the lead. Fellar, despite only a 3-2 K/BB ratio, is in the top 20 all time starting pitchers. He didn't try to blow every hitter away like Nolan Ryan, but he did when he had to.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Collects seventh hold Rotowire 3 HRS AGO Treinen earned a hold against Milwaukee on Saturday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.
Treinen entered in the seventh frame and retired the side in order on 11 pitches. The right-hander has given up an earned run in just two of his 23 appearances this season, resulting in a solid 2.61 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 20.2 innings. Treinen hasn't shown much rust despite missing all of 2023 and most of 2022 due to a shoulder injury.
Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Swats go-ahead homer Rotowire 4 HRS AGO Vargas hit a solo home run as a pinch hitter in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Brewers.
Vargas batted for Gavin Lux in the eighth inning and came through with a solo blast to give Los Angeles a 4-3 lead. The 24-year-old has been very productive when given the opportunity this season, slashing .349/.408/.651 with three homers, four doubles, nine RBI, 10 runs and a stolen base over 49 plate appearances. Vargas hasn't been a consistent part of the lineup, however, as he's started just once across Los Angeles' past seven contests.
Dodgers' Will Smith: Goes deep again Saturday Rotowire 4 HRS AGO Smith went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-3 win against Milwaukee.
After belting three solo homers Friday, Smith smashed a two-run shot in his first at-bat Saturday. Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the backstop became the first Dodger to homer in four straight at-bats since Adrian Gonzalez in 2015 and the first major-leaguer to do so since Jose Altuve in September of last season. Smith's two-game power surge has pushed him to 15 long balls on the campaign, tied for third among MLB catchers.
Dodgers' Evan Phillips: Used in eighth frame again Saturday Rotowire 4 HRS AGO Phillips (2-0) was charged with a blown save and earned the win against Milwaukee on Saturday. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out one batter over one inning.
With the Dodgers up 3-2 in the top of the eighth frame, manager Dave Roberts elected to call upon Phillips to face the heart of the Brewers order. The right-hander couldn't protect the lead, giving up a one-out solo homer to Christian Yelich. Phillips did get credited for the win, however, as a result of Los Angeles tallying two runs in the bottom of the frame and Alex Vesia closing things out in the ninth. This was the second time in the past two weeks that Roberts has called upon Phillips before the ninth inning in a high-leverage situation, so it's clear that the team is comfortable using him in that way. Phillips should still get the vast majority of save chances for the Dodgers, though Vesia has five saves on the campaign and is probably the leading candidate for ninth-inning duties when Phillips is either unavailable or deployed earlier in a contest.
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Home run, triple in win Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Ohtani went 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's win over Milwaukee. He also drew two walks.
Ohtani drew a leadoff walk in his first trip to the plate before coming home on a Will Smith home run in the following at-bat. The superstar slugger then swiped his 18th bag of the season in the second inning after being hit by a pitch and later added a home run of his own to extend the Dodgers' lead to two runs in the eighth. It marked his second long ball this month and his 28th on the campaign, which is good for second in the majors behind only Aaron Judge. The triple was Ohtani's third of the season and his first since May 25.
Dodgers' Alex Vesia: Secures fifth save Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Vesia picked up the save over the Brewers on Saturday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.
Vesia entered the contest with a two-run lead and went 1-2-3 through the back end of Milwaukee's lineup to earn his fifth save of the campaign. It was the lefty's first save opportunity since blowing one against the Giants on June 29, and he's now recorded a strikeout in each of his last three appearances. Vesia also hasn't allowed a hit in either of his last two outings.
Dodgers' James Paxton: Allows two runs over five frames Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Paxton did not factor into the decision in a win over Milwaukee on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings while striking out three.
Paxton allowed one run to come across in the opening frame before surrendering just three hits and a walk from that point on. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a solo home run off the bat of Rhys Hoskins, marking the second start in a row in which the lefty's given up the long ball and third time in his last three outings. Paxton threw only 10 of his 21 first pitches for strikes on the night and walked multiple batters for the third straight start. He'll look to pick up the first win since June 17 (span of three starts) when the Dodgers travel to Detroit next week to take on the Tigers.

No Barnes on Sunday? Smith actually catching three games in a row? This HAS to be a first and a glitch in the analytics report.
Sure - the four HR’s in two games were special.
But we’ve seen dumb and dumber bench guys hotter than that simply to fulfill their more important than anything R / L matchups.
I’m at a loss . . .
GO DODGERS!!!

Two runs on a HR by CT3 (of all people) against a dude with an ERA of nearly six. Up to nine LOB.
It’s impossible to try and figure these guys out.
GO DODGERS!!!

I've posted about Justin Wrobleski before, that he was the up and coming starter in the rotation, but I did'nt expect it would be this soon!
When I saw the Dodger pitcher today was TBD, I was thinking bullpen game. I thought he might be pitching at OKC today but he didn't, and the next thing I knew he was the starter today, after 2 AAA starts, no less.
He made a couple of mistakes and the Beer Drinkers made him pay, but he was fooling hitters, with 4 Ks and only 75 pitches in 5 innings. However, the oppostion's homer barrage continues with 3 today, 2 off JWrob. Aside from those 2 2 run bombs, I think he had a good debut.
And have you noticed that it never seems to fail, that when the Dodgers are getting beat by a big margin that there always seem to be 2 or 3 runs in the 9th after not scoring for a few innings?
JWrob's next start is against the Striped Kats.

Mookie in the booth has been pretty cool. Gives us a real pro's perspective. The subject of speed vs. control came up. Mookie said he would rather face a pitcher with good control than someone with no control but who throws really hard. Funny. Orel Hershiser was making the point about Bobby Miller learning he doesn't have to put everything behind every pitch. Locate.
Orel is right, of course. Kershaw has been doing it for years. But it was funny hearing Betts talk about the fear of facing someone with no idea where the ball was going.
Decades ago, Reggie Jackson said something similar about Nolan Ryan. That's when Nolan was still on the Angels & giving up 200 walks a year. You either walked or struck out. Fear was constantly in the back of your mind. It may have been Jackson who said Ryan could throw a ball through a carwash & it wouldn't get wet.

His bat was on fire early on, but had cooled off of late. I’m guessing he has some kind of bonus written into his contract, but is that really a factor in how the alternates get picked? Obviously they’ll pick someone else to replace him on the roster. But why not just pick that player in the first place? GO DODGERS!!!

They’re gayer than the current cream (WHY CREAM?) coloured City Connect jerseys the Dodgers sported this past weekend. They should just go back to each team wearing their regular season whites and grays. But I guess that might cost them another few billion in alternate jersey sales. Lord knows we can’t have that! GO DODGERS!!!
