Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Will face live pitching this week Rotowire 8 hrs ago Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said Wednesday that Freeman (ankle) is expected to face live pitching at some point during the team's workouts this week, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Freeman missed the final three games of the regular season with a right ankle injury, but he is fully expected to be ready for Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday. The Dodgers have not had Max Muncy work out at first base this week, further suggesting they don't anticipate Freeman's readiness being in question.
Dodgers' Jack Flaherty: Tapped for Game 1 start Rotowire 8 hrs ago Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said Wednesday that the club plans to start Flaherty on Saturday in Game 1 of the NLDS, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Flaherty will be tasked with Game 1 before the Dodgers turn to Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 2. The 28-year-old posted a 3.58 ERA and 61:19 K:BB across 55.1 innings covering 10 starts for the Dodgers after being acquired from the Tigers at the trade deadline.

Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Taking mound for Game 2 Rotowire 2 hrs ago Yamamoto will start Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS against San Diego, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Yamamoto allowed eight earned runs over six innings across his two appearances against the Padres during the regular season, though it's been nearly six months since he last faced them. More recently, the 26-year-old righty turned in a 3.38 ERA and 21:5 K:BB through 16 frames following his return from the injured list Sept. 10.

Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Intends to play Game 1
Rotowire 2 hrs ago Freeman (ankle) told reporters Friday that he will play in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Padres, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Freeman sprained his ankle against the Padres on Sept. 26, which kept him out of the last three games of the regular season. While he was told that the severity of the sprain takes 4-to-6 weeks of recovery on the injured list, Freeman relayed that he would "try and do it in a week." The veteran first baseman went through defensive drills and ran the bases Friday, and while he didn't look 100 percent, he appears determined to play at first base in Game 1 of the NLDS.Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Expected to be in lineup Rotowire 5 hrs ago Manager Dave Roberts told reporters Friday that Freeman (ankle) will undergo a full workout and is expected to be in the lineup for Game 1 of the NLDS against the Padres, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Freeman will run the bases and play defense Friday, and while Roberts expects the first baseman to be in the lineup for Game 1, a decision won't be made until Saturday, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. If Freeman is unable to go for Game 1, he should be available to pinch-hit off the bench while Max Muncy or Enrique Hernandez start at first base, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. Freeman missed the last three games of the regular season after rolling his ankle against the Padres on Sept. 26. The 35-year-old finished the regular season slashing .282/.378/.476 with 22 home runs and 89 RBI across 638 plate appearances. Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Still not throwing
Rotowire 5 hrs ago Glasnow said Friday that the inflammation has gone down in his right elbow, but he has yet to resume throwing, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Glasnow was shut down after being diagnosed with a right elbow sprain Sept. 14. While he isn't expected to undergo surgery, Glasnow has been restricted to rehab on his elbow, and he noted Friday that a more definitive recovery plan will be put in place once he undergoes more scans, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Glasgow went 9-6 during the regular season with a 3.49 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 168:35 K:BB across 134 innings. Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Hitting only in scrimmage Rotowire Oct 4, 2024 Freeman (ankle) was able to bat during Thursday's intra-squad scrimmage but not play first base, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. It was a positive sign that Freeman took part in baseball activity, though this cast the first doubt about whether he'd be ready for the NLDS. That's particularly true with Shohei Ohtani locked into the DH spot. Max Muncy was playing first base, with Enrique Hernandez at the hot corner in Freeman's absence. Dodgers' Jack Flaherty: Bumped to Game 2
Rotowire Oct 3, 2024 Flaherty will start in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Padres on Sunday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. The Dodgers originally planned to start Flaherty in Game 1, but they are instead opting to start Yoshinobu Yamamoto to allow Yamamoto five days rest before potentially pitching in a decisive Game 5. Flaherty had a solid regular season, but he did struggle a bit down the stretch by allowing nine earned runs across his final 14 frames with a 14:9 K:BB. Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Now starting Game 1
Rotowire Oct 3, 2024 Yamamoto is starting Game 1 of the NLDS against San Diego on Saturday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Yamamoto was originally slated to start Game 2, but he'll flip spots with Jack Flaherty. If the series goes a full five games, Yamamoto is projected to pitch in the decisive contest. He's pitched well in his return from a triceps injury, allowing two or fewer earned runs in three of four starts. www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=yamamyo01&t=p&year=2024

MLB News: Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers gain edge in NLDS with Padres' starting pitcher out
Story by Richard Tovar • 4h • 2 min read
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Shohei Ohtani might have a slight edge over the San Diego Padres in the NLDS, as it was announced that one of the Friars' starting pitchers will be unavailable for the next round of the playoffs.
Good news for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Shohei Ohtani as they prepare to face the San Diego Padres in the NLDS, which begins on October 5. Ahead of the series, it was revealed that one of the Friars’ starting pitchers will need elbow surgery and won’t be available for the playoffs.
According to recent statements from Padres General Manager A.J. Preller, the team will be without Joe Musgrove, who requires Tommy John surgery, effectively ending his 2024 MLB season. According to StatMuse, Shohei Ohtani is 1-8 with an RBI in 9 plate appearances against Joe Musgrove.
Joe Musgrove was expected to pitch for the San Diego Padres in the 2024 MLB NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he was part of the Padres’ starting rotation alongside Cease, King, Darvish, and Perez.
It’s worth noting that the Padres will play the first two games of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium, before heading to Petco Park for Games 3 and 4, where the team had already devised a ‘strategy’ to block rival fans from attending.
Joe Musgrove’s 2024 MLB Season This was Musgrove’s fourth season with the Padres, but his 2024 campaign won’t end as successfully as last year, when he finished 10-3. In 2022, he also went 10-7, but this season he will have to settle for a 6-5 record across 19 starts due to the announcement of his surgery.
One of his standout years with the Friars was in 2022, when he posted a 2.93 ERA, the lowest of his career that began in 2016 with the Houston Astros. Musgrove’s final game of the 2024 MLB season was a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card Round.

MLB News: Padres unveil plan to block Dodgers fans from taking over Petco Park during playoffs The first two games of the series will be on the road, but the San Diego Padres already have a plan in place for their home games. Their goal? To prevent the Los Angeles Dodgers fans from dominating the crowd at Petco Park.

The San Diego Padres are gearing up for the start of the National League Division Series (NLDS) against the Los Angeles Dodgers on October 5, with Game 1 taking place at Dodger Stadium. However, when the series shifts to San Diego for Games 3 and 4, the Padres are reportedly implementing a plan to limit the presence of Dodgers fans at Petco Park.
According to multiple sources, including Ryan Phillips of Sports Illustrated, the Padres will activate a warning and blocking system for those trying to purchase tickets for Games 3 and 4 through their official website.
The strategy is designed to restrict ticket sales to residents of select areas, including San Diego County, southern Orange County, and western Arizona—regions where Dodgers fans are less prevalent.
While this move may reduce the number of the Los Angles Dodgers fans in the stadium, it’s unlikely to completely prevent them from attending, especially given the Dodgers’ status as favorites in the series and the star power of players like Shohei Ohtani, who draw large crowds.
When are the NLDS playoff games at Petco Park? Game 3 of the Padres-Dodgers series is scheduled for October 8, with Game 4 following on October 9. If the series extends to Game 5, it will be played at Dodger Stadium. However, the Padres could return to Petco Park if the series reaches a later stage.
When did the Padres last win the NLDS against the Dodgers? In 2022, the Padres pulled off a surprising NLDS victory over the Dodgers, winning the series 3-1. They took one game at Dodger Stadium and two at home to advance, but ultimately fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in the NLCS.

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Not on NLDS roster Rotowire 41 mins ago Kershaw (toe) does not have a roster spot for the NLDS versus San Diego.
Kershaw's absence from the roster doesn't come as a surprise, as the veteran left-hander is still recovering from a toe injury. There is a possibility that he could play if the Dodgers advance to the NLCS or World Series, though that's far from a guarantee. The starting pitchers included on Los Angeles' NLDS roster include Jack Flaherty, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler and Landon Knack.
Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Doesn't get spot on NLDS roster Rotowire 47 mins ago Kelly is not included on the Dodgers' roster for the National League Division Series against San Diego.
Kelly had a shoulder injury that sidelined him late in the season, but he was able to return from the injured list Sept. 18 and gave up only one run while posting a 5:2 K:BB over 3.1 innings thereafter. However, the right-handed reliever won't be an option out of the bullpen for Los Angeles during the NLDS. The Dodgers did give a roster spot to hard-throwing rookie Edgardo Henriquez, who logged just three regular-season appearances.

So Daisy is bound and determined to go out in the first round again.
Yamaha has faced the Padres only twice, however, is 0 - 2 with an ERA of 12.00
Flaherty has six starts against the Stains and is 2 - 1 with an ERA of 4.45, a good deal of which was due to one bad game of the six.
In the other five, his ERA was below two.
Daisy wants to give Yamaha five days rest in case the series goes five.
Makes sense to me that he’d want a dude with three times the ERA and ZERO success against a team to make two starts as opposed to the alternative who has had success against that opponent.
One has to wonder if this self-destructive sabotage is a direct result of Vegas and the gazillion betting apps that are out there these days.
FIRE DAISY ROBERTS!!!

Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Likely out until World Series Rotowire 1 hr ago Kelly (shoulder) isn't expected to be able to pitch again this season unless the Dodgers reach the World Series, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Kelly tweaked his shoulder in a simulated game this week. The issue explains why the right-handed reliever was left off Los Angeles' NLDS roster. Though Kelly posted an unimpressive 4.78 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 32 innings during the regular season, he recorded a 9.8 K/9 and tied for third on the team with 13 holds.
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Won't pitch again this season Rotowire 1 hr ago Kershaw's injured toe has not improved, and he won't be available to pitch again in 2024 regardless of how far the Dodgers advance in the playoffs, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Kershaw is dealing with a bone spur in his left big toe and hasn't pitched since Aug. 30. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Saturday that the issue may have gotten worse as the veteran southpaw has tried to prepare for a return, and that will prevent Kershaw from pitching again this season. The future Hall of Famer was limited to a career-low seven appearances in 2024 and posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB over 30 innings.
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Status for Game 1 uncertain Rotowire 1 hr ago Freeman (ankle) isn't certain to play in Game 1 of the NLDS, and manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that he is "not as hopeful" about the first baseman's status as he was Friday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Freeman told reporters Friday that he intends to play in the first game of the divisional series, but Roberts' comments one day later suggest that such a scenario is far from certain. It's not clear if Freeman has suffered a setback or if he was being overly optimistic when he said he expected to play, and it's worth noting that the severity of his sprain --- which he suffered just over a week ago (on Sept. 26) -- typically has a recovery period of 4-to-6 weeks. Freeman is on the Dodgers' NLDS roster, but if he's unable to play Saturday, Enrique Hernandez could get the start at first base.
Dodgers' Michael Grove: Gets spot on NLDS roster Rotowire 2 hrs ago Grove is included on the Dodgers' roster for the NLDS versus San Diego.
Grove recorded 39 appearances -- including two starts -- during the regular season and posted a 5.12 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 54:16 K:BB over 51 innings. The right-hander was sent to the minors in mid-September but was activated Saturday to serve as a bullpen piece during the divisional series. Grove will give Los Angeles a bit of length out of the bullpen, as 14 of his 39 outings during the campaign went longer than one inning.

My only concern is he aggravates it worse and then is done for the year. I’ve done that move to both my ankles more times than I can remember. Broke the right twice and left once. All others were bad sprains and back then I was in “playing” shape - hell, I had to be. I was playing every night of the week and all day tournaments at least every other weekend. I was NEVER back within a week. Experts say 4 - 6 weeks. I guess he knows there isn’t that much time left in the season, so if it gets worse, he’ll be out anyway. Gotta admire dude - just hope it doesn’t affect his bat and then running afterwards. FIRE DAISY ROBERTS!!!
