Gavin Stone RHP 2-1, 4.06 ERA, 23 SO
LAD Lineup
Mookie Betts (R) SS Shohei Ohtani (L) DH Freddie Freeman (L) 1B Teoscar Hernández (R) RF Enrique Hernández (R) LF Max Muncy (L) 3B Andy Pages (R) CF Miguel Rojas (R) 2B Austin Barnes (R) C
Dodgers' Will Smith: Not in Wednesday's lineup Rotowire 53 MINS AGO Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
The Dodgers are playing a day game after a night game, so it makes sense to give Smith a day to rest his legs. Austin Barnes will do the catching for Gavin Stone on Wednesday as the Dodgers go for the series sweep.
Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Dominates Marlins over eight frames Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Yamamoto improved to 4-1 in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Marlins, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five over eight innings.
Yamamoto gave up a first pitch home run to Jazz Chisholm to open up the game and his only other blemish on the night came from another solo home run by Bryan De La Cruz in the sixth. He was incredibly efficient, needing 97 pitches to navigate through eight innings. It was his first time pitching past six inning as a MLB player and he's now won four straight decisions since suffering a loss in his debut March 21 versus the Padres in the Seoul Series. Removing the shaky outing in Korea, Yamamoto owns a 1.76 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 45:7 K:BB in 41 innings this season. He'll look to keep rolling next week in a projected road matchup against the Giants.
Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Connects on first homer of year Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Lux went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Marlins.
Lux sent one out off of George Soriano in the third for his first home run since Aug. 15, 2022. Lux has been seeing the ball better as of late despite owning just a .191 batting average. He has eight hits, five RBI and five runs over his last eight games. For the year, he's slashing .191/.258/.247 with seven RBI, 14 runs and an 8:22 BB:K in 97 plate appearances.
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Mashes grand slam in win Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Muncy went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Marlins.
Muncy quickly put the Dodgers ahead with a first-inning grand slam off of Edward Cabrera. It was his sixth career grand slam and fourth home run in his last three games, as he now has eight RBI over that span. Muncy is currently hitting .263, which is well above his career average, and overall is slashing .263/.370/.570 with nine homers, 26 RBI, 22 runs and a 19:40 BB:K in 138 plate appearances.
Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Approaching rehab assignment Rotowire 10 HRS AGO Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Miller (shoulder) is coming up on a minor-league rehab assignment "pretty quickly," Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Miller threw a bullpen session Monday, his second since being placed on the injured list with inflammation in his right shoulder April 13. Roberts noted that the right-hander's velocity was "good" in the session and sounded optimistic about Miller's progress in his recovery from the injury. The second-year hurler will make at least one minor-league rehab start, though it's still unclear how many more bullpens he'll throw before he reaches that point.
Dodgers' Dustin May: Nearing mound work Rotowire 11 HRS AGO Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated last week that May (elbow) is getting close to throwing off a mound, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
May has been rehabbing from the right flexor tendon and UCL reconstruction revision surgery he underwent last July, and advancing to mound work will be a major step in his recovery. The right-hander has had two elbow surgeries in the past three years, so the organization is likely to be conservative in setting a timeline for his eventual return to game action. If his rehab continues to go smoothly, May could be ready to join Los Angeles sometime after the All-Star break, though there's no guarantee that the Dodgers will let him throw in big-league games this season.
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Tosses another bullpen session Rotowire 11 HRS AGO Kershaw (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
This was the second bullpen session Kershaw has thrown since undergoing shoulder surgery last November. The southpaw hurled 15 pitches in his initial bullpen Friday and increased that amount to 20 pitches Tuesday. He's throwing only fastballs at this point, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that the results have been "really encouraging" so far. Kershaw could next advance to including breaking pitches in his mound work and ramping up to more pitches as he slowly works his way back to game action. The future Hall of Famer isn't expected to make his season debut for the Dodgers until after the All-Star break.

I missed the game. Stone pitched brilliantly. 7.0 innings. Just 1 run allowed. A solo homer. Teoscar hit his 10th homerun. He accounted for all three Dodger runs.

It was over before I even knew it started. Knew it was a day game, but figured it wouldn’t start until @ 4:00 pm EST. I was actually working today (for a change) and before I knew it, it was around six pm here. Guess it either started earlier or was a pretty quick game. 3 - 1 could’ve gone by quickly. GO DODGERS!!!

Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal: Interpreter Ippei Mizuhara to plead guilty, faces up to 33 years in prison
Mizuhara has agreed to plead guilty to bank fraud and tax fraud By Matt Snyder May 8, 2024 at 4:23 pm ET • 3 min read
Ippei Mizuhara, the former interpreter for Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, has agreed to plead guilty in the gambling scandal in which he has been accused of stealing almost $17 million from the baseball player and using it to place illegal bets, the U.S Attorney's Office for the Central District of California announced Wednesday.
Mizuhara, described by the Attorney's Office as Ohtani's "de facto manager," will plead guilty to one count of bank fraud and one count of subscribing to a false tax return at an arraignment scheduled for May 14. He faces a maximum sentence of 33 years in prison, five years of supervised release and a fine of $1,250,000.
The 39-year-old former interpreter will be required to pay full restitution to his victims, which includes $16,975,010 to Victim A, Ohtani, and $1,149,400 to the IRS.
"The extent of this defendant's deception and theft is massive," United States Attorney Martin Estrada said in a statement Wednesday. "He took advantage of his position of trust to take advantage of Mr. Ohtani and fuel a dangerous gambling habit. My office is committed to vindicating victims throughout our community and ensuring that wrongdoers face justice."
Special Agent in Charge Tyler Hatcher, IRS Criminal Investigation, Los Angeles Field Office said in a statement that Mizuhara "exploited his relationship with Mr. Ohtani to bankroll his own irresponsibility."
News of the fraud that entangled Ohtani broke back in March while the Dodgers were opening the 2024 MLB season in South Korea, and in the ensuing weeks we learned that Ohtani was the victim. Mizuhara racked up tens of millions of dollars in gambling debts to an illegal bookmaker and was funneling the money through casinos. He had been illicitly making withdrawals from Ohtani's bank accounts, including by impersonating Ohtani on the phone with the bank, and having had access to all pertinent passwords and codes.
More, from the press release on Wednesday:
As part of his job duties, Mizuhara regularly interacted with Ohtani's sports agents and financial advisors – who did not speak Japanese – on behalf of Ohtani, who did not speak English. Although Mizuhara was an employee of the Los Angeles Angels MLB team, for whom Ohtani played from 2018 to 2023, and, later, the Los Angeles Dodgers, for whom Ohtani has played since 2024, Ohtani paid him separately for the additional work of driving him to meetings and interpreting for non-baseball-related activities.
Mizuhara's gambling activities appeared to start in September 2021 and continued through March 2024. According to prosecutors, after going to a Phoenix bank with Ohtani to open a bank account, Mizuhara changed the security protocols on the account so bank employees would call him, rather than Ohtani, with any questions. Mizuhara impersonated Ohtani in calls with bank employees at least 24 times, according to the Attorney's Office.
"When Ohtani's sports agent and financial advisors asked Mizuhara for access to the bank account, Mizuhara lied and said Ohtani did not want them to access the account because it was private," the DOJ said in a press release. "In fact, Mizuhara did not want them to know that he had been stealing from Ohtani and had fraudulently obtained more than $16,975,010 from him."
As well as the millions siphoned out of Ohtani's account to pay off gambling debt, Mizuhara also bought $325,000 worth of baseball cards on eBay and other online resellers in order to flip them and profit himself. In September 2023, Ohtani agreed to pay for Mizuhara's $60,000 dental work and provided him with a check. Instead, according to prosecutors, Mizuhara paid the bill with Ohtani's debit card and deposited the check into his personal account.
Mizuhara also admitted to falsely reporting his taxable income on his IRS tax returns in 2022, resulting in the tax fraud charge. According to the plea deal, Mizuhara falsely claimed he was single when he was in fact married and failed to report additional income of $4,100,000 that year.
An attorney representing Mizuhara declined to comment when reached by CBS Sports.

Okay - We come back to how you couldn't notice 17 million dollars missing.
Let's see what kind of sentence he gets.
How is a guy, who was making $85,000 a year from the Dodgers, going to pay off 18 million dollars of debt? He supposedly won't have Ohtani anymore.
Where are the baseball cards? That's a tangible asset. It would be really convenient if Mizuhara doesn't have them anymore.
What kind of dental work costs $60,000.00? I take it Shohei hadn't already made the check out to the dentist.
$4,100.00? That's the tax fraud charge? And he gets a plea deal on that.
I can do this all day with their story. It doesn't smell right.

Well take this for what it's worth, but today I watched Doug McKain on Dodgers Nation on youtube and he showed statistically that Mad Max is in the 83rd percentile amongst third basemen. The second game of the season, in Korea, he made 2 errors, one of them when the ball glanced off his foot. But honestly, He's looked pretty good most of the time. And, get this, he ranks #1 in defensive wins above replacement. He's no Nolan Arenado, but I think we can compare him to Ron Cey. That is, he'll never win a gold glove, but he's pretty far above average.
Therefore, his good play on the hot corner, combined with his great bat, he's a keeper, but we'll see how Kody Hoese at OKC and Jake Gelof at Great Lakes do in the next year or 2. Plus, I'm fed up with that lefty Sasaki who many want signed next year. There's a Japanese third baseman named Munetaka Murakami who at 24, has a career OPS of .954. He's pure power, with 216 bombs. Whatever, no worries about the hot corner

Dodgers' Evan Phillips: Progressing through injury Rotowire 1 HR AGO Phillips (hamstring) was out on the field playing catch Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

He is eligible to return May 19, and the right-hander could return to action when his minimum IL stint is complete. Phillips has eight saves with a 0.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB over 13.2 innings this season.
