Yeah. He'll be fine. Speed gun aficionados will be happy with his velocity. Not exactly the ace we once knew. And against one of the worst teams in the league at home. I hope he’s just rusty and may take a few / half dozen starts to get back. I hope I’m wrong, but considering how poorly he pitched at AAA, we may not ever see that ace again. Two years is a LONG time to be off for Tommy John, and wasn’t that his second TJ procedure? Tough to come back from that, even as young as Ferris is. You know me - ever the skeptic. GO DODGERS!!! Time will tell. I'm not concerned. Ferris is smarter than the average bear. He can pitch effectively without throwing 97-98 mph.

Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Homers again Monday Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-3 win against the Marlins.
Hernandez hit one of four Dodgers homers in the contest, smashing a 418-foot solo shot in the third inning. It was his second straight game with a long ball, and he's gone deep three times in his past four games. Hernandez is up to nine home runs and 26 RBI on the season while slashing .259/.325/.490 and adding 24 runs and three stolen bases.
Dodgers' James Outman: Snaps slump with long homer Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Outman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 6-3 win over Miami.
Outman was dropped to ninth in the batting order Monday after primarily batting in the No. 7 slot throughout the campaign, and he responded with his first long ball -- a 437-foot, two-run shot -- since April 9. It's been a struggle for Outman in his second full big-league campaign, as he's slashing a meager .169/.267/.303 and came into Monday having hit just .107 (3-for-28) over his previous nine contests. Outman may need to build upon Monday's homer with an extended run of success to continue to hold onto an everyday spot in the lineup, as rookie Andy Pages appears to have earned consistent playing time, Teoscar Hernandez is a staple in left field and veteran Jason Heyward (back) is getting closer to a return.
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Goes deep Monday Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Freeman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Marlins in Monday's 6-3 win.
Though his long ball didn't travel nearly as far, Freeman followed Shohei Ohtani in the first inning Monday as the pair slugged back-to-back homers. Freeman has yet to fully flex his power this season -- he has just three homers through 167 plate appearances -- but he's been otherwise productive, as usual, with a .292/.407/.445 slash line, 21 RBI, 18 runs and a stolen base. The veteran first baseman is also tied for seventh in the league with 10 doubles and tied for fifth with 24 walks.
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Continues to destroy baseballs Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two stolen bases Monday in a 6-3 victory versus Miami.
Fresh off being named the National League's Player of the Week after posting an absurd .524/.583/.952 slash line over his previous five games, Ohtani crushed a 441-foot, two-run homer in his first at-bat Monday to open the scoring for Los Angeles. He went on to notch his third straight multi-hit game and added a pair of steals for good measure, giving him four thefts over his past four games. It took Ohtani nine games as a Dodger before he hit his first long ball, but he's since gone deep 11 times -- including four times over his past three games -- to take over the major-league lead in that category. He's also tied for second in the majors with 31 runs, tied for sixth with 27 RBI and leads all of baseball with a 1.139 OPS. In addition, Ohtani has nine stolen bases, putting him on the verge of becoming the league's first player with double-digit homers and thefts this season.
Dodgers' Alex Vesia: Gets save chance in Phillips' stead Rotowire 7 HRS AGO Vesia earned a save against the Marlins on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect ninth inning.
When Evan Phillips (hamstring) was placed on the injured list Sunday, there arose uncertainty about whom Dodgers manager Dave Roberts would turn to when the next save chance came up. The answer turned out to be Vesia, who has been arguably the team's best reliever (outside of Phillips) this season with a 1.56 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB over 17.1 innings. The southpaw handled the opportunity well, retiring the side in order on 13 pitches, nine of which were strikes. It's worth noting that the Marlins were due to send up two left-handed hitters among the first three batters in the frame (though both lefties were swapped for a righty pinch hitter), so that may have played into the Roberts' decision to call upon Vesia rather than a righty reliever. It's too early to assume that Vesia will be the primary closer while Phillips remains out, but he certainly appears to be in the mix for save chances along with Daniel Hudson and possibly Blake Treinen.
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Mixed results in season debut Rotowire 7 HRS AGO Buehler allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out four batters over four innings in a no-decision against Miami on Monday.
Buehler had a favorable matchup in his first major-league start since mid-June of 2022, as he squared off against the team with the third-worst record in baseball. That didn't seem to matter early, though, as the Marlins jumped on the right-hander for a pair of first-inning runs on a trio of singles. However, Buehler's fastball velocity averaged a solid 96.6 mph in the frame, per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, which foreshadowed him settling down to allow just one more run over the remainder of his outing. Not surprisingly, the 29-year-old wasn't pushed too hard in his return to the majors, as he was pulled after 77 pitches and four frames rather than being allowed to complete the fifth and qualify for the win. Assuming Buehler comes out of the start without any setbacks, Monday's outing will likely serve as a foundation on which he can build up to a higher pitch count moving forward. He's tentatively lined up to make his next start on the road in San Diego this weekend.
Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Headed to injured list Rotowire 11 HRS AGO Kelly has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Kelly fought off a groin issue nearly one week ago, but he'll be shut down for at least the next 15 days after picking up a new injury. The club has yet to comment on the length of Kelly's stay on the IL, however, the right-hander "didn't believe it would keep him out too long," per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. This move clears a roster spot for Walker Buehler, who is making his season debut Monday night against the Marlins.

Dodgers' Alex Freeland: Mashes way to Double-A Rotowire 1 HR AGO Freeland was promoted from High-A Great Lakes to Double-A Tulsa on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Freeland played exclusively at shortstop in 2023, but he played 11 games at shortstop, and six games apiece at second and third base this year before his promotion. The 22-year-old switch hitter slashed .346/.518/.593 with two home runs, five steals and significantly more walks (27) than strikeouts (16) in 23 games for the Loons.
Dodgers' Ben Casparius: Earns promotion Rotowire 1 HR AGO Casparius was promoted from Double-A Tulsa to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
The 25-year-old righty logged a 3.32 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 34:11 K:BB in 21.2 innings across five starts for the Drillers. Casparius boasts a wipeout slider, but he's older than the typical starting pitching prospect earning a promotion to Triple-A, and he has never had a walk rate below 11 percent above rookie ball, so he may fit best as a reliever long term.
Dodgers' Austin Gauthier: Bumped up to Triple-A Rotowire 1 HR AGO Gauthier was promoted from Double-A Tulsa to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
This ends up being a 25th birthday present for Gauthier, who has surprisingly played 21 of 24 games this year at shortstop. Most scouting reports have Gauthier pegged as a Zach McKinstry type who can play all over but fits best at second base. The most impressive aspect of Gauthier's profile is his batting eye, as he walked more than he struck out at Double-A in 2024 and 2023, as well as during his 2023 stint at High-A and his 2022 stint at Single-A. Gauthier slashed .280/.445/.488 with four home runs and two steals in 110 plate appearances prior to his promotion, but given that he was several years older than most of the best pitching prospects at Double-A, it's hard to fully buy into that level of production carrying over at Triple-A.
Dodgers' Jake Gelof: Promoted to High-A Rotowire 1 HR AGO Gelof was promoted from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga to High-A Great Lakes on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
The 22-year-old third baseman still hasn't played at an age-appropriate level in pro ball, but he was excellent as an older player at Single-A, slashing .310/.462/.494 with two home runs, three steals, a 23.1 percent walk rate and a 26.5 percent strikeout rate in 24 games. Gelof gets the benefit of heading to the Midwest League now that the weather has warmed up, so the expectation should be that he continues to excel at the plate, given his age, pedigree and defensive limitations.

Can LA go a week or even a DAY without a pitcher going on the IL? No great loss with Smelly, but Phillips hurts and depending on Rock and Scooter as “closers” is more than a bit frightening.
Train Wreck is the obvious choice, although I imagine Daisy wants to be extra careful with him considering his recent IL stints. And he obviously cannot close every day.
I saw the pitcher IL list for LA the other day on Twitter / X and it was / is staggering.
I’m surprised it didn’t take more than one post based on the character limits of that site.
Amazing this team has performed as well as they have thus far in ‘24.
I guess scoring a lot of runs gives them some leeway with the pitching.
Whether they can maintain both thru October still remains to be seen.
GO DODGERS!!!

Although this one is related to the back of his shoulder, that at least makes me as qualified as Roberts to diagnosis ailments. If they lean too heavily on Treinen, he'll break too.
