Friedman would have to hire that gifted field general, & I just ain't seeing it. For all the flak Mattingly caught here in LA, he was pretty much his own man. He argued with Ethier. He platooned Loney. He had to deal with Puig. Belisario's dependency problems. He made snarky remarks about Carl Crawford being brittle. I liked Don. That's old school. My way or the highway. But he was / is the ORIGINAL DDF and despite his gruffness was still not a very good manager, even for a great player. Sometimes, it just doesn’t translate. He was handed a VERY good team and anointed the job with ZERO managing experience at any level and that showed up time after time and led to his dismissal. Although working with significantly less, his time with the Marlins was also meh at best. It seems to me that a lot of the time, middle of the road players make much better managers than great players. Look at guys like our own Tommy Lasorda, Alex Cora, Mike Sciocia, Bret Boone - hell, even Rusty Baker. None of these guys were what most would consider in the same category as DiMaggio, Williams, Ruth, etc. But they all have been or continue to be successful managers. For all of Daisy’s regular season accomplishments, he’s just a junior version of Rusty and cannot get this team over the top when it counts the most. And his postseason blunders are well known and far too numerous to relist again, especially those that he tried on his own going off book. I continue to wonder and amaze at how he keeps getting extended, but I guess ownership is happy as long as the stands are full, which they continue to be. Another title isn’t going to squeeze more fans into a place that is near capacity most days and nights. And ownership knows that as well. GO DODGERS!!! And Lasorda inherited a team with Yeager, Garvey, Lopes, Cey, Russell, Baker, Monday, Smith, Sutton, John, Hooton, Rau, Welch, etc. He lost to the Yankees in both 1977 & 1978. He won in the >>>strike shortened<<< 1981 season. Then again on the most miraculous fluke team ever in 1988. In twenty years, Tommy won TWO championships. One a decade. He didn't win a single playoff GAME, let alone a championship after 1988. Yet Tommy is the second coming of Jesus. All he had to do was Xerox the lineup card.

I just hope we’re not stuck with Daisy for another decade plus. That would be a brutal joke played on all of us oldsters who have followed this team since we were kids. Can you imagine - 20 YEARS of this smirking, do nothing fool standing at the top step of the dugout with that same blank look on his face? Tommy was FAR from perfect, but you KNEW when he was pissed and so did his players, the opposition and the umps. Daisy looks like he’s wondering whether to go with the Big Mac or Quarter Pounder later that night. GO DODGERS!!!

Players and teams now with something new to bitch about - extended beer sales.
Since the pitch clock is proving its purpose in shortening game times, a number of teams and stadiums are now selling beer beyond the traditional seventh inning cutoff.
And that has other teams and players concerned about patrons having enough time to “sober up” in only an inning or two.
First of all - if you have enough money to get drunk at a ballgame, you can certainly afford an Uber or cab ride home.
Secondly, WHAT DID THEY EXPECT?!? Concessions account for a HUGE part of team revenues and especially beer, where their profits are around 90 - 95%.
Losing a half hour to forty five minutes per night of these sales would cost them tens of MILLIONS over an 81 home game schedule.
So OF COURSE to offset the shorter game times, they’re going to extend beer sales another inning and / or possibly up to the last pitch, which probably isn’t too far off.
We went to a game here in Cincy on Sunday of the opening weekend (couldn’t have been more than 10 large in the GAB on a sunny low 60’s afternoon, but I digress) and saw people coming down the aisle with brand new full beers in the ninth inning.
Do they think owners give a rats ass about drunk attendees? Not bloody likely when it affects their bottom line.
GO DODGERS!!!

April 10, 2023 08:08 PM Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Timeline bumped to May by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Gonsolin (ankle) isn't expected to make a return until sometime in May, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Gonsolin has been throwing bullpen sessions while traveling with the team, but his skipper's latest update isn't exactly what fantasy managers want to hear. Per Harris, the Dodgers expect it to be another 2-to-3 weeks until Gonsolin is cleared to go out on a rehab assignment, and he'll likely need at least a few appearances in the minors before being activated from the 15-day injured list.

Dodgers' Will Smith: Day off Friday Rotowire 32 MINS AGO Smith isn't starting Friday against the Cubs, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Smith has caught fire to start the season, slashing .333/.417/.641 through his first 11 games. He will enjoy an off day Friday as Austin Barnes takes over behind the dish and bats ninth.
Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: In starting lineup Friday Rotowire 36 MINS AGO Rojas (hamstring) is in the lineup Friday against the Cubs.
Rojas made an early exit from Wednesay's series finale against the Giants due to a cramp in his left hamstring, but all is well following Thursday's scheduled team off day. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh versus the Cubs and lefty Justin Steele.

How long does a sprained ankle need to heal? As someone who has sprained mine multiple times and even broke each once, I can attest that it doesn’t take THIS long. And I wasn’t a physically fit specimen at the times of these injuries, either. Something tells me there’s a bit more going on there than we’re being told. GO DODGERS!!!

Roberto Clemente hit a line drive that fractured Bob Gibson's ankle in '67 and he stayed in the game and pitched to three hitters and got two of them out before his ankle cracked. He only missed like six weeks and didn't lose a thing when he came back and led the Cards to the world championship. Is Katmann made of chiffon or what? I've had plenty of sprained ankles myself and I've never taken more than a few weeks before I was running again.

He was one tough son of a bitch.
