DDF was saying that it's time for Vargas in 2023 and that he'll get a look. So, pencil him at 3rd.
He also said that being that Judge is out there Mookie could play 2B.

@jaysonst
Mookie Betts to 2B in LA?
"He's open to it." And with a certain 62-HR RF available in free agency, "we're keeping all options open," Dave Roberts tells me & @dougglanville on an amazing new Starkville.

Doc on Miguel Vargas on the Starkville Pod:
"Miguel Vargas is someone who next year is going to play for us a lot. He needs a look, he needs a runway and we're gonna do that for him."
Miggy szn 2023.

@dmac_LA
Dave Roberts on the Starkville pod when asked about the Dodgers interest in Jacob deGrom and Justin Verlander:
"There's certainly interest...i'm trying to be sensitive to payroll, but i'll take Verlander and deGrom"

@dmac_LA Doc on Miguel Vargas on the Starkville Pod: "Miguel Vargas is someone who next year is going to play for us a lot. He needs a look, he needs a runway and we're gonna do that for him." Miggy szn 2023. Keep Mook in RF - a TOTAL waste of speed, arm and accuracy to bases and the plate if he plays second base, which he didn’t over-impress in his appearances there this year. Judge could be the next Uncle Albert - he’s only one year younger and I can see him declining in two or three years and be an albatross years seven and eight or more. That money could do a LOT more in our area of NEED - like another front line starter - Kersh will undoubtedly take his usual dump to the IL at least once or twice. The left side of the infield. I’d love to see Rusty retire a Dodger, but only at the right price. Plus, I’d miss his SMOKIN’ better half. And he can’t play third every day. Short stop? Big mistake not locking Trea up for additional years when we first got him. Pretty much looking like that ship has sailed. No one in the minors we can bring up. Free agents are going to be costly. Shame management made the big error of keeping Bells and letting Seager go. I still think Bells has something in the tank - his D is still top shelf. But can he re-discover that killer swing and get back to the .300’s, with 35 - 40 HR’s and 80 - 90 RBI’s? Somebody will take that shot for a year or two and if he does bounce back, he’ll get paid for multi-years. I hope it’s still in blue, but again, that ain’t looking too good, either. Like nono said, Frogman will find a few scrap heap relievers like he usually does and they’ll figure out the rest, most likely without OUR input or ideas. GO DODGERS!!!

Justin Verlander reportedly seeking three years & 130 million dollars. Yup. Max Scherzer part 2.
The Astros don't want to guarantee the third year.
Please, Dodgers. Don't do it.

At 43 million dollars a year, the Dodgers could almost get both Dansby Swanson & Carlos Rodon. I figure the two of them might fall between 45-50 million per. Address two areas of need. Not just one.
Verlander isn't that ace to lead us to the Promised Land. We saw how that worked out with Scherzer. And it was our hitting that failed us. That & the fielding & bullpen.

I think that would be a mistake. Martinez is in his mid-thirties, has shown signs of decline, ONLY DH's. Do the Dodgers give him a day off when Smith or Muncy DH?

To me Muncy is way over hyped and I love JT but is another of these guys that disappears in post- season. JD and Correa are on my wish list. The hurdle is that they're Boras clients.

Keep in kind Friedman's emphasis on versatility & "optionality" though. He's not going to want a 35 year old DH who hit 12 homeruns last season.

The thing is that he's a clutch hitter hitting in the middle of the order and has hit in post- season unlike those two. The versality definitely plays up with position players but at DH no to zero versatility is needed and both JT and Muncy are DHs. Muncy can probably play a little 3rd and 1st but not for an extended period because he sucks. Boras is an obstacle but if the rumors were right they wanted him at the deadline but the Dodgers felt the BoSox were asking for too much for a rental.

I'm hearing that the Dodgers are going to be frugal and watch their wallet this off- season because they're positioning themselves up for a run at Ohtani in free agency. We've seen that Asians and mostly Japanese players really play well in to the LA market so I don't doubt that. Wonder where he'll go at the deadline.

Problem with that line of thinking is every team out there is probably planning to back the Brinks truck up for Ohtani. Not like he's a lock to become a Dodger. Be funny if some of these teams held off this off-season for Ohtani and he signs an extension in Anaheim, lol...
