The Mets have to be trying to restructure the contract again or this would already be done. Either way, Correa will be a very wealthy man. I bet he spends more time on the IL than IF. Healthy legs are a pretty significant part of playing baseball, especially the infield. If he can’t pass a physical now, what’s he going to be like a couple of years into that lottery contract? Any surgical procedure will likely require months of rehab and even if done in the off season, it could cost them regular season games. It’s obviously not MY money, but I’d say hard pass if a dude failed not one, but now two physicals. GO DODGERS!!!

IMO, Friedman only does that if Correa takes a contract like the Twins gave him. He opted out of that contract.

Just read Correa had an incident this past September. He was sliding into second base & got hit. He said his ankle went numb.
Gadzooks! This sounds eerily familiar.

The longer Correa's contract takes to finalize, the less he gets.

The Dodgers are still trying to decide what to do with Trevor Bauer. One site raised the possibility of a trade. Why had that escaped my attention?! They could dump his salary & maybe take on someone else after the trade deadline.
In investigating the fine print of Bauer's contract, we're pretty much screwed there too. Trevor can veto any trade to an AL club before the All-Star break. Which effectively eliminates better than half of baseball. Subtract the AL. Now subtract teams in our own division, teams already soured on Bauer, teams out of the race, teams who can't, or won't, offer an attractive enough package. What we would be left with is clubs we may need to beat, or dumping him just to be rid of the guy.
If the Dodgers subsidize a team to make a couple months of him more attractive to a potential suitor, then they leave themselves with that much less room to improve for the stretch run.
Keep the asshole. At least until the All-Star break. We'll need help for when Kershaw goes down. How many years did the Dodgers put up with Puig, & they kept winning. Trevor pitches every fifth day.

Fansided has this weepy article about Mookie missing his teammates from the 2020 Series. It lauds the Padres for the team they've built. Seems like San Diego has had a HUGE turnover to get that author's respect.
Welcome JD Martinez from the 2018 Series & let's get on with it.

Still no news on Correa.

One thing about Correa that Friedman would love is he has one stolen base in two attempts over the last four years. I just read it's because he protects that ankle. No one can be that slow. Especially someone who played shortstop. That injury is already affecting his game.

Doctor weighs in on Carlos Correa’s ankle as deal with Mets remains on hold
By Abbey Mastracco
New York Daily News • Dec 29, 2022 at 2:14 pm
It’s been more than a week since Carlos Correa and the Mets came to an overnight agreement on a 12-year, $315 million contract and six days since the club found something they didn’t like the shortstop’s medical examination. They Mets became the second team to cite something on Correa’s physical, with the San Francisco Giants being the first to raise concerns about his surgically-repaired right leg.
While playing in the minor leagues in June of 2014, Correa fractured his fibula and suffered what the Houston Astros called minor ligament damage in high in his right ankle. A plate was inserted to reduce the fracture and stabilize the ankle, which allowed the ligaments to heal.
The biggest question is what exactly the Mets and Giants found in the physical that was so alarming. Dr. Laith Jazrawi, a sports orthopedic surgeon at NYU Langone who has not treated Correa, said the two teams likely saw post-traumatic arthritis in the ankle. This could possibly lead to problems with the ankle within the next decade, which is well within the range of the 12-year contract the Mets offered Correa and the 13-year deal the Giants offered him before it fell apart and he agreed to terms with the team in Queens.
“Post-traumatic arthritis — meaning even if you stabilize it and make it perfect, there’s still an injury that’s impacted on the ankle,” Dr. Jazrawi told the Daily News in a phone interview on Thursday. “And there may be finding suggestive of some other issues there that may necessitate surgery later on, that doesn’t necessarily have a great outcome.”
Correa could suffer from degenerating cartilage degeneration later on his career, which may require another surgery. This could be what gave the Mets and Giants some trepidation.
“Sometimes you can clean it out, right? But that’s an issue that they don’t want to have to deal with because it’s unpredictable,” Dr. Jazrawi said. “Once you have sort of arthritis set it in, it’s unpredictable how the athlete will respond to it, and it’s a degenerative process.”
Dr. Jazrawi, who serves as the team physician for NYU and LIU athletics and was named a top doctor his field by New York Magazine in 2013, said athletes who incur similar injuries and undergo similar procedures sometimes require additional procedures to clean out damaged cartilage or to repair holes in the cartilage.
The outcomes of those procedures differ from athlete to athlete. But if the Mets and Giants are already seeing signs of degeneration, then it would make sense that clubs would be inclined to reduce the number of years on the contract. This also explains why the Minnesota Twins medically cleared him to play last winter after he signed as a free agent — arthritis may not have appeared yet, or may not have been as significant.
Late last season with the Twins, he appeared injured after a player slid into his right leg and hit the plate, but he missed no time. Dr. Jazrawi said this is not a warning sign or any reason for concern.
“That’s not a big deal,” he said. “You can take the plate out if you want, if the plate is irritating you or anything like that. That’s not what the issue is. There are probably some findings on the X-ray that they’re concerned with, and the MRI, which showed, probably, some other issues with the cartilage.”
Correa has not missed any time with any right leg or ankle injuries since it was repaired. He did sprain his left ankle in 2015 and spent time on the injured list in 2018 and 2019 with lower back injuries, but the right leg has not been a factor for him throughout his eight-year major league career.
A year after he underwent surgery, he made his heralded MLB debut and was named the AL Rookie of the Year. The 28-year-old Puerto Rican is a two-time All-Star who helped the Astros win the 2017 World Series.
Should Correa and the Mets work out a deal, he will move to third base. But until then, the staring contest continues.

How much do you figure Julio Urias gets on his next contract? This is assuming he stays healthy. He's set to earn 13 million dollars this coming season. Then he'll be a free agent. The Dodgers are predicted to pursue Shohei Ohtani. But that shouldn't come at the expense of Julio. Bauer will mercifully be off the books. Maybe Kershaw too. We have to keep Urias. None of us wants a 15 year contract though. Love to see him stay in Blue, but he will be costly - I’m going to guess $30 + mil a year, based on what I have seen go to a 40 + year old who had a career year coming off Tommy John and another dude who spends almost as much time on the IL as Kersh. Number of years will be the tricky part. But you just KNOW some team will pony up a seven to ten year deal. I don’t see LA as one of them, especially for a five or six inning starter. GO DODGERS!!! Agree, especially since he is a Boras client. The only other Boras client is Gatorade and I remember them trying to move him but couldn't because of a physical. That as well as probably them viewing Buehler as the ace but then again who knows since they have a lot of right handed arms coming up.

And anyhow, Ted Williams was an asshole till he grew up and became a heck of a nice guy. Red Sox fans had mixed feelings about him. "But even the fans who didn't like him would riot if the Sox had traded him. I want Trevor back, he's been cheated out of 1-1/2 seasons as it is!

If the Dodgers are weary of public pressure and want to appease the rated- PG crowd then they can attach a prospect and move him to Pittsburgh for that Bryan Reynolds guy who had a down year hitting but is a switch hitting center fielder.

Yeah, we for sure need a replacement CF for Cody. And we'll have to face this simple fact: our three red hot pitching prospects, Bobby Miller, Ryan Pepiot and Gavin Stone, we simply don't have room for all of them. One of them has to go. It might be a sad moment, but remember the Dodgers' starting rotation history, dating back to the early 50s: The Dodgers have always had great rotations, and new pitchers have always replaced the old ones.

One problem with that. Reynolds is under team control until 2026. We would have to send one helluva prospect. Maybe multiple prospects.
