Source familiar with the three-way Boston/Los Angeles/Minnesota trade said the sides are “making progress,” and while a deal isn’t likely to be finalized any earlier than Friday, it’s still “more likely to happen than not.”

"ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Thursday, citing sources, the players or the amount of money the Red Sox are sending the Dodgers to cover part of the three years and $96 million remaining on Price’s contract could be amended, or that Boston and Los Angeles theoretically could opt for a two-team trade or involve a third team other than Minnesota. The Twins reportedly are to receive veteran pitcher Kenta Maeda as part of the original deal. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, who reported Thursday the Red Sox now might ask for an additional player and/or money to complete the trade, later noted one alternative would be for the Dodgers to acquire a prospect from another club, presumably to flip to Boston. Sources told Rosenthal talks between the Red Sox and Twins regarding Graterol’s value are “going slowly,” suggesting a resolution might not be imminent. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman echoed those sentiments Friday morning while adding talks between at least the Red Sox and Twins will continue throughout the day. According to Heyman, the Red Sox now are believed to be looking for another prospect in addition to Graterol." The longer this goes the more convoluted it seems to get. One or more of the 3 teams involved is gonna say the hell with it and want to nix the whole thing.

It seems it should be as simple a matter of trading a prospect other than Graterol to get this thing done, but there is much fine print and contingencies involved. It sounds like the Sox still want Graterol. They just want another player too. The Twins must have known he was damaged goods & were trying to pull a fast one to get a very serviceable pitcher in Maeda. This is totally on them. Now, will they up their offer? Or do we need another team? I would be extremely hesitant to take on more money for Price. He's a big question mark. |

It most likely would be the Twins since it was reported that the Red Sox want an additional top 10 prospect from them. |

Wonder what the players involved are thinking throughout this trade debacle? I'd imagine Pederson and Verdugo probably hope the deal gets called off. Not sure what Betts, Price or Maeda would prefer other than probably really like to know where the hell they're playing this year.
