Through 84 games. .250-15-59 / .368 / .471 / .839 w/ a 117 OPS+. Last year he posted .249-34-100 / .393 / .496 / .889 w/ a 134 OPS+. Pretty good. $330,000,000 worth of good? No, IMHO.
The best player in baseball though (Mike Trout) is batting .297-22-52 / .452 / .606 / 1.057 w/ an OPS+ of 181. Harper has a career OPS+ of 137. Trout's is 175. In no single season has Trout approached 137. His lowest ever OPS+ was 168. He did that twice, in 2012 & again in 2014.
Shohei Ohtani has 561 plate appearances in his brief career. 500 at bats. Almost the equivalent of an entire season. .290-34-96 / .359 / .560 / .919. An OPS+ of 146.
Harper = massive overpay.

I guess the pencil pusher pocket protectors really do know what their doing after all. Certainly would have been nice to see him in blue, but not shedding too many tears he’s not. GO DODGERS!!!

The thought of Harper at the Ravine excited me but on what the Dodgers were offering him, a short term deal, not what the Phillies forked up. I love what the front office is doing with the team and not spending on those big contracts that haven't equaled championship for their teams but rather hamstrung them. Good luck to Harper but glad we didn't fall for it.

Thank you Mike Trout, for the refresher last night. Now we know why you got 100 million dollars more than Harper.

WATCH: Mike Trout fires 98.6 mph throw home from center field to get Max Muncy out Mike Trout shows off his arm against the Dodgers by Shanna McCarriston @shanna_mcc 7 hrs ago • 1 min read Mike Trout is at it again. On Tuesday night, Trout took a brief break from showing off his ability at the plate to remind everyone of his strong arm. It all did not end well for L.A.'s Max Muncy, who was running the bases in the second inning and became of a victim of a 98.6 mph throw from center field. The eight-time MLB All-Star, who seemed unfazed by his own athleticism, fired that throw to catcher Dustin Garneau from 261 feet away. www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/watch-mike-trout-fires-98-6-mph-throw-home-from-center-field-to-get-max-muncy-out/After the throw that left the baseball world in awe, Trout went back to doing what he does best. He hit his 33rd home run of the year -- and 11th in 13 games -- putting him at 273 career dingers. The 27-year-old has 80 RBIs, 78 runs and a batting average of .298 in 2019.

.254-26-90 / .374 / .492 in 543 plate appearances. Gives Bryce an OPS+ of 120. Trout (not counting tonight) is at .298-41-96 / .444 / .666 in 529 plate appearances. Gives Mike an OPS+ of 189. Cody Bellinger is at .317-42-97 / .415 / .671 in 519 plate appearances. An OPS+ of 180. Harper is sure to pass 30 homers & 100 RBI's. His overall numbers are underwhelming for a franchise player though.

Kinda makes ya think the front office boys knew what they were doing by offering more over a shorter period. If I’m Harper, though, I take the LA offer, play my three years, maybe win a ring or two, then I’m retiring on my own island. But that’s just me. GO DODGERS!!!

Going for the sure thing was a smart move on their part. Bryce could get hurt. Boras was dueling for bragging rights too. It also maybe points out they weren't sure about Harper maintaining his performance. Philly was stupid.

Speaking of massive overpays, Manny Machado is batting .138-2-7 / .291 / .246 in 79 September plate appearances. This after batting .221-2-8 / .289 / .337 in 114 August plate appearances. Last year he hit .315-24-65 / .387 / .575 as an Oriole. He hit .273-13-42 / .338 / .487 as a Dodger.
Bryce Harper has worked his line up to a very respectable .257-33-108 / .374 / .501. An OPS+ of 123.
For comparison, Max Muncy is hitting .249-34-96 / .369 / .515.
Mike Trout's season is over & it ended with the above quoted numbers; .291-45-104 / .438 / .645 in 600 plate appearances.

MASSIVE failure if he continues down this road for the next nine. GO DODGERS!!!
