Speaking of massive overpays, Manny Machado is batting .138-2-7 / .291 / .246 in 79 September plate appearances. This after batting .221-2-8 / .289 / .337 in 114 August plate appearances. Last year he hit .315-24-65 / .387 / .575 as an Oriole. He hit .273-13-42 / .338 / .487 as a Dodger. Bryce Harper has worked his line up to a very respectable .257-33-108 / .374 / .501. An OPS+ of 123. For comparison, Max Muncy is hitting .249-34-96 / .369 / .515. Mike Trout's season is over & it ended with the above quoted numbers; .291-45-104 / .438 / .645 in 600 plate appearances. I’ll give you respectable on Harper. But not at $30 + mil a year. MASSIVE failure if he continues down this road for the next nine. GO DODGERS!!! Those are two major bullets the team dodge, thank God!

Only one guy of the top 10 contracts handed out is going to post- season. Glad were staying away from the big contract. But also some of these guys are still stars and they are not being showcased in post- season. Something the league needs to consider.

All but one (maybe two with Arenado) are horrible contracts. And Nolan wouldn't be the first overpaid Rockie, based a lot on playing half his games in that joke of a ballpark.

It’s mind boggling what a mediocre player can make these days, even in a small market. $225 million for Votto? And he plays in one of the most hitter friendly sandboxes in the league. CRAZY!!!
GO DODGERS!!!

Both Harper & Machado closed out their meaningless first seasons with big series against teams also playing out the string. Bryce went 5-15 w/ a double, triple, homerun & 5 RBI's versus the unmotivated Marlins. He wraps up his first season in Philly batting .260-35-114 / .372 / .510. A 125 OPS+. His team finished 81-81 / .500. 16.0 back of the Braves.
Other side of the continent, Machado went 6-11 w/ a double, 2 homeruns & 3 RBI's against the Dbacks. They still got swept. Manny's final line is .256-32-85 / .334 / .462. An OPS+ of 109. The Pads go 70-92 / .432. 36.0 games behind the Dodgers.
$630,000,000 just doesn't buy what it used to. Remember when Philadelphia was rumored to be in the market for BOTH these guys? That would have been pretty funny.

Holy cannoli! 20 - 25 years ago you could get close to buying a WHOLE team (other than the Yanks & Dodgers) for that. Damn inflation! GO DODGERS!!!

Not sure how much of his own money went into that.

Dodgers are definitely winning the free agent battles.

Nationals fans troll Bryce Harper following team's stunning NLDS win over Dodgers The franchise didn't win a single playoff series with Harper by Chris Bengel @cbengelcbs 4 hrs ago • 1 min read The Washington Nationals shocked the baseball world when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday night. The Nats hadn't won a playoff series since coming to the D.C. During Bryce Harper's tenure with Washington, the team lost four times in the NLDS. Harper left the Nationals this past offseason to sign a 13-year, $330 million deal with the division rival Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies underachieved during the 2019 season and missed the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. With that in mind, Nationals fans took time out of their celebration to troll Harper on social media after the team advanced to the NLCS. www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/nationals-fans-troll-bryce-harper-following-teams-stunning-nlds-win-over-dodgers/Nationals fans weren't exactly pleased when Harper left the team to sign with the enemy. It appears that they definitely still hold a grudge and enjoyed the success that the team was having without him.
