Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Starting All-Star Game

Ryu has been announced as the starting pitcher for the National League in the All-Star Game, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Time reports.
Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts will be managing the National League squad, and he's named one of his own as the starter of the Midsummer Classic. Ryu has been stellar on the hill this season for the Dodgers, posting a 1.83 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with a 94:7 K:BB over 103 innings.

Ryu allowed three hits and one walk over six shutout innings and had one strikeout during Wednesday's 5-1 win at Colorado. He did not factor in the decision.
Ryu continued his season-long dominance but wasn't able to notch his 12th win since the Dodgers didn't break onto the scoreboard until the ninth inning. The 32-year-old has a 1.66 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 117:16 K:BB through 135.2 innings and lines up to face the Cardinals early next week.

Wish they could have scored for him. Strasburg is piling up wins right now but Ryu should be leading with that ERA.
Good job yesterday, I believe he got lit up the last time he was in Colorado.

Ryu (neck) doesn't believe he'll be on the 10-day injured list for long, and he doesn't expect to need a rehab start, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Ryu was placed on the shelf Friday due to neck soreness, but the issue isn't expected to keep him out for long. There's a chance he'll miss just one turn through the rotation, though a timetable for his return should become more clear in the coming days.

Very cute! Strassburg got lit up big time by the Snakes today. Didn’t even make it through the fifth before giving up nine earned runs. Arizona seems to really have his number this year. GO DODGERS!!! |

Ryu’s season is becoming historical. It’s as good as any of the the top 5 or 10 ever. Hopefully he can finish and take CYA.
His one bad outing makes it even more remarkable.

Does anyone know if Ryu quit smoking cigarettes? Just wondering if that happened. Guy is the best pitcher in the league right now, Not sure - he does look a little bit “chubbier”. Whatever he’s doing, he’s doing right. A great mix of pitches, nothing overpowering, looks very comfortable and nothing seems to bother the dude. Has there ever been a starter with an ERA less than one for the season? Ryu has a pretty decent shot if he continues to throw seven or eight inning shut outs like his last couple. GO DODGERS!!! |
