Does anyone know if Ryu quit smoking cigarettes? Just wondering if that happened. Guy is the best pitcher in the league right now, I'd just about have to have a cigarette after his wife & I don't even smoke.

Whatever he’s doing, he’s doing right. A great mix of pitches, nothing overpowering, looks very comfortable and nothing seems to bother the dude. Has there ever been a starter with an ERA less than one for the season? Ryu has a pretty decent shot if he continues to throw seven or eight inning shut outs like his last couple. GO DODGERS!!! There was some guy with an ERA of 1.01 during the dead ball era. Leonard? Then Gibson had his 1.12 in 1968.

In reality he has lost weight since he came to LA. hes a really good athlete, and i heard he was trying to quit smoking when he came here. I think he did, just not sure.

Right now CYA has to be Ryu, hands down.
12-2 1.45 0.93 whip
An incredible season. And this isn’t a fluke. Last year he had a 1.97 ERA in about just a half season.
He’s getting 30 mill per season next year.

I was just kinda referring that most people gain a little weight when they stop smoking and in today’s broadcast his cheeks looked a little “chipmunky”. If he did quit, it can only help him. Nasty habit I’m glad I let go of shortly after high school. $2.00 - $2.50 for a carton of ten was better spent putting gas in the car & cruising for chicks. I can’t begin to imagine pay $8.50 for a PACK these days. GO DODGERS!!!

I'm sure he'll get that amount of money and will earn it. I do think it might not be from the Dodgers since the young guys are in line to fill spots but if they let him walk then there will be 2 spots to fill instead of 1 with Hill also moving on.

Figure May and Urias go into the rotation if Ryu leaves. Hope he stays though. We'll see what happens with Maeda too.

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Throws seven scoreless Rotowire 13M ago
Ryu (12-2) tossed seven shutout innings while allowing five hits and one walk with four strikeouts across seven innings to earn a victory against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Clearly, Ryu has recovered from his neck issue, as he dropped his ERA to a ridiculous 1.45. Opposing hitters are batting just .221, which is a great number, but even more impressively, Ryu has walked only 17 batters while striking out 121. In another year of power explosion, he's also allowed just 10 homers. Ryu, who will pitch next at the Braves on Saturday, owns a 0.93 WHIP and 121 strikeouts in 142.2 innings this season.

Ryu has given up more than 2 ER ONCE this season. That was the clunker he had in Colorado back in June.
I always hate to do this but I will anyway just for fun. Take that game out and here are his numbers.
ERA: 1.04 WHIP 0.89

Take that game out and here are his numbers. ERA: 1.04 WHIP 0.89 Yowza! Just goes to show how much of a disadvantage pitchers are forced into when playing at that nuthouse. It’s truly amazing that we have the only visiting team no-hitter that was ever thrown there and how Nomo accomplished that will always remain a mystery. I always wondered if it had been constructed as a dome if that might have had any effect on the way balls seem to travel there or if the altitude in Denver alone would have still “overrode” an indoor stadium. Coors also has one of those wacky, uneven outfields where a lot of singles turn into doubles and doubles into triples. And the humidifier or humidor they “supposedly” use on ballls doesn’t seem to have much, if any affect on them - especially the ones Rawlings is producing these days. Then again, as they say and I have heard - chicks love the long ball. GO DODGERS!!!

If we subtract the Colorado game, this was Ryu's worst start of the year. Chin up. You still have your wife.

Ryu's run took a severe beating tonight. Six earned runs in 4.1 innings. Three homers allowed. One a grand slam. He departs with a 1.95 ERA & a runner at second that belongs to him.
I'd like to take this opportunity to comfort his wife.
Oops! That run scored too. 2.00 ERA.

I will continue to be concerned until the opposite happens. He seemed to struggle last year in the World Series against a good hitting team. My concern is that his velocity doesn't play up and when location isn't there it gets ugly. No one is perfect and hopefully this is just a misstep in a long season. Let's go Ryu!

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Gives up three homers in loss
Rotowire Aug 24, 2019
Ryu (12-4) allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out seven and taking the loss in a 10-2 loss to the Yankees.
Solo shots by Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez put Ryu behind, but Didi Gregorius' fifth-inning grand slam accounted for the most significant damage against the Dodgers' starter. It's a second straight poor start from Ryu, who has seen his ERA inflate from 1.53 to 2.00 over his last three outings. He still owns a 0.98 WHIP and 133:19 K:BB heading into his next start versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
