But, really, what's up with Joe Kelly! Besides the fact that he sucks? I have no clue what Kasten and company saw in this guy that made them think he was worth $25 mil over three years. He has and never will be an “ace” with a lifetime ERA around four (and climbing based on his performance thus far in blue). And yes - he DID and DOES deserve to be booed at home when he comes in like yesterday, can’t even record an out and turns a blowout into a close game requiring a five out save from Jansen. Thank God he got two of those outs on one pitch and an unbelievable throw from Cody. I think we all remember what has happened when Kenley has been asked for multi-innings in the last couple of years. It hasn’t worked out all that well and very easily could have been a factor in our WS loss to the Stros in 2017. He has looked very hittable so far this year and has given up more than a few bombs to .200 hitters. Kimbrel should be a top priority and a multi-year contract shouldn’t be out of the question with Jansen being in his final year. If he wants to re-sign, he may have to do so knowing that his role may be changing and sharing closing duties is likely. But honestly - what team in the league wouldn’t LOVE to have two elite closers? Rotate them every night or let them close two in a row each. They’d remain fresh either way and be pretty much a lock for postseason success & advancement. GO DODGERS!!! If we were to sign Kimbrel, he'd have the weight of the Earth on his shoulders. He's refused to sign with any team if he can't have his way, and he better pay immediate dividends or fans will boo him louder than they ever booed Barroid Bonds. Kelly has had a couple of good outings, but it seems only like every other one and that just won't do. Who knows what the Mets might have done aside from Codys two heroics in RF? His ERA is just under 4, which is mediocre, but he's pitching his way out of the bigs. There's no two ways about it! We have to demand Mark Guthrie, Scott Radinsky and Antonio Osuna come out of retirement. Those three could shut down a rally anytime. But of course that'll never happen, so two good relievers are our only real priority, as locked and loaded as we are otherwise.

How about the legendary Joe Beimel? Troy from WV would be planning a jail break or break parole for that guy!
I don’t pretend to have the answers for our pen. But I do know what we are getting out of the current crop isn’t going to cut it in October.
Kelly, Floro, Yumpin Yimini, Joan, Sham-Wah, Ferguson, etc. could ALL be replaced and I wouldn’t lose any sleep.
I’ve still yet to see them utilize Urias or Stripling for long relief as we were advised was the plan. Why not throw Strip out there yesterday after Kenta’s six? I’d consider three innings “long relief”.
Same with Julio now that he’s back. We aren’t going to have a lot (if any) complete games - it’s just not Doc’s style.
So if we’re only getting six or seven each and every night, there should be plenty of opportunities for Ross & Julio to get us two or three and not blow leads and / or games like most of the pen has done so far this year.
And if they’re not going to be utilized as proposed, why keep them on the roster? I know we can never have too much pitching and these guys are available starters if someone goes down, but sitting in the pen watching the other five or six jokers ceding runs like it’s batting practice isn’t doing either Strip or Urias any good.

I think Joc's power plays well in a park like Nationals' Park for someone like Sean Doolittle or similar. Kimbrel would be fantastic but to get him to fit into the threshold some guys like Joc, Kike or Taylor who are the same, Cingrani etc. would have to be moved in my opinion. Also maybe someone like Barnes or Martin if Will Smith sticks. Rut row, Shaggy. Yumpin Yimini into a tie game. Three innings left, providing it doesn’t go extras. Where’s Urias for long relief?
Strip only threw one inning yesterday. What happened to “the plan”? What are they saving these guys for?
And a lead off walk to start - SMFH!!!

Followed up by another free pass by Floro. Can someone please explain the narcissistic thinking of Roberts?
What’s next? Jansen pitching three innings?

Who didn’t see that coming? Good grief - time to do a complete overhaul of this pen.
Good call, Doc - bring in Strip after the other clowns cough up four.
Has Urias been in a game since his reinstatement? Guess he must be in the crapper, even though he’s not been charged or found guilty of ANYTHING!

He pulled Garcia after a leadoff walk, then pulled Floro for no good reason after a key K and then Alexandar... pretty predictable.

Might as well bring him in for another half-assed appearance. Maybe they can get the combined pen ERA up to double digits. GO DODGERS!!!

We would've probably have lost last nite anyhow, but it would be more likely 5-3, not 7-3. Not only did Roberts burn up the bullpen in a single half inning but for Urias, our only fresh horse, but the other half, he burned up the bench, sending up three pinch hitters! Did it not occur to him that we might need them in case the game went into extras? Now, we can't blame Roberts for the hitters not coming thru, I'll give him that. If only we could bring back Tommy Lasorda.

From the Mets' game wrap:
"As Alexander warmed, Conforto wandered back toward the visiting dugout, where injured teammate Robinson Cano offered him a quick scouting report: Expect a steady diet of sinkers from a pitcher looking to induce a double play.
Conforto called it “good advice,” as well he should. The lefty specialist’s second pitch was a thigh-high sinker that Conforto bashed the other way, sending it 374 feet over the left-field fence for his first career grand slam.
“I wasn’t looking for the grand slam,” Conforto said. “I was just looking to bring a run home, put us in the lead. That’s probably the approach you need to take.”

I know Dave is trying to get guys out of a funk but at some point guys have to question his philosophy. They work hard to keep a game close or win it and here comes Dave inserting guys into situations that they have struggled with. Why not use them in low leverage situations until they build their confidence back up, geez.

They work hard to keep a game close or win it and here comes Dave inserting guys into situations that they have struggled with. Why not use them in low leverage situations until they build their confidence back up, geez. Probably because they haven’t done much better in those. Look no further than the Monday night game. If these guys can’t pitch or get outs with a five or six run lead, how are they expected to hold a tie or keep the games within a run or two? The answer is - they can’t. I don’t trust a single player in the pen at this point, and that includes Jansen. Unless we can continue to put up seven or eight runs each night (and we all know that’s not going to happen), this team is in deep do do. And we certainly can’t expect our starting five to throw eight or nine shutout or one / two run games every night. There have been very few games where our guys weren’t near 100 pitches (which seems to be Doc’s “limit”) after six or seven. Blow it up and start over, Kasten because the Barnum and Bailey Circus clowns you assembled this spring need to go back to their makeup and big red noses. GO DODGERS!!!

Just noticed a disturbing trend with Kelly. Yes, it can get even more disturbing.
In April he had just 2 walks in 13 innings. Then again, why walk when there are so many delicious pitches to hit?
This month they're still hitting him, but he's added bases on balls to his repertoire. 6 in just 5.1 innings. To a layman, such as myself, this would probably indicate a reluctance to challenge hitters with his weak-ass shit. Overall, in front of booing fans at home he has a 9.72 ERA & 2.16 WHIP. In front of wildly cheering crowds on the road it's 7.20 & 1.70. 3 homers allowed at Dodger Stadium. 1 on the road. His ERA for March-April was 8.31. It's 8.44 in May. But his WHIP'S have been 1.69 & 2.44. OB% allowed has been .383 & .447. That negates the drop in SLG% from .596 to .478. He's regressing. If he doesn't believe in himself why should anyone else?

When was the last time the BP didn’t give up a run?
Sure, Ferris didn’t have his best stuff tonight. But for God’s sake, down two certainly looked more doable than three.
And we’ve still got another three innings to look forward to from Cirque de Sucké.
