Kenley Jansen would be fine with Craig Kimbrel joining the Dodgers -- just not as their closer The Dodgers bullpen has had mixed results this season 20 hrs ago • 1 min read The Dodgers (25-14) may be off to a strong start this season, but the team needs help in the bullpen. The offseason acquisition of Joe Kelly hasn't gone too great for L.A. so far this season, and the team's closer Kenley Jansen is allowing more runs than he used to. For a closer look at the back end's struggles, here's Matt Snyder with more. But there is an available solution for the Dodgers bullpen, and that's free agent closer Craig Kimbrel. Kimbrel, who remains unsigned, has pitched nine seasons and has collected 333 career saves to go along with a 1.91 ERA. After June 2 (MLB Draft), teams will no longer have to forfeit a draft pick to sign him. Jansen, the Dodgers established closer, said he wouldn't mind Kimbrel as a teammate. "Why not?" Jansen told Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday. "We want to win a championship, right?" But Jansen also made it clear that he wasn't ready to give up the closing role to Kimbrel. "That's what I get paid for," Jansen told Hernandez. "I get paid for closing ballgames. Why should I have to do anything different? That's my question. It doesn't make any sense." Jansen, 31, has posted a 4.67 ERA and allowed four home runs over 17 1/3 innings this season. With an ERA approaching five, he’s asking “why he should have to do anything different?” How about AN ERA APPROACHING FIVE? I really like Jansen - he’s gone through a lot with his ticker issues and is still a force. But he isn’t what he used to be and I still feel that game he blew in the Houston WS (that very likely cost another title) remains in his head. That, along with the overuse / multiple innings has ultimately been his downfall. His previous dominance has been reduced to giving up moon shots to .200 hitters. Sharing closing duties with a guy like Kimbrel should be welcomed if he REALLY wants what’s best for the team and not just himself. Because those saves that were 99% automatic, Gange Game Over a few years ago are in the rear view mirror and I don’t see them returning any time soon, if ever. GO DODGERS!!!

I can understand Jansen wanting to be the guy but if someone else is better at that role, then sorry but you are not bigger than the team. Jansen has been very vulnerable to the long ball since last year and he isn't missing bats like he used to. Haven't given up on him yet but the trend is alarming.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Kimbrel is still unsigned. Does he want more money then he's been offered or what? In any case, our bullpen needs shoring up, and any jerk can tell that. I like Jansen too, but his arrogant question, "why should I do anything different?" is a head shaker. Serving up that grand slam last Sunday, he clearly needs to so SOMETHING different! His 12.7/9 K rate is great, but he's served up 4 homers in only 17 innings! That walkoff homer pitch to Renfroe last Sunday was right in his wheelhouse. Far too many of his pitches are right where the hitters want them, whereas before, he knew how to locate the ball at players' knees. Something is clearly wrong. Either he's hurt and isn't saying anything, or he's going the way of Mark Wohlers.

Seems he has decreased that demand. 2. He insists he has to be a closer which limits the teams he would go to. 3. Right now he costs a draft pick. Wait a month and he no longer does. 4. He’s going to be 31 shortly and he really wasn’t that good the end of last year. Walked everybody the whole 2nd half.

Holy shit. Thanks for the timely update. That seals it. We need to make a deal. We were waiting for Hill & Kershaw to get healthy so Stripling & Urias could go back to the pen. Now Julio might be gone.

Shoving isn't punching or kicking. Not to make it anymore palatable. At the very least it sounds like Julio gets a suspension & anger management classes.

Domestic battery arrest of Dodgers' Julio Urias could trigger suspension
By By Andy McCullough
May 14, 2019 | 11:40 AM
The arrest of Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias on suspicion of domestic battery could trigger a suspension from Major League Baseball and may jeopardize his future with the Dodgers.
Urias, 22, was arrested Monday evening after an incident at the Beverly Center shopping mall, and released on a $20,000 bond about four hours later. A Los Angeles police spokesperson was unable to provide The Times with more information about the incident or the condition of the alleged victim.
With the arrest, Urias could face punishment if the office of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred determines he violated the sport’s domestic violence policy. Urias is likely to be placed on administrative leave as early as Tuesday. The length of the leave can last up to seven days, but can be extended at the discretion of the commissioner’s office, according to baseball’s collective bargaining agreement.
“We are aware of the incident and are in the process of gathering the facts,” Major League Baseball said in a statement issued Tuesday morning.
The length of any suspension would be determined by Manfred’s office, through collectively bargained negotiations with the MLBPA. Roberto Osuna, then a reliever for the Toronto Blue Jays, received a 75-game suspension last summer after an arrest on suspicion of assault. Chicago Cubs infielder Addison Russell received a 40-game penalty last fall after allegations of physical and emotional abuse from his ex-wife. Boston Red Sox reliever Steven Wright served a 15-game suspension last spring after an arrest on misdemeanor charges of domestic assault and preventing a 911 call.
The investigation may take weeks. Osuna was placed on administrative leave May 8, 2018. MLB announced its suspension June 22.
An investigation does not guarantee punishment. Yasiel Puig was investigated after being involved in a Miami bar fight in November 2015, but MLB ruled Puig did not violate the domestic violence policy. Puig was not arrested in the initial incident.
Under the leadership of owner Mark Walter and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, the Dodgers have attempted to avoid employing players with a history of domestic violence allegations. In December 2015, trade talks with the Cincinnati Reds over star closer Aroldis Chapman broke down after Yahoo Sports unearthed a police report alleging Chapman fired a gun into his garage while arguing with a girlfriend.
Chapman was suspended for 30 games. The Dodgers backed away from acquiring Chapman, who eventually was traded to the New York Yankees. The Dodgers also avoided negotiations last summer with the Blue Jays about Osuna, who was traded to the Houston Astros.
A similar philosophy applied to their lack of interest in reliever Jeurys Familia, who was suspended for 15 games in 2017 after an arrest on suspicion of domestic abuse. Manfred’s office determined that Familia did not assault or threaten his wife on the night of the arrest.
“Nevertheless, I have concluded that Mr. Familia’s overall conduct that night was inappropriate, violated the policy and warrants discipline,” Manfred’s report read. The Dodgers issued a statement pertaining to Urias on Tuesday morning.
“We learned about the alleged incident this morning and are in the process of gathering information,” the statement read. “As a result, we have no comment at this time regarding the incident. However, every allegation of domestic violence must be taken seriously and addressed promptly, and we will cooperate fully with the authorities and Major League Baseball to ensure that that happens in this case.”
Some teams have parted ways with players after alleged incidents of domestic violence. The Blue Jays felt compelled to trade Osuna after his arrest; and never again did he pitch for them. The NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs released running back Kareem Hunt in November after video emerged of Hunt kicking and shoving a woman. Hunt was subsequently signed by the Cleveland Browns.

Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed pitcher Julio Urias was arrested on Monday night on suspicion of domestic battery, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. Urias, 22, has since posted bail and has been released from custody.

Can confirm reports that Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested last night on suspicion of domestic battery. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm PT at the parking structure of the Beverly Center in LA. Bail was set at $20,000.
7:55 AM - May 14, 2019
Urias, who has made nine appearances for the Dodgers this season, will likely be subjected to MLB's domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. Over the last 12 months, MLB has suspended Jose Torres (100 games), Roberto Osuna (75), and Addison Russell (40) for violating the policy. MLB also suspended San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer after he was caught on video pushing his wife to the ground.
Urias's arrest is the latest in a long string of poor behavior by the Dodgers and their players, dating back to Gabe Kapler's mishandling of abuse allegations in 2015. The Daily Beast reported last year that a Dodgers player had been accused of a sexual assault by a hotel maid, yet that the player remained in baseball. The team as a whole has also been the subject of an investigation by the Department of Justice due to their dealings on the international market.
