Dodgers' Will Smith: Snaps home run drought
Rotowire 13H ago
Smith went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in a win over the Rockies on Sunday.
Smith's solo shot in the eighth inning snapped a streak of 13 games without going deep. It was also his first extra-base hit in a brutal September in which the 24-year-old has gone 5-for-44 (.114) with 14 strikeouts. Despite the rough month, Smith remains one of the better hitting backstops in the National League, posting a .242/.318/.561 slash line with 14 homers and 37 RBI in only 50 games this season.
Dodgers' Corey Seager: Registers another multi-hit game
Rotowire 13H ago
Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a victory over Colorado on Sunday.
Seager collected his second hit of the game with a 428-foot shot to right center field in the seventh inning. The 25-year-old has now registered exactly two hits in each of his last six games, hitting an even .500 (12-for-24) with a pair of homers and eight RBI over that span. Seager is slashing .273/.336/.478 with 18 homers and 82 RBI in 129 games overall this season.
Dodgers' Cody Bellinger: Connects for grand slam
Rotowire 13H ago
Bellinger went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in a victory over Colorado on Sunday.
Bellinger made the most of his only hit of the game, launching a home run with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. The grand slam was the fifth of his career and 46th overall long ball this season. 27 of those homers have come at home, establishing a new franchise single-season record. Bellinger should get plenty of consideration on NL MVP ballots in recognition of his overall brilliance in 2019. In addition to the home run total, he is slashing .302/.404/.628 with 114 RBI, 118 runs scored, 14 steals and a 1.032 OPS in 151 games.
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Tosses quality start
Rotowire 14H ago
Ryu (13-5) took the win against the Rockies on Sunday, hurling seven innings and giving up three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out eight.
Both runs allowed by Ryu came on homers, but the southpaw otherwise stymied Colorado to pick up his second straight quality start and first victory in over a month. As has been the case most of the season, Ryu succeeded by controlling the strike zone, throwing 65 of 95 pitches for strikes and issuing no free passes for the second straight game. He also contributed with his bat, launching the first home run of his major-league career in the fifth inning. After a four-start stretch in which he surrendered 21 runs in 19 frames, Ryu has rebounded to allow just two runs over his last 14 innings. Though his Cy Young Award candidacy has taken a hit with his late-season slump, Ryu is likely to garner some votes as he leads the majors with a 2.41 ERA while ranking sixth with a 1.02 WHIP and second with a 1.23 BB/9. He'll wrap up his regular season with a road matchup against the Giants on Saturday.

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Named NL Player of the Week
Rotowire Sep 24, 2019
Seager was named National League Player of the Week on Monday.
Seager slashed .500/.524/1.000 with two homers and seven RBI for the week to earn the honor. He has gone exactly 2-for-4 in each of his last six games, approaching the franchise record of nine consecutive multi-hit games set by Pee Wee Reese in 1949. Seager is in the midst of his best month at the plate, batting .300 with six homers and 21 RBI through 18 games in September.

Dodgers' Hill takes on Padres auditioning for postseason spot
Rich Hill will be auditioning Tuesday night for the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park.
by FLM

Rich Hill will be auditioning Tuesday night for the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park.
The 39-year-old left-hander will start for the first time since Sept. 12 in a bid to make the Dodgers' post-season roster. The left knee that forced him to miss the start of the season is again troubling Hill, although he looked sharp in a simulated game while wearing a brace.
This will be the second time this season that Hill has launched a return at Petco Park. He made his 2019 debut against the Padres on May 4, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings.
"Rich will throw innings in San Diego and we'll go from there," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who plans to send Hill out again Sunday for four innings against the Giants in the regular season finale before deciding if the veteran will be on the post-season roster.
Hill (4-1, 2.68 ERA in 11 starts), who also missed time this season with a forearm strain, has a 6-4 career record against the Padres with a 3.12 ERA, a 1.038 WHIP and a .202 opponents' batting average in 12 starts. He has a 1-2 record with a 1.250 WHIP in four career starts at Petco Park. Hill we be opposed by Padres right-hander Ronald Bolanos (0-1, 5.79 ERA).
The Dodgers will be facing Bolanos for the first time. The 6-foot-2, 23-year-old Cuban was a member of the Padres' heralded 2016 international signing class.
Ranked the Padres' No. 15 prospect, Tuesday night will be Bolanos' fourth Major League appearance and third starts since being promoted to the Major Leagues on Sept. 3. In his debut at Arizona, Bolanos allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings.
In eight innings since, Bolanos has given up seven runs on eight hits and five walks with seven strikeouts. Three of the hits were home runs, accounting for five of the runs.
The Dodgers have a 10-6 edge on the Padres thus far this season, including a 4-2 record at Petco Park. The Dodgers are 5-2 against the Padres since the All-Star break after the Padres finished the first half by winning the last three games at Dodger Stadium in a four-game series.
On paper, it appears that the National League's Southern California rivals have little to play for starting Tuesday as the Padres host the Dodgers for the final three games of the season at Petco Park. In fact, both teams have much to play for.
The Dodgers have 100 wins. Atlanta has 96. The Dodgers need at least one more win -- and possibly two or three if the Braves finish strong -- to clinch the best record in the National League and home-field advantage going into post-season play.
"We're not done," said Roberts. "Every win counts. We have a lot to do."
The Padres want to show what they can do for interim manager Rod Barajas, who is 1-1 since taking over when Andy Green was fired Saturday just eight games shy of finishing his fourth season.
"It was great," Barajas said late Sunday afternoon after Seth Mejias-Brean's two-run walk-off homer in the 10th gave the Padres a 6-4 win over Arizona and presented Barajas -- who had managed Triple-A El Paso to three straight division titles and one Pacific Coast League championship in three seasons prior to joining the Padres as bench coach this season.
"It's only for these last eight games, but it means something," Barajas said. "I'm going to enjoy this opportunity. I'm going to try to take advantage of it." The Padres celebrated Barajas' first win in the clubhouse Sunday, which ended a 1-8 run that saw the Padres score only seven runs over the last six games while batting .146 as a team.

Guess they’re conceding home field for the World Series to either Houston or New York. Two games behind with six to play must be insurmountable. So sad . . .
GO DODGERS!!!

Home field advantage is a joke. If a team is superior, let them prove it by winning on any field. I prefer the way it used to be: the "advantage" of the first games of playoff series alternating every year.

Boston had HFA last year and again, celebrated on our field. You don’t get to 100 wins without more than a few away wins, but we have pretty much dominated in the Ravine this year and it’d certainly be to their advantage to at least try to achieve getting that extra game (if needed) there. Personally, I’d LOVE to see Tampa Bay in October. Short flight from Cincy and I’m guessing tickets will be readily available for reasonable prices. GO DODGERS!!!

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Rejoins lineup
Rotowire Sep 24, 2019
Muncy (quadriceps) is starting at first base and hitting second Tuesday against the Padres.
Muncy missed a pair of games over the weekend with a quad injury, but he's been cleared to rejoin the starting nine following Monday's day off. The 29-year-old, who is hitting just .160 with a .490 OPS in six games since returning from the injured list, will look to turn things around Tuesday as he faces right-hander Ronald Bolanos.
