Before I moved out of Idaho to move to Mesa, Arizona a year and a half ago, I had to leave my cat at the animal shelter. As upset as I was about that, it really was the right thing to do. If I'd tried to take him with me, he'd be yowling nonstop in the cage (he wouldn't let me give him a sedative), and all nite at the motel in Utah after the first day's travel and he'd fight me to get him back in the cage. When I finally arrived in Mesa, the first chance he'd get he'd bolt out the door and he'd become a feral cat and I'd never see him again and I"d be so much more depressed than I was. The folks at the shelter assured me that a lady was coming the next day looking for a cat so I know he'd be in a good home. I hope he's happy. We left our German Shepard in LA before moving to Tucson in 1977. I felt like shit about that. It was the second time I had to give up a dog because of my parents' wanderlust. But I felt much better when I saw our new house. It was on the outskirts of town. Our house was a corner lot across the street from Hell. Nothing but a freaking desert on the other side of the street. One night my brother killed a scorpion on our living room carpet. Ben never would have stood a chance in that place. My parents also picked the propitious month of May to make that move. We didn't miss any of the monsoon season.

I just got Sly this really nice warm pocket-pillow. I hope he uses it. It's outside, under a bench.

I'm afraid Sly is too dim to figure his new pillow out. Maybe Sleet, or a racoon, will show him.

The two we currently have as well as our previous two could never be misconstrued as intelligent. Crafty and calculating? Definitely. But not the sharpest knives in the drawer. GO DODGERS!!!

Glory was so smart. Smartest pet I ever had. A little orange tabby. Mom wasn't a pet person from her days of losing Pinky the Pig on a farm. She came home & asked if anyone had seen Pinky. The farmer said - "You're eating him." But Mom took a shine to Glory. I had to put her down in 2003 because of lymphoma. She was 14. That last night here Glory jumped up on the bed & tried to get comfortable next to my hip. God bless her that she finally jumped back down & hid in the closet. I cried after killing her. Threw all of her stuff out. There will never be another Glory. Tessa got me Sly for Father's Day 2004. He's a big goof. He terrorized the neighboring cats by his sheer size. He's never had to fight other cats. They just ceded territory. If I leave the door open a crack for the two of them to come in, Sly will literally stare at the small opening & figure - 'There's no way I'm fitting in there.' My lord! Are you really that stupid? Glory would jump in the refrigerator on hot days. One time I forgot about her. She was in there maybe 15 minutes. Then there was a loud crash & Glory appeared. Oops! Sorry about that.

Sleet has taken to curling up in a ball inside a blanket. She sleeps that way, at my feet. No matter how loaded I get, I have to keep in mind that ball is my cat.

Mine loves getting in between my legs when I sleep. She’ll even “paw” at my legs to get me to separate them for her “cradle”. Even when I get up four or five times a night, she patiently waits for me to get back in bed and under the covers before returning to her spot. She’s a bit of a load sometimes getting up and I basically have to roll her off under the covers and then slide back in under her. The things we do for our pets! GO DODGERS!!!

There's a little mouse in here. The other morning I let Sleet out & immediately I could hear her crying. I opened the door back up & she came trotting in. She laid a mouse on the floor. I could have let her kill the little mouse. Actually, what she was doing was flattering. She was sharing the kill. But I felt bad for the little mouse. Just a tiny thing. I tried using a dustpan to scoop it up & set it free again outside. Hoping Sleet hadn't hurt it too badly. It's been two days. I just saw it scurry across a hallway into the bedroom. It's still alive & doing well.
I just don't like killing things for sport.

They will “toy” with them for hours and when they finally “pin” them, it’s at least another ten minutes or so of batting them around before they eventually eat them. Izzie got a little too familiar with a spider last year that ended up biting her and putting us into a frenzy. By the time the vet got through with her, I swear her entire backside was raw, bloody & looked like he had just held her against a belt sander for ten minutes. It was simply amazing to watch her tend to her wound and watch it heal in what amounted to only four or five weeks. We truly wondered if she’d even / ever recover from it, but the little bugger bounced right back. She doesn’t mess with spiders anymore, tho. GO DODGERS!!!

I finally cut the plastic off my mattress, but left it on the box springs. Sly doesn't seem to want to jump on the bed anymore. That or he can't. Sleet was sleeping on top of me instead of the plastic.

So my little feller is dying. I took him to the vet. He hasn't looked good lately. Losing weight again. His face was crusty. What is that? He has a neurological disorder with his front paws. His legs are shaky. $637.00 later I find out he has a small mass in his stomach. Could be lymphoma. Could be another carcinoma. The vet is very sure it's some form of cancer either way. He's not a good candidate for a general anesthesia. He would need that for surgery.
Now I wait & try to make his life as pleasant as possible. I hope he gets to die here, at home. In bed with me. Like always.

I don’t think I’ve ever cried at a funeral; but I bawled like a little girl for both my kitties and my dog before them. Hope, like you, he stays comfortable and get to spend his last moments with you by his side. GO DODGERS!!!

"Your cat is 95 years old!" I had prefaced our meeting with how another vet tried ripping me off. But she gave me both sides of it. Pros & cons. I said I just want him comfortable.
