Just saw a video by Jessica Simpson for a song called Irresistible. Guess I never realized just how much MTV and others tried (and failed) to make her Britney II.
The entire song and video could have been done by Britney end it would have looked and sounded EXACTLY the same.
From the outfits to the dance moves to the replication of vocals (including the “processed” speaking and singing), their intent was blatantly obvious.
I’ve seen similarities with others, like actresses Mandy Moore and Lindsay Lohan and even, to some extent Christina Aguilera.
Christina has the best voice of all of them and has broken away from the “pop” genre.
Britney made a small fortune in a very successful career for a “middling” voice.
The others above? Not so much. And both Jessica and Lindsay’s “acting” careers aren’t earning them any Oscars.

She had a hit song Tommy Mattola stole from Mariah Carey. Then her vocals were really Christina Milian & Ashanti.

I think this is the one Mariah Carey wrote & Ashanti sang.
The real singer.
Of course the video is a rip-off of Goodfellas. But it's not like they put their name on it.

Pretty disappointing to see Garth Brooks fall COMPLETELY under the spell of the far left. I always knew he was a liberal, especially after seeing him arm in arm with that witch Pelosi.
But he’s treading on pretty thin ice these days with his announcement of his new Nashville bar WILL be selling Bud Light and anyone who doesn’t like it is an asshole.
Country music fans are far and wide Republican conservatives and are a decent factor in just how far the once most popular beer has fallen.
I really don’t think it’s a very good idea to start pissing off potential customers before his bar even opens.
He, Springsteen, Richard Marx and I’m sure many others are still some of my fav artists and I would never go so far as to delete them from my playlists or destroy the LP’s, tapes and CD’s of theirs that I own.
They are certainly allowed to express their opinions and feelings and I would never deny them that, whether I agree or disagree.
But sometimes I think they are pressured by management, promoters or even politicians to say and take positions that are the “PC” way and not necessarily their true belief.
I wish him luck with his new endeavors and investment. But I think this might be a hard sell in such a conservative town / genre and patronage may be a LOT less than expected once things get up and running.

Or maybe they just believe in what they say. Brooks scored major points with this heterosexual. I might even start drinking beer again.
Mike Lindell is a freaking nut. Please don't group Springsteen & Brooks with him. Pretty soon we'll be having fundraisers for Lindell, so he can conduct more investigations into the 2020 election. Guy's a loon.

I never liked or drank Bud Light to begin with, so their hiring of some whacked out tranny had zero effect on me. Musicians, athletes, actors, etc. are all entitled to their opinions and political affiliations; whether they align with mine or not is not a factor. I will still listen to and play their songs and go see their movies and games. Just like Lindell - sure, he went off the deep end; but he still made a helluva pillow that I continue to sleep on nightly. But much like the Alphabet Gsng and their “agenda”, I don’t want or need it shoved down my throat and calling a good deal of his fans “assholes” for their boycott of BL is a prime unnecessary example of that. I haven’t seen The Boss since the 90’s and while his shows used to be four plus hours of songs you know and can sing along with by heart, I don’t need to hear his derision of politician A -vs- his adoration of politician B. I go to concerts, movies and games to ESCAPE that insanity, if only for a few hours at a time. Brooks could have just as easily announced his new honky tonk would cater to and welcome “all” and would sell Bud Light and leave it at that. The “assholes” additional comment has and will do more damage than good in my opinion. GO DODGERS!!!

Yeah - this ain’t hurting his bank account any. And if the new place fails, there’ll be somebody or some group chomping at the bit to take the property off his hands for probably more than he’ll have invested. We’ve been to Nashville probably close to a dozen times and those buildings in the Broadway area don’t go up for sale too often and when they do, they don’t stay vacant too long. GO DODGERS!!!

Decades before Taylor Swift (panic’s paramour), there was Debbie Gibson. She was the second “Debbie” love of my life after the first dumped me shortly out of high school.
At 16, she broke into the music business writing, recording and producing her own songs and music via a small studio in her parents house on (in 🤣) Long Island.
Being a sap for cute blonds, catchy upbeats and painful ballads, I was hooked immediately, although admittedly a little “pervy” for a 24 year old “man”.
My wife took me to see her in 1989 for my 27th birthday and last Saturday night, we had the privilege of seeing and meeting her nearly 34 years later.
For a woman now in her early 50’s, she put on a helluva two hour show, singing all of her hits from back in the day, some newer material (all very good) and a number of cover tunes, including a medley of Abba songs from the Broadway hit “Mama Mia” which she starred.
Her band consisted of a smoking hot little blond playing guitar and bass, a percussionist / DJ, a drummer and two backup singers. All were excellent in their roles.
The meet and greet was over an hour wait after the show, but by the looks of the line after us, she probably didn’t get out of there until one or two a.m. There had to have been several hundred of us.
She was just as sweet in person as I had imagined and took time with each and every fan to talk for a few minutes, take pictures and sign stuff.
Overall a perfect night, although standing for two straight hours at a time takes its toll the following day. And we have another half dozen concerts still to go to this season!
As Sgt. Murtaugh would say - “I’m too old for this shit”.

So another classic crooner Tony Bennett has passed. And I truly get his iconic status and longevity in an industry that can and will spit you out as quickly as it accepts you.
But since Friday, both MTV Classic AND MTV Live have been playing his music and videos NON-STOP 24 / 7.
And the saddest thing is, he only has SO many videos, most of them from the last few years and his duets with Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, k d Lang, Elvis Costello and other from his MTV Unplugged show.
And both channels keep playing them over and over and over again. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
I’d rather sit through “Yo MTV Raps” than see “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” for the twentieth time in two days!
I bet those tuning in for the three or four hours of “Metal Mania” usually shown on Fridays are still shaking their collective WTF heads.

Was it the 1990's? This one really hot woman I knew was into the cigar & martini bar set. They always played Tony Bennett songs. His best role was in Analyze This. He was singing in Billy Crystal's backyard as a favor to Robert De Niro

Garth and his wife Trisha Yearwood REALLY doing their best to alienate even MORE of their fans.
Their latest tweet asking for fans to “donate” to the Ukraine war effort.
Sorry - but the half trillion Sleepy has already thrown that way from my tax dollars WITHOUT ANYONES consultation or permission is ALL the contribution that “effort” is going to get out of me.
They’re worth around a half billion combined - how about THEY write a nice little cheque with a bunch of zeros on it to Zelensky?
Or fill up Dallas Stadium a few nights in a row and donate ALL of those proceeds?
Probably because if people knew what their $100 tickets were going toward, I bet the place would be half full at best.
Don’t you just love it when rich people tell us how WE should spend our hard earned money for causes they likely haven’t donated a penny to?

So it’s another 90 + humid as hell night here in Cin City and we find ourselves at Riverbend Music Center for our tenth (? - maybe more - I’ve lost count) concert of 2023.
Train is in town for a special private concert for employees and their plus one of my wife’s company.
The show also included a $10 food voucher (which neither of us used) and two drink tickets (which we took full advantage of).
Now, I knew who Train was and liked their music, but this show was even better than I expected.
In addition to all of their hits (Drops of Jupiter, Hey Virginia, Marry Me, Save Me San Francisco, Calling All Angels, Drive By and others), they also threw in quite a few partial covers of Whole Lotta Love, Come And Get Your Love, The Joker, Hey Jude and Faithfully.
They also did a full version of Tom Petty’s American Girl and their first encore was The Eagles Hotel California. Singer Pat Monahan even jumped onto the drums ala Don Henley. I had know idea he could rock the kit!
They played a full two hours and were one of the best shows we’ve seen this year. And we still another half dozen to go to before the end of the year!
Might be an all time record and Jimmy Buffett didn’t even tour this year, who we haven’t missed in 33 straight years (other than the Covid year when everything was shut down, including OUTDOOR concerts!

Caught Edwin McCain last night at a small venue up near UC called the Ludlow Garage.
It only seats a couple / few hundred, and of course, we were in our usual front row.
It’s a bit infamous as the Allman Brothers recorded a live album there which is one of their best.
Getting back to McCain - we probably ALL know his two hit ballads “I’ll Be” and “I Could Not Ask For More” and I went into the show based on my limited knowledge of those two.
What an excellent surprise to see that he can actually rock with the best of them and his 2 1/2 hour set had the place hopping.
Every song was a little piece of his life, from marriage and children, to 30 years on the road to rehab.
And not only were the songs and lyrics excellent, but so too was his and his band consisting of only another guitarist, a bassist and drummer.
Their keyboardist / sax player had caught Covid, so he said they left him at the Super 8 somewhere in Illinois.
Funny stuff - as were most of the tales he told between songs.
Nothing I love better than pure music played and sang by pure musicians. The sound in this place is outstanding and the three and four part harmonies were nothing short of the Eagles in their heyday.
Money well spent for a weekday show. And the venue has a bar / restaurant to boot and possibly the best French Fries I’ve ever had ANYWHERE!!

Saw an article that ran in Billboard listing the top 50 lead singers of all time.
There were a number that while I agreed should be on there, I didn’t quite get their positioning.
And maybe it’s because I’m an old fart at 61, but there were probably close to 1/4 names of singers and bands I’d never even heard of.
And SO many omissions, I couldn’t begin to list them here.
A mumbling Kurt Colbain made the top five. Jagger was number one - a GREAT frontman, but not even in my top ten of great voices.
One that REALLY killed me was Steve Perry at 30, while others, including the above two as well as Jack White, Stevie Nicks, Michael Stipe and twenty plus others were considered better.
Even worse, Janis Joplin was in the top twenty, I believe. She would definitely make my top 50 WORST singers, but no way in Hell BEST.
My cousin once had her car broken into and had close to a dozen or so CD’s stolen. They only left one behind - Janis Joplin’s Greatest Hits.
I STILL laugh about that one!
