LeBron James injury update: Lakers fear star forward could miss extended period of time due to foot
James seemingly hurt his foot during Lakers' comeback win over Mavs on Sunday
By Sam Quinn 3 hrs ago • 1 min read
LeBron James will miss Tuesday's game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies due to right foot soreness, the Lakers announced Monday. D'Angelo Russell, who sat out of Sunday's thrilling victory over the Dallas Mavericks, is currently listed as doubtful with a right ankle sprain, whereas Anthony Davis, who played on Sunday, is listed as probable. Of the three, James' injury is by far the most concerning. There's some fear that James is likely to miss an extended period of time due to this injury, CBS Sports' Bill Reiter confirms.
James helped lead the Lakers to their biggest comeback in 21 years on Sunday when they overcame a 27-point deficit to stun the Mavericks in Dallas, but that victory came at a cost. James seemingly hurt his foot in the third quarter but stayed in the game to help complete the comeback. He scored 26 points and added eight rebounds and three assists in the victory.
Now, however, the Lakers are reportedly bracing for James to possibly miss multiple weeks while he recovers from this foot injury. That is time the Lakers simply cannot afford to lose. At 29-32, they currently occupy the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference. Their next three games after Tuesday all come against play-in contenders. They face the Thunder on Wednesday, Timberwolves Friday, and Warriors on Sunday.
The Lakers have a 5-9 record without James this season. They survived an early stretch without him due to the incredible play of Davis, but he is only now rounding back into form after missing almost two months himself. The Lakers defeated the Warriors without James in their first game after trading away Russell Westbrook, but Golden State was missing Stephen Curry.
Now the Lakers will have to rely on Davis and Russell, their new point guard, to keep the team afloat while James recovers. If this injury is as bad as the reports indicate it could be, though, the Lakers are at risk of surrendering too much ground in the standings to survive his absence.

The NBA is populated by pussies nowadays. A friend stopped by during that Sunday game. I called out three consecutive plays where I said they would take a three pointer. Then I said LeBron & Davis seem to swap time on the IL.
After my friend left, I saw LeBron twist his ankle. There we go.

Lakers' D'Angelo Russell: Officially probable Friday Rotowire 18 HRS AGO Russell officially holds a probable designation for Friday's game versus the Raptors, Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
Coach Darvin Ham indicated earlier in the day Thursday that Russell will make his return to the floor and will start Friday, so the probable designation seems more like a formality than anything else. Barring a setback in the next 24 hours, look for Russell to reclaim his spot as the starting point guard, moving Dennis Schroder back to a reserve role.
Lakers' Anthony Davis: Probable Friday Rotowire 18 HRS AGO Davis (foot) is probable for Friday's matchup against the Raptors.
A right foot stress injury continues to land Davis on the injury report, though the Lakers can't afford to rest him much with LeBron James (foot) sidelined until late March. Davis has appeared in three straight games, averaging 35.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 blocks in 35.3 minutes.
Lakers' Dennis Schroder: Returning to bench Rotowire 21 HRS AGO Coach Darvin Ham said Thursday that Schroder won't be in the starting lineup for Friday's game versus the Raptors, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
D'Angelo Russell will replace Schroder in the starting five Friday after missing the previous six games with an ankle injury. However, Ham mentioned that Schroder will still be in the mix to finish games, meaning he should still receive significant minutes off the bench.

Lakers' Anthony Davis: Cleared for action Rotowire 5 HRS AGO Davis (foot) is available and will start Sunday's game against Utah, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
As expected, Davis, LeBron James (foot) and D'Angelo Russell (foot) have all been upgraded to available and will likely play heavy minutes with the Lakers fighting for playoff positioning. Over his past 11 appearances, Davis has averaged 26.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 blocks in 35.9 minutes per game.
Lakers' LeBron James: Officially available and will start Rotowire 5 HRS AGO James (foot) is available and will start Sunday's game against the Jazz, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
As expected, James, Anthony Davis (foot) and D'Angelo Russell (foot) have all been upgraded to available and will suit up for the regular-season finale with the Lakers fighting for playoff positioning. Over his past six appearances, James has averaged 24.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 32.3 minutes per game.
Lakers' D'Angelo Russell: Available to play Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Russell (foot) will be available to play Sunday against the Jazz, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
Russell is good to go for L.A.'s regular-season finale, and he'll draw a favorable matchup against a Jazz team that is resting most of their main guys. Feel free to get him active.
Lakers' Dennis Schroder: Out Sunday Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Schroder has been ruled out for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Jazz due to soreness in his right Achilles.
Schroder will miss his second straight game, which should result in more minutes for Malik Beasley and Lonnie Walker. Schroder's injury seems relatively minor, so he should be good to go for the Lakers' postseason run.
Lakers' Shaquille Harrison: Not expected to play Sunday Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Harrison, who agreed to a one-year contract with the Lakers earlier Sunday, isn't expected to play in Los Angeles' regular-season finale versus the Jazz, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
After his 10-day deal with the Trail Blazers expired, Harrison quickly found a new home in Los Angeles. He'll provide the Lakers with depth in the backcourt and on the wing during the postseason, though he likely won't immediately enter head coach Darvin Ham's rotation. Harrison, who spent most of the season with the Lakers' G League affiliate in South Bay before joining Portland a week and a half ago, averaged 8.8 points, 6.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 24.0 minutes per game over his five appearances with the Trail Blazers.
Lakers' Tristan Thompson: Won't debut Sunday Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Thompson, who agreed to a one-year contract with the Lakers earlier Sunday, won't play in the team's regular-season finale versus the Jazz, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Thompson will be available for the Lakers during the club's upcoming postseason run, but he won't be asked to play any minutes until he gets at least one or two practices under his belt. The 6-foot-9 center most recently appeared in 51 games in 2021-22 between stints with the Kings, Pacers and Bulls, averaging 6.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 15.7 minutes per contest. He could challenge Wenyen Gabriel and Mo Bamba for the top backup role behind starting center Anthony Davis.

Hard to believe the Lakers defeated the Warriors in their series 4 games to 2. While I'm obviously happy they're advancing, it also points out how meaningless the regular season has become. They were 43-39 in the regular season.
They actually have a good white player. That's been since Gasol. Austin Reaves can flat out ball. A couple weeks ago highlights were on & I told my buddy Armando to watch this guy. Armando said he looks like a geek. Then Reaves got a shot off in traffic & nailed it.
"Whoa!"
Exactly.
They've nicknamed him "Hillbilly Kobe."
Street Clothes has stopped taking all those ill-advised three pointers. He's sacrificing for the team.

The Lakers were getting pounded by the Nuggets, until they switched off Street Clothes for Hachimura. Jokic had been eating Davis' lunch & spraying him with wheat bread shrapnel. 'I said no crust!' After that switch, Jokic stopped scoring & Davis caught fire. You could see Jokic was nervous about putting the ball on the floor vs. Hachimura. Reaves hit three three pointers in a row & the Lakers closed to within three points. They lost 132-126.
Denver has to figure out what to do about Hachimura. This was a moral victory for the Lakers.

At one point in the fourth quarter LeBron went down & Ham didn't call a timeout. I liked that. What are you going to do if every time your ancient superstar grabs his ankle you call a timeout? It's not about you, LeBron. It's about the team.
Lakers still lose & trail 2-0 in the series.

Lakers' Anthony Davis: Struggles with shot in loss Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Davis totaled 18 points (4-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 9-11 FT), 14 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal in 41 minutes during Thursday's 108-103 loss to Denver in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.
Davis struggled from the field and failed to replicate his 40-point outburst from Game 1, but he still provided his usual production on the glass and on defense. Across 14 appearances this postseason, the veteran big man has averaged 22.3 points, 13.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 3.2 blocks across 37.6 minutes per game. Despite his strong play in other categories, the Lakers will presumably need Davis to perform better on offense if they're going to get back into the series.
Lakers' Rui Hachimura: Scores 21 points off bench Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Hachimura totaled 21 points (8-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 30 minutes during Thursday's 108-103 loss to Denver in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.
Hachimura went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field en route to a game-high 17 first-half points. Despite a lack of aggression in the second half, the fourth-year forward still finished one point shy of tying LeBron James and Austin Reaves for the team high in points and led all bench scorers from either team in scoring. Hachimura has proven capable of being a dynamic offensive threat off the bench in the playoffs thus far and is off to a hot start in the Western Conference Finals, posting 19.0 points per game while shooting 76.2 percent from the field.
Lakers' Austin Reaves: Strong performance not enough Rotowire 6 HRS AGO Reaves had 22 points (8-16 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, five assists and one steal across 36 minutes during Thursday's 108-103 loss to the Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.
Reaves has finished with at least five made threes, 20 points and five assists in each of the first two games of the Western Conference Finals. Across 14 appearances this postseason, the second-year wing has averaged 16.4 points, 4.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 35.7 minutes per game while shooting 43.2 percent from deep. Reaves has been the Lakers' only consistent three-point shooter in the playoffs thus far and should continue to handle increased usage while he's playing at a high level.
Lakers' LeBron James: Will be ready for Game 3 Rotowire 18 HRS AGO James twisted his left ankle in Game 2 against Denver on Thursday, but according to Chris Haynes of Turner Sports, he said he'll be ready for Game 3 on Saturday.
James stepped on the foot of Aaron Gordon and was evaluated after the game. The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter, so it was not the reason why he settled for a lot of three-pointers. With the Lakers trailing 2-0, it's clear that James will be ready to give it his all Sunday even if he's not 100 percent.

The Lakers hung with the Nuggets until the middle of the fourth quarter. Then it was one bad shot after another.
Down 3-0 in the series.

I forgot to mention the Lakers wound up getting swept. The Nuggets figured out a way of neutralizing Hachimura. He only went 3-12 from the field. Jokic went off for 30 points, 14 rebounds & 13 assists. He even had 3 blocks. That guy couldn't jump over a sheet of paper with a running start & he got 3 blocks.
Well, the Lakers never should have been where they were anyway. LeBron scored 40 in their losing effort.

If Miami closes things out tomorrow in Boston, this might be the worst NBA Finals TV ratings in history. Two pretty small markets where the NBA isn’t exactly their biggest sports attraction. GO DODGERS!!!

GO DODGERS!!! Miami SHOULD have a following. Is it three championships now? I'm old as dust & remember the ABA / NBA merger. The Pacers & the Nets sucked dog shit through a straw. But the Spurs & the Nuggets were very entertaining. Hey. They would be only the second NBA champions from the old ABA.
