I created a thread called "Are the Baseball gods cutting us a break?" in about the first weak of the season, when we only had Turner on the DL of all the key players. Since then, we've had Hill, Forsythe, Puig, Cingrani all go down, and in a single weak, Ryu went down, Seagar is out for the season, and worst of all, Kershaw will be back the gods know when. How is it we keep angering the baseball gods? And is that even an adequate excuse, considering last year we again led the bigs with players on the DL and had a super year? Several of our guys had career seasons, but this time around, it seems they're having their worst seasons. The bullpen has only had a couple of changes, but its one of the worst in the bigs and we keep serving up homers and not hitting very many. Even Jansen isn't himself. But it's a little early to be saying what they said in Brooklyn: "wait till next year". This could be an incredible season if we get it together.

Why is Taylor taking so many called third strikes? Was he asked to be more patient? He's leading the league in called strikeouts. That's not a category you want to be leading. It's like he's looking for that absolute perfect pitch. Guess what, you're not going to get most of the time. |

It's like he's looking for that absolute perfect pitch. Guess what, you're not going to get most of the time. I'd be interested in how much of this trickles down from the front office. The team still isn't running. |

Why is Taylor taking so many called third strikes? Was he asked to be more patient? Any & all batters know if they have 2 strikes on them, ya should protect the plate. Face it, it's not our year after already so many injuries already. I already said the bullpen out of 8 guys 5 of them are horrible, I'm not too concerned about starting pitching yet (just health) & Buehler has learned. Major issue along with pen is the injuries, but in general lack of consistent speed or power, we have NO definition of what kind of hitting approach we should be taking? Players such as Taylor & Puig maybe trying to do it all by themselves? Puig has enough trouble staying consistent, he may never get it at the plate... Injuries have wiped out our infield, even when Turner & Logan come back when don't have the patience as hitters (a problem that plagued us in WS swinging at obvious low pitches Astros were going to throw instead of fastballs). I'm one of the fans who think it's not our year, so once it's obvious hopefully they call up younger players instead of these retreads I'm seeing now (they're awful). I look at our top 30 prospects & that list has changed dramatically, we don't have any kids ready as far as pitchers who can throw fastballs 97 mph or hitters who can hit for average or power not named Buehler or Verdugo? I know this FO is paying themselves since they got here, too many chiefs & not enough Indians! I don't trust this front office & they look at their paychecks instead of upgrading the bullpen or adding a hitter. They're in budget mode & if they lose out like of LA teams for Harper & others, I'm still believing they have NO plan. PS: I appreciate Kershaw but if they whine up giving him a Kobe contract just to keep him they're fools! Injuries have already ruined this season, but try to enjoy the rest of 120 games... |

Saying Max Muncy has no guts is a bit extreme. The team right now just isn't that good.
Injuries this year are far worse than last year.

Read an article that showed that from 2001 to 2016 the Dodgers are second in MLB in terms of days on the DL. That spans multiple ownership groups, GMs, managers, and trainers, so it’s tough to single out this year as something out of the ordinary. The Dodgers deal with more injuries then almost every other team, that’s just how it is for whatever reason. |

Kevin Brown, Darren Dreifort, Jayson Werth, Milton Bradley, J.D. Drew, Brad Penny, Rafael Furcal, Nomar Garciaparra, Andre Ethier, Chad Billingsley, Hung-Chih Kuo, Matt Kemp, Jason Schmidt, Andruw Jones, Randy Wolf, Vicente Padilla, & Juan Uribe. At one time or another, all of these guys were synonymous with injury. But we know Fox, Dan Evans, Frank McCourt, Paul DePodesta & Ned Colletti didn't really care. Well we know McCourt didn't really care.

All the experts say that though most favor the Monks, ours is still the team to beat. Gavin's injury is a severe blow to this team but so it was with that '17 team and the '21 team, but both teams won over 100 games.
You might recognize a few people who've dropped out of our forum. There seem to only be 5 of us now.

All the experts say that though most favor the Monks, ours is still the team to beat. Gavin's injury is a severe blow to this team but so it was with that '17 team and the '21 team, but both teams won over 100 games. You might recognize a few people who've dropped out of our forum. There seem to only be 5 of us now. Guess people find other things to do with SO many sites and social media outlets these days. The MLB board had literally hundreds of regulars and even though some were obnoxious pains in the asses, there were some pretty knowledgeable fans there as well. I love your optimism 21, but those teams all had above average backups as well as talent that FAR surpassed these guys. We’ve basically replaced a half dozen all stars with a bunch of guys I’d never even heard of before they signed, including Vargas, Rojas, Heyward, Peralta, Wynns. I knew of Outman from his minors work for LA and he has been as advertised, thus far. The pen is the biggest problem and I really don’t think they’re going to improve a whole lot if they have to continue pitching four or five innings EVERY SINGLE night. Despite their work tonight as well as a couple of nights ago after Kershaw, Vespa, Mary, Delmonte, Jackson (now gone) and Bruhl are middle of the road relievers at best. They have blown more leads in games this year than they have held. Phillips, Ferguson and Gaterade seem unhittable with a three or four run lead, but very shaky in ties or one run games either way. Who knows if and when we will ever see Hudson and Train Wreck again and how effective they will be when they do return. And we STILL have no named or actual closer / stopper that we can count on to close out the ninth. And worst of all - we have an uninspired and disinterested manager who 90% of the time looks like he’s thinking about anything BUT baseball. I can easily see these guys below .500 come September. GO DODGERS!!! |
