I had to revive this thread I started back in '18 when that team, coming off that world series stolen from us by the Trashtros, were 8-10 on this date and 12-16 for April but regrouped to win another pennant. All the experts say that though most favor the Monks, ours is still the team to beat. Gavin's injury is a severe blow to this team but so it was with that '17 team and the '21 team, but both teams won over 100 games. You might recognize a few people who've dropped out of our forum. There seem to only be 5 of us now. Guess people find other things to do with SO many sites and social media outlets these days. The MLB board had literally hundreds of regulars and even though some were obnoxious pains in the asses, there were some pretty knowledgeable fans there as well. I love your optimism 21, but those teams all had above average backups as well as talent that FAR surpassed these guys.
We’ve basically replaced a half dozen all stars with a bunch of guys I’d never even heard of before they signed, including Vargas, Rojas, Heyward, Peralta, Wynns. I knew of Outman from his minors work for LA and he has been as advertised, thus far. The pen is the biggest problem and I really don’t think they’re going to improve a whole lot if they have to continue pitching four or five innings EVERY SINGLE night. Despite their work tonight as well as a couple of nights ago after Kershaw, Vespa, Mary, Delmonte, Jackson (now gone) and Bruhl are middle of the road relievers at best. They have blown more leads in games this year than they have held. Phillips, Ferguson and Gaterade seem unhittable with a three or four run lead, but very shaky in ties or one run games either way. Who knows if and when we will ever see Hudson and Train Wreck again and how effective they will be when they do return. And we STILL have no named or actual closer / stopper that we can count on to close out the ninth. And worst of all - we have an uninspired and disinterested manager who 90% of the time looks like he’s thinking about anything BUT baseball. I can easily see these guys below .500 come September. GO DODGERS!!! THe Outman and the Vargas brothers provide some youthful exhuberance that the vets feed off of. We've discussed that '18 team but do you recall the '85 team? On this date, it was 6-6 and in 3rd place. The team left many runners in scoring position, and the fielders made many errors, notably by Steve Sax. I remember when a ball would be hit his was at home, you could hear the crowd groan in anticipation that he'd throw he ball away. The Monks led the division and were flying high, with newcomers Lamar Hoyt and Tim Stoddard. Hoyt and 2B Alan Wiggins were suspended for drugs and the team started downhill, and about the same time, the Dodgers pulled themselves together and took over first in mid-July and never looked back. The big guns in the lineup like Pedro Guerrero, Mike Marshall and Greg Brock came to life and the fielding improved too. Though the team lost the playoffs to the Cards, thanks to Jack "the ripper" Clark's grand slam, it was a great season. I remember Vinny hosted a TV special, going over the entire year including Steve Howe's stupidity. Don't give up the ship! THat '85 team, on the heals of the sub .500 '84 team, looked like they'd repeat that performance. Those Monks are certainly beatable, as they proved to be in '85. I think if we had this forum back then, you'd be just as critical of that team as you are of this team. IT's a long season and you never know.

Without a doubt - I am more of a glass half full than half empty kind of guy. I HOPE you are right. We’re SO used to winning and running away with the division that every loss this year seems worse than the one before. And the way they have lost games this year with SO many games given away by the pen is certainly something we haven’t seen in years. It doesn’t look like anyone is going to run away with our division this year, but we can’t seem to do much more than win one, lose one, which pretty much explains our .500 record. I believe I heard one of the announcers say LA hadn’t won two in a row since the first week of the season and had only taken one series all year. I’ll be very happy to cook up and eat a big old pot of crow stew if these guys actually start putting a few win streaks together. But I think we cal all agree that there’s no way in this or any world that they put together a 42 - 8 run like they did a few years ago and 90 wins, while possible, is more of a longshot than sure thing. GO DODGERS!!!

THis make me sick to my stomach. No aspect of the Dodgers game is impressive right now. The starting pitchers can't hold the opponents to less than 3 runs. Both starters and relievers walk too many, allow far too many steals and aren't getting clutch outs. Ks are down, BBs are up, and clutch hits are up.
The hitters are leaving way too many runners on. Just today, 3 times Dodgers loaded the bases, only for Teosk, Mad Max and whoever else to K and leave them on. There was a clutch single by the slumping Freddy but now maybe he's pulling out of it. Showtime K'd with bases loaded.
The team is now 12-11 and has lost yet another 3 game series. Will this be a sweep?
But cheer up beloved, slumps happen to every team every year. I"m glad this one is only in April. I predict that by this time in May, we'll have forgotten all about it. Remember the '78 team! That team was 28-27 at one point, in 3rd place but then the team took off, and by mid August, after battling the Commies and Gnats, took over 1st and didn't look back. There is way too much talent on this team to finish with a WP of .522 where it is now. It seems very discouraging now but happier days are not far ahead.

While I seem to have become the grumpy old neighbor next door at only 62, I think Daisy has to be gone and gone soon. And his replacement just might need to be one of those fire & brimstone dudes that will kick these guys in the ass when they need it. Which is right about now. GO DODGERS!!!

With the hitters, it really is that feast or famine thing that Friedman insists on. Freeman is about the only one who uses the whole field. Mookie is immensely talented. But when he's on a hot streak, he's pulling the ball. Like all pull hitters, he's streaky. Ohtani is obviously a generational talent. He strikes out a lot too. Smith is a great hitting CATCHER. That's the operative word. Muncy, I've been wanting gone. Teoscar has been better than expected thus far. He struck out 211 times last year. What happened to squaring up the ball? It took bigger bases & oven mitts for Andrew to allow base stealing. Now we need to go one step further & stress situational hitting.

No guts! Injuries, shmingeries! Ever since that game against Royalty a few weeks ago when Mooky went down and Yamaha and Grover went down the next day, Dodgers have hit the skids. And the pitching has surrendered an ungodly number of homers and our guys have hit maybe a third as many. They're 3-7 in the past 10 games and now it's onto a 3 game series with the Striped Kats.
I realize this team has had a horrific number of laid up pitchers over the past year and a half, but you'd think the pitchers called up, some before they were ready, could at least get decent starts. THey have a real hard time getting the 3rd out, and several times 2 or 3 runs score after the first 2 hitters were out. And there's been bad luck involved like last nite, when what should have been called an error was ruled a single and 2 runs scored because of it.
The team ERA is now 3.71 and is 7th in the bigs. Before this slump started, it was 2nd and it was looking like they'd overtake the Horsies for the best staff of all. Why was Bobby brought back so soon and after proving he wasn't ready for Miller time? He was majorly roughed up the other nite and his ERA is over 8 and he was rightly sent back down, to work on his mechanics, he said. Glassman is the latest starter to go down and Jwrob was the surprise pitcher to make his debut after 3 AAA starts.
THe hitting is no better, with RISP left on by the dozens, including with bases loaded tonite. The only run scored on a solo homer. THe Out Man is still fanning, Showtime is slumping, as is the rest of the lineup.
Nothing is clicking, both hitting and pitching. I"m tempped to root against the Dodgers for such poor play.
