I like Matty playing RF. I know he isn't as athletic as Puig but Puig keeps on making bonehead plays. With a loss in weight and defensive positioning Matty looks good out there. He is also threw out Rizzo the other day, lol. I would like to see Kike- Verdugo or if Joc isn't traded in LF/Toles in CF/Kemp in RF. The Dodgers have some decisions to make this winter. Puig is arbitration eligible & then becomes a free agent in 2020. Do the Dodgers give him a big contract & risk him going back to sleep? Could Verdugo take his place? How much is Grandal worth? If Muncy is the real deal, Bellinger might be our centerfielder. When Seager comes back, that makes Taylor expendable. I liked the Scooter Gennett idea. We would really be lefthanded heavy then though. I definitely think Puig should be traded. His numbers aren't all that and the numbers are mostly in meaningless situations. And, we've seen the the higher he hits the more he sucks. The team has options in the outfield and if by some out of this world travesty those other outfielders don't work out then there are affordable outfielders on the market every year and I trust the front office at finding gems. I would move Joc as well even though he seems to have more meaningful at bats than Puig. But, I've had enough of the status quo out there. I want both Toles and Verdugo playing. And, it would appear that Matty would play out his last year here. I like the scooter idea if he continues to hit because he will cost some good prospects. I think it's probably more of a possibility that the team trades for scooter than overpays for Machado at the deadline and in the off-season only because they have a good working history with the Reds, we'll see. You make an excellent point about being left- handed heavy. It wouldn't matter too much if those lefty bats can hit both lefty and righty pitchers I suppose. We have Edwin Rios in the minors who has hit and may force Bellinger to the outfield which wouldn't be bad since Belli can run and throw and is extremely athletic. Muncy is another great story but he seems more fit to DH if he keeps hitting. Going forward I wouldn't mind Verdugo in LF/ Toles in CF/ Bellinger in RF with Kike filling in. You can also go with Taylor in CF if they don't play him at 2nd or obtain someone else.

Like you said though, Kemp is here one more year. Hopefully he's still productive.

Muncy as our full time 1B? No thank you! He is having a career season at the plate, to be sure. But he is not even remotely close in defense as compared to Cody. I’ve seen him whiff more than once on balls in the dirt and let’s face it, not every throw from the infield is going to be waist to chest high.
I’ve yet to see him challenged on sharply batted balls, but those are certainly going to come over a 162 game season. Bellinger has shown he could develop into one of the superior 1B in the game (if he can continue to work on his swing and pitch selection). Do we really want to sacrifice that defense for a “journeyman”?
Max has been an excellent fill-in and utility infielder for a half a season. I believe it’s WAY premature to anoint him a full time position for the future, especially when we already have a far superior player for that position on the team.
Also - RESIGN PUIG! He may be frustrating and foolish at times, but the dude is ELECTRIC and brings excitement to just about every game he plays in. He’s never going to be a clean-up basher who hits for power and average near the top half of the order. But he’s show he can and IS productive in the seven or (preferred) eight hole.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Run production is needed throughout the order and if Puig can do 30 / 100 from lower in the order, is that really a bad thing?
GO DODGERS!!!

Like you said though, Kemp is here one more year. Hopefully he's still productive. I think Taylor has to figure into the equation somewhere being that he has 3 more years of control. I do like Muncy's bat so far but the team should consider moving him to the AL. He would be a very hot commodity being that he would be under control for 4 more years. An outfield of Kike/Verdugo/Toles/Bellinger would seem to fit the bill defensively and offensively. But it depends whether or not the team sees Belli out there or at 1st. He is awesome in the outfield and golden at 1st. That would leave a spot at 1st either for Edwin Rios or another right- handed bat that they could acquire or if they want Belli at 1st then they can acquire a right- handed outfielder. Thinking about it Machado as a right handed bat is much more needed than I thought. I know there is some baggage but he seems impactful enough to tolerate some of it. I mean even Kershaw throws fits if he is pulled before he thinks he should. Right now there are a lot of questions and options. Machado or a potent starter? I would prefer the arm but deGrom would probably bankrupt the farm. The off- season should be an interesting one as well. The team should know who is staying, who will play where, and know about their finances if they don't know all of that already. I guess this season to keep some good defensive balance in the infield and offensive potency all around I would go as follows if Machado comes: 1. CT3 2B 2. Muncy 1B 3. Machado SS 4. Belli CF 5. Kemp RF 6. JT 3B 7. Grandal C 8. Toles/Kike/pick whoever stays from Joc or Puig for defense. 2019: 1. CT3 CF 2. Seager 2B 3. Machado SS 4. Bellinger RF 5. Kemp LF 6. JT 3B 7. Muncy 1B 8. Realmuto C Toles Verdugo Kike Barnes Off the bench. Pretty stacked lineup in 2019 😊

Agree about Muncy that he might be a one hit wonder and we won't know until the year is over what he might be. His defensive limitations are the reason the Dodgers should try to get whatever they can if possible. Some will cite Justin Turner's sudden offensive ability in his later years however the difference is that he is a very good defender at 3rd and Muncy isn't very good anywhere. I disagree about Puig. No reason to pay him when there are others that can do what he does and possibly better. Can he be electric, yes. Is he electric enough, no. He may one day reach his full potential however I will say it won't be as long as he is here. The Dodgers shouldn't let an opportunity slip away if something can be had for him that is another opportunity since they shopped him previously.

And therein lies the rub. Attempts to trade Puig were unsuccessful and I don’t see teams lining up to offer top prospects or established players for him at this point.
I think if Doc would just plug Yasiel into the seven or eight hole permanently, he’d continue to produce and possibly even hit .300 +. But constantly moving him around in the line-up isn’t helping Puig or the team.
Since I believe he’s under control next year and then arbitration eligible the year after that, there would have to be a pretty significant offer for him if I was running things. And I just don’t see any team making that.
There are options in the minors, but do any of them bring to the table anything close to what we have seen from 66? At this point, I just don’t see it.

I get it's a sticky issue for Puig fans. I wouldn't suggest trading him if I saw an affordable and dependable player going forward. He might not fetch much in a trade but I've heard that the team is looking to dump some money to fit guys that they would acquire under the threshold. I might be generous in suggesting that he might be looking at an increase to $15 mil per season or higher from his current $9.2 mil. Granted I am speculating on that but if so that for a player who the higher he hits in the lineup the worst he is just doesn't equate. Moreover his defense which is said to be his strength is not reliable enough in my opinion. He doesn't throw guys out anymore for whatever reason and then when he throws he doesn't throw the runner out at 3rd and allows the batter to take 2nd. It was said in a telecast that teams are looking to advance to 2nd when there is a base hit with a runner on 1st, that's the league's scouting report. Plus, it's been 4 years since he hit around .300, that's a long time.
As far as I know he has an arbitration year next year (2019) and then he hits free agency. I look at it in that Puig gets hurt and then we move an All- Star over to play RF who obviously is not as athletic as Puig but one that is lighter and might do the fundamental plays that aren't entertaining but help win games, that along with defensive positioning and an offensive game go a long way. This team has overcome losing or letting go some fan favorites over the years, all if not most of those have been good moves. I think it will be wise for the team to invest what would be Puig money in some other areas or pay a little more and get a better bat. I think they should move him if the opportunity arises.

That’s a LOT of “if’s” for just one player. I would agree that his fielding has been less than spectacular this as opposed to previous years and his throws have been erratic at times. But he also gets to a LOT of balls that 90% of the rest of the league, including and especially Matt Kemp miss. And I was probably one of the few here happy to see Matt’s return as well as opine that he would not be traded prior to the start of the season. I don’t think there’s a chance in Hell Puig gets $15 mil in arbitration and is probably looking at $12 max. Is there anyone else in that range that brings as much to the table as Yasiel via free agency or trade? If I knew the answer to that, I’d be on a jet to Vegas tonight to place a few bets. I think the boys did a pretty good job of salary dumping this season and we still have the BIG question with Kersh. If he opts out, do we let him and his $35 mil a year go? Do we go after Machado and / or Harper? I’m glad I don’t have to make those calls; but I think the one on Puig is a no brainer. Keep him in blue at least thru arbitration unless the “deal of the century” arises. Personally, I don’t see it happening - but you never know. GO DODGERS!!!

Keep him in blue at least thru arbitration unless the “deal of the century” arises. Personally, I don’t see it happening - but you never know. GO DODGERS!!! There are no "ifs" for me. I'd trade him if the team could add a bullpen arm or to sweeten a deal. I will definitely agree that he is faster than Matty. But, to say that he gets to 90% more balls than the rest of the league I'd bet is highly inaccurate. Someone that likes to look at defensive metrics has cited that Puig is not worth the bang for the buck he has cited Rtot -- Total Zone Total Fielding Runs Above Avg for Puig in RF which shows -9 in comparison to Kemp at +5 I just look at it simplistically like this Puig throughout his career has averaged 1.8 chances per game playing right field. That's a pretty low number of chances to be making boneheaded plays on. No, I didn't say Puig would make $15 mil in arbitration. I am saying he might make that or more in free agency. I would agree that in arbitration this offseason he could make $12- 13 mil. Puig is a good major leaguer but the Dodgers have plenty of those and with what Puig will start to make it's time for him to produce more than he does. If I am mistaken and he is worth a hefty raise and every single penny of a new contract then I am sure it won't be the Dodgers picking up the bill. I don't see Kershaw opting out. I wouldn't want Harper but would consider Machado if he can better his defense at short stop for the rest of the season or if he reasons and goes back to 3rd. I would say move Puig in his last year of arbitration. He is due back in around two weeks so we'll see what the team does with him prior to this deadline and if so for the rest of this season.

Machado is intriguing - but who do we give up to acquire him for a few months of rental? He’s already stated his preference would be NY & they’d be the forerunners to sign him in the offseason, especially if he can play his preferred SS with them. With Seager back next year, it’s unlikely Manny gets that offer from LA.
An outfield with both Toles and Verdugo, with Kemp moving back to right should they move Puig is concerning. Neither one of them has proven they can be everyday players and hit for average and / or power in my eyes. Joc, Kiké and CT have also shown signs of inconsistency far more often than not.
I certainly agree that the Dodgers shouldn’t overpay for Puig and $15 mil per would fall into that unless he goes on a major tear after the break and even then, I’d question that kind of money per annum. It’ll certainly be an interesting second half and off-season for our front office.
We’ve been the class of the division most of this decade and I’d be overjoyed to see this trend continue, with a WS title or two added to the mantle. Our farm is one of the best in baseball, we have excellent ownership, management, coaches and players. We can, and likely will get better this and future years.
It’s a great time to be a Dodger fan!

GO DODGERS!!! Machado is indeed intriguing and the Dodgers can certainly afford him being that Kershaw and JT are up in two years and Kemp and Hill are up after next year, that's $150 mil off the books. They don't have to worry about paying Seager and Bellinger until 2021. Seager is the more complete player but he is not considered one of the top five guys in the majors as some say about Machado. To add I don't see any of the young pitchers, while good, breaking the bank, except for Buehler in a few years if he stays the course. If the Dodgers trade for Machado I expect them to sign him. No way they lose prospects and the player they traded for. I've heard that he wants the Yankees too but a lot of players if not all want to play for that iconic franchise. If he comes here for the next two months and is given a reasonable offer I think we have a really good chance to keep him, a really good one. If he wants to stay at short then that is something to think about unless he betters his defense which is possible. Seager can go play 2nd base in the DJ LeMahieu mold while JT is up or gets moved. Then either one of Seager or if Machado reasons can move to 3rd. You might be right in knowing how the team operates that they might rather wait for Seager to come back and pass on Machado. However, if I had a choice and it were me, right now, I would try for someone like deGrom instead of Manny, lol. Your concern about the lack of experience in Verdugo and Toles is legit. But, we can't have expensive All- Stars at every position, lol. Totally agree that the next couple of weeks will be interesting for sure and will determine this team's fate for the rest of the year. I am down with division titles it obviously says that the team has had a successful year. But, I would be ecstatic if they can mix in a few championships in there as you say. I often cite the 90s Braves as winning their division 10 years and showing only 1 ring for it. I understand that rings are hard to come by but I would rather accomplish what the mid 90's and up Yankees did instead of the Braves. I hope we can get one this year.

Have to admit I never considered the possibility of Seager playing second base. He would be one big azz second baseman. But it would fill a need & lessen the strain on his surgically repaired elbow. Yet one more reason Taylor would be expendable. I like Chris too. But if you have Bellinger covering centerfield, & Machado playing short, with Seager there in a pinch, why not dangle Taylor as trade bait?
C - ? 1B - Muncy (yeah. Rip me.) 2B - Seager 3B - Turner SS - Machado LF - Kemp CF - Bellinger RF - Verdugo
Still think we need another righthanded bat.

But I think he can do it for a season or so until JT's contract is over or he is moved, especially for the reasons you have stated. Hershiser brought up an interesting point about playing 2nd nowadays. He said that with the shift it's usually the 3rd baseman or short turning a double play that and with runners being unable to take out the 2nd baseman while turning a double play because of the Utley rule makes it so much easier for guys to play 2nd. I am not opposed to trading anyone on the team if it makes sense. So, if CT3 needs to go then so be it. I do think though he would be needed back in CF or LF and is cheap. Don't get me wrong I like what Muncy is doing but if it were me I'd sell high on him to a AL team so he can DH. I love Matty as well and have always rooted for him on our team and I make it obvious but let's face it he will be on the last year of his deal so it wouldn't be bad if the team can move him as well. Nothing wrong with your lineup and if we go out next year with it I'm sure we'll totally kick some butt. I don't know how realistic it is to keep Verdugo though because I heard Verdugo and Alvarez for Manny then Lux and May and now Verdugo and Alvarez again but the holdup is Keibert Ruiz which the team does not want to move. It would be nice if we could move some money and trade for Realmuto but seeing in how the team is high on Ruiz and there are two other catchers moving up in the minors it seems like a long shot. Good things happening though.
