A holiday we used to take for granted may be approaching it's expiration date. This is a good time to reminisce about our childhoods. Holding sparklers. Dad lighting roman candles. The neighbors with rockets. The smoke. Maybe a barbeque the day of. Then we did it for our children. Our pets going crazy. The fireworks stands have been up for about a week now. I hear the whiz & explosions. Sleet hiding. Shadow & Snowball are the inside kids, who never had to hide under the house. The passing of an era.

Dont forget the little black “pills” that you could light and they’d then expand and grow like snakes before turning to dust and blowing away. Remember the SUPER sparklers? They were three or four times longer and thicker. Or M-80’s? They were great for blowing up mailboxes. Not that we would ever do that - you know - federal crime and all. Went to see the township fireworks last night. Really excellent display that lasted nearly 40 minutes. GO DODGERS!!!

Sleet was hiding under the bed. It never felt right her & Sly being out on the 4th. But what are you going to do? Whistle them in? But the time the explosions would start, they were already under the house. I always liked the whistling fireworks. Every year I'd get a big box & set them off for Tessa. She'd get her sparklers. Mom liked to go see the shows before she died. I think she knew any one of those shows could be her last. I found a park where we could park & there were no obstructions. We were the only ones there.
