The Dodgers are already $11,754,302 in the red as far as payroll taxes go. Torres hit 24 homeruns last year. He's hit as many as 38. No telling what the Yankees would want for him.
Kiner-Falefa doesn't look like any kind of upgrade over Ramos.
It would also necessitate moving someone like Taylor, if they really want to get under the threshold.

Don't do it. He'll be a free agent after the season. Don't give up the farm for a rental, that you would have to re-sign to a massive extension anyway. Totally agree. You know just the usual. "Hey Shohei, we checked in on you and wanted you hard but the Angels didn't want to deal you over to us." So the guy doesn't catch any feelings and then bring him in in the offseason.

so we lost the best hitting ss in baseball, and replaced him with the best defensive ss in baseball 2022. I'm loving the rojas trade, I'm a big fan of great defense at ss and centerfield. Also Rojas is a leader, personally I'd rather see him at short than Lux, so will our pitching staff. Vargas looks promising at second. I'd give center field to Outman I don't know. For me the guy needs to hit. If Heyward wins CF because he's hitting and Outman forces time in LF because he's hitting then it frees up Taylor who hit more. I get that you need good defense at SS but I wouldn't call Seager a great defensive SS and they made it work well.

Then Ohtani uses the Dodgers as leverage to get $500,000,000 from somebody. Anybody.

Thor looked pretty good starting today. I think Rick Monday said he threw but 28 pitches in 3 innings today. His fastball isn't the speed he'd like just yet but his change and slider are doing the job. Also, Dustin looked great in 3 innings, with 3 Ks, 1 BB and 1 single. Gavin Stone got 2 Ks and a fly ball to the warning track. Not worried about the rotation at all.

Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin injures ankle, scratched from Wednesday start
Gonsolin lost his footing during a drill on the back field of the Dodgers’ spring training complex. Left-hander Justin Bruihl departed Monday’s game against the Padres with a back injury.
By DOUG PADILLA | PUBLISHED: March 6, 2023 at 4:29 p.m. | UPDATED: March 6, 2023 at 9:22 p.m. GLENDALE, Ariz. — In what first appeared to be innocuous at first, and embarrassing at worst, Tony Gonsolin lost his footing after completing a drill on the back field of the Dodgers’ spring training complex.
The right-hander, who missed more than a month of the second half last season with a forearm strain, fell down and rolled over on the infield grass before getting to his feet to join the rest of the Dodgers pitchers lined up just outside of the third base line.
As Gonsolin continued to step lightly on his left foot, he went into a nearby dugout where he was visited by a team trainer. He got into a motorized cart and was driven back to the clubhouse.
The Dodgers diagnosed Gonsolin with a left ankle injury and labeled him day-to-day, adding that he will not make his second start of the spring as scheduled on Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners. Right-hander Michael Grove will make the start instead.
Manager Dave Roberts was hopeful that Gonsolin would be back soon.
“It was just some random freak thing walking off the field during (pitchers’ fielding practice) so it wasn’t fielding a ground ball,” Roberts said. “Day to day, mild left-ankle sprain so we’ll see what happens.”
The Dodgers expect to know more about the injury at some point Tuesday, which is a rare off day for the team. As of now, an MRI on the ankle is not scheduled.
Roberts had just talked about the positives of how Gonsolin was able to make two late-season appearances, including one in the playoffs, after his forearm injury last season.
“Tony has moved on from last year after last season’s kind of sour taste and went back to work,” Roberts said early Monday morning. “He looks great and understands that he wants to be able to post and if he can post, he’s going to help himself and us.
An All-Star last season, Gonsolin was 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA but ended up making only 24 starts after missing all of September. He was 11-0 in the first half with a 2.02 ERA while being named to the National League All-Star team.
In his lone start this spring, Gonsolin did not give up a run on three hits in 2-1/3 innings against the Angels on Friday.
The Dodgers see Gonsolin as being motivated to prove he can back up last season’s numbers with another big season.
“It’s like you have things line up for one year and then the test is can you back that up and follow that up and really cement yourself,” Roberts said. “That remains to be seen. My bet is that it will happen for him but you don’t know until you know.”

SHORT DAY Gonsolin wasn’t the only pitcher to deal with an injury Monday. Left-hander Justin Bruihl departed Monday’s game against the San Diego Padres in the ninth inning with a back injury after facing two batters.
Roberts characterized that injury as another day-to-day situation.
“Just a bad walk (and) a hit by pitch,” Roberts said of Bruihl’s time on the mound. “He just said his back went through a spasm or something but it was just back tightness.”
Bruihl was 1-1 with a 3.80 ERA in 24 relief outings last season after he delivered a 2.89 ERA in 21 outings (two starts) as a rookie in 2021.

BEST WISHES FOR TURNER Roberts checked in with his former third baseman, Justin Turner, who was hit in the face by a pitch while playing for his new team, the Boston Red Sox, on Monday. Blood appeared to be flowing from Turner’s mouth after he was hit by a fastball from the Detroit Tigers’ Matt Manning in a game at Fort Myers, Fla.
Turner was taken to a local hospital for observation, according to reports.
“It was scary,” Roberts said. “I shot him a text right when it happened. Hopefully, he’s fine. I haven’t heard since, but that’s just a scary thing for everybody.”
By Monday afternoon, Turner’s wife, Kourtney, tweeted that they were home from the hospital with “16 stitches and a lot of swelling but we are thanking God for no fractures & clear scans.”

Dodgers' James Outman: Boosting roster chances this spring Rotowire 13 HRS AGO Outman has gone 6-for-13 with a triple, a home run, three runs, four RBI and a 2:3 BB:K through 17 Cactus League plate appearances.
Outman showed well in a brief cup of coffee with the Dodgers last season, going 6-for-13 with a pair of doubles, a homer and three RBI over four contests, though he also struck out seven times. His stat line so far this spring is eerily similar, with the notable exception that he's fanning less often. Both sample sizes are admittedly small, but with Los Angeles parting ways with Cody Bellinger in the offseason and recently announcing that Chris Taylor will play more shortstop due to Gavin Lux's season-ending knee injury, there may be room for Outman on the Opening Day roster. In terms of fantasy, he's ascending up dynasty ranks and could be an impactful player in all formats as soon as this season if he's able to secure substantial playing time with the big-league club.

Via trade I assume that Anaheim will want to fleece us as well so that's a no- go. Will be interesting.

Look at Correa's saga this winter. Frisco for 350 million. Mets for 300 million. Finally, the Twins for 200 million. I wouldn't be surprised if after that circus he said he was so glad to be back in Minnesota. The franchise is storied. The community is great. His kids love the schools. I'm so proud to be a Twin. That was an embarrassing, & highly revealing, fiasco.

Dodgers News: 9 Players Are Cut from Big League Camp at Spring Training
Story by Clint Pasillas • 6h ago
With the spring training schedule in full swing, there come some tough decisions along with the way for clubs. Who do they want to keep their eyes on and who needs to get out of the way? For the Dodgers, they cleared some room in the clubhouse with their first set of roster cuts of the spring.
Nine players were reassigned to minor league camp on Monday, none from the 40-man roster. Two pitchers land in the top-30 prospects pipeline for LA.
Dylan Covey Landon Knack (20 on the pipeline) Robbie Erlin Nick Nastrini (10 on the pipeline) Bryan Hudson Jordan Yamamoto Nick Robertson James Jones Outfielder Yusniel Diaz, most famously known as the guy the Dodgers traded to acquire Manny Machado in 2018, was also assigned to minor league camp.
The clubhouse at Camelback Ranch will certainly be a lot roomier following the cuts. And, with players departing for the World Baseball Classic for the next two weeks -- 7 players to be exact -- there will be plenty of room for activities.
22 days remain on the Cactus League calendar before opening day in Los Angeles. 59 players remain in big league camp.

Dodgers News: Andrew Friedman Leaves Door Open for Walker Buehler Return This Year
Story by Noah Camras • 3h ago
He hopes to see his All-Star pitcher back later this season.
Dodgers All-Star RHP Walker Buehler is slowly working his way back from Tommy John surgery. Buehler hasn’t pitched since June of 2022, but has been rehabbing, and even started throwing from 60 feet earlier this week.
The Dodgers have been very cautious about rushing him back from his second Tommy John surgery, and manager Dave Roberts’ recents comments only further the fact that this team does not know when he’ll return.
However, Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman recently went on MLB Network’s High Heat with Alanna Rizzo, and laid out somewhat of a timeline for a potential return.
“I'm not sure what the timetable is,” Friedman said. “I know that he has been working really hard. I know, like you said, he is itching to get back tomorrow but he's been through this before. So I think he gets it as well and we're just going to continue to take each phase of the rehab and be thoughtful about it and get him back to stay back. And so whenever that is we'll make that decision. But I know in his mind he wants to get back this year and pitch near the end of the year and be a weapon for us in October and we'll see what happens.”
While the Dodgers would love to have Buehler back for the end of this season and postseason, they would also like to have him healthy for the remainder of his career. The last thing the team wants to do is rush him back after a second Tommy John, so expect them to be extra cautious as they work Buehler back to full health.
I think the 28-year-old will make a return this season, but I don’t expect it to be until late September or October, and he definitely won’t pitch more than a couple innings. He’ll be a reliever, and hopefully, play a big role for this team in a long postseason run.
