Amen. But it looks like we aren’t going to have to worry about Lux playing shortstop this year. I’ve SEEN that knee injury before. It looked ALOT like what I did to mine, only instead of buckling to the side, mine was a straight on hyperextension with full kneecap displacement and ACL / MCL tear.
I wish the best for Lux, but I fear he’s looking at major surgery a full season of rehab. GO DODGERS!!! Ouch! Wonder if the added weight played into such a clumsy looking move on Gavin's part. It’s certainly a possibility. I was always pretty big - tall and skinny in high school and then bulked via daily workouts for 20 + years after that. I was a solid 240 when I was playing ball five nights a week and weekend tournaments. I’m sure all that upper body muscle and weight didn’t do my knee any favours. But sometimes you just make a bad move and / or step / land wrong that something’s got to give because joints and ligaments and bones can only handle X amount of “flexibility” and when that is pushed past those limits, bam - you’re screwed. GO DODGERS!!!

Hopefully Dr. Dave can refrain from premature prognoses. I don't want to hear what you HOPE it is. Wait until we get the test results & a real doctor's recommendations. Amen. Six years ago, when living in Idaho, I was taking a walk and slipped and fell on the ice in the middle of the street. It turned out to be a fractured tibia plateau and I had to stay totally off it for seven weeks. It was a total of eight weeks of five days a week hyperbaric therapy, then physical therapy for a month. About another month and I was just fine. A bone takes longer to heal than soft tissue, but there's no telling at this point till tomorrow. I needed an X ray, but since he needs an MRI we know it's not his bone. Remember spring training 1986? Pedro Guererro slid awkwardly into third and missed all but 31 games. So that sounds like the worst case scenario at this point.

Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux injures leg while running bases, carted off field Story by Victoria Hernandez, USA TODAY • 30m ago Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux had an injury scare on Monday in the team's spring training game against the San Diego Padres at Peoria Stadium in Arizona. In the sixth inning with the Dodgers up 2-1, Lux was on second base after hitting a single and Steven Duggar was walked. The next batter up, Luke Williams, hit a dribbler, so Lux ran from second toward third base. Padres third baseman Jantzen Witte threw the ball to second base and Lux swerved to his left to avoid being hit. He landed awkwardly and fell to the ground before rolling into third base while clutching his knee. Lux had to be carted off. and Jorbit Vivas took his place on the bag. Just when Gavin hit a solid single off a lefty pitcher, I was planning to write a post that you raised your son right. Poor guy, he worked so hard this winter but it seems mostly for naught. But on the bright side today, Pepperman has learned how to throw strikes, 17 out of the 21 pitches, after runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs. He K'd Machado, then a fly out and a pop out. His new delivery he talked about has apparantly paid dividends, if today is any example.

Dodgers News: LA Adds Free Agent Shortstop Following Gavin Lux Injury
Story by Noel Sanchez • Yesterday 6:00 PM
It is still unknown as to just how severe the injury Gavin Lux sustained against the San Diego Padres in Spring Training is. The Dodgers, however, are preparing to have backup just in case he is out an extended amount of time seeing that they have signed Bryson Brigman to a minor league deal not too long after the game.
The signing was first reported by MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman.
Brigson is 27-years-old and has already logged six seasons in the minor leagues. Despite him not having much experience actually playing in the majors, the Dodgers have little time to mull decisions over due to Spring Training games already kicking off.
The Gavin Lux injury is a huge blow to the team and their plans for this season. He was set to have a huge role and even if it's not a serious injury, he'll miss important time where he should've been getting reps in and building chemistry.
Team manager Dave Roberts spoke about what he knows so far in regards to the severity of Lux's fall.
"He heard something pop... we don't know a whole lot right now so he's on his way to get an MRI," said Roberts.

Dodgers News: Insider Says Gavin Lux Will Be Sidelined For ‘A Long Time’
Story by Noah Camras • 12m ago
A source reportedly called the injury “bad.”
The Los Angeles Dodgers are yet to officially announce the status of starting shortstop Gavin Lux. The 25-year-old exited Monday’s game with a right knee injury, that looked pretty bad in the moment.
Lux was carted off the field, and manager Dave Roberts said after the game that he was undergoing tests.
While the team still hasn’t made a formal announcement on the injury, ESPN’s Buster Olney spoke to an ‘industry source,’ who reportedly called the injury ‘bad.’
Olney says the injury will keep Lux off the field for ‘a long time,’ which is not what any Dodger fans want to hear.
Lux was getting set to have a breakout year, finally getting the opportunity to play shortstop, his natural position his entire life.
The Dodgers had high expectations for Lux, who came into camp looking really good and ready to prove the doubters wrong.
At this point, it feels like best case scenario would be Lux missing a few months, and being able to return later in the year. But we’ll know more soon, and will continue to update you on the story.

Out for the year - torn ACL. Damn - I HATE it when I’m right. Big mistake letting Trea walk - they should have extended him when they had the chance. I’m SURE his desire to play back east would have waned had there been enough years and zeros on the offer. Kinda get the feeling this is going to be a VERY meh year for our boys in blue. GO DODGERS!!!

GO DODGERS!!! Nah. Philly gave Lux 300 million dollars. They'll be paying him until he's 40. I'm comfortable with letting him go under those circumstances. But the Dodgers won't get a single game out of Lux this year. Frustrating.

Gavin Lux injury: How Dodgers can fill in at shortstop after season-ending ACL tear, including Miguel Rojas
The trade options are limited this close to the regular season By Mike Axisa 2 hrs ago • 5 min read
The defending NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a devastating injury Monday afternoon. Starting shortstop Gavin Lux tore the ACL in his right knee after stumbling on the basepaths, the team announced Tuesday. He'll miss the entire 2023 season, manager Dave Roberts said.
Lux, 25, was the Dodgers' primary second baseman last season and he was slated to slide over to shortstop, his natural position, to replace Trea Turner this year. Turner of course signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent. With Lux injured, Los Angeles' shortstop depth chart now looks something like this:
LHB Gavin Lux (out entire season with knee injury) RHB Miguel Rojas RHB Chris Taylor (expected to see most of his time in the outfield) SHB Yonny Hernandez (career .198/.293/.228 hitter in 55 MLB games) As far as Plan Bs go, you could do a lot worse than Rojas and Taylor at shortstop. They are a step down from Lux though, and a significant step down from Turner. Even before Lux's injuries, FanGraphs projections had the Dodgers about five games behind the San Diego Padres in the NL West. That gap is a little wider now.
What could the Dodgers do to replace Lux at shortstop? Here's an overview of their options, which are fairly limited at this point in the baseball calendar.
Stay in-house
Miguel Rojas
This is almost certainly what the Dodgers will do. Rojas was brought in to provide depth behind Lux and he's a viable everyday shortstop thanks to his glovework: 15 defensive runs saved and 10 outs above average in 2022. The bat leaves something to be desired, but Rojas can play short and play it well. Plugging him in as Lux's replacement is the easy, straightforward move.
"It's unfortunate what happened to Luxy," Rojas told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. "But if that means me playing shortstop, that's what I need to do. I prepared for this opportunity. I need to be ready for it."
Taylor had a down season in 2022, his worst season since joining the Dodgers in 2017, and he struck out in an alarming 35.2 percent of his plate appearances. Still, he remains an option at shortstop should Los Angeles need him. Hernandez is a second baseman more than a shortstop with good contact skills and basically zero power. He's an emergency option.
Top prospect Miguel Vargas was already slated to take over second base with Lux shifting to short. He has never played shortstop in his career and in fact he's a natural third baseman with fewer than 30 career games at second. Fellow touted prospect Michael Busch is a second baseman and left fielder with no shortstop experience. Both have MLB-ready bats, but neither is a shortstop candidate.
The Dodgers acquired Rojas over the winter specifically because he can play shortstop and play it well, and with Lux now sidelined long-term, Rojas will almost definitely step into the lineup to play the position. It's the obvious move. Taylor will be the backup plan and Hernandez is now third on the depth chart in the event of another injury.
Then this author names some free agents that seem like non-starters.
Make a trade
One name immediately jumps to mind: Isiah Kiner-Falefa. The New York Yankees are holding a shortstop competition this spring and Kiner-Falefa, the incumbent, is battling top prospects Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe for the job. Peraza impressed during his September call up last year and even got some starts over Kiner-Falefa in the postseason.
The Yankees passed on all those great free agent shortstops the last two offseasons because they believe in Peraza and Volpe so much. Kiner-Falefa was brought in to be a stopgap until the kids are ready and Peraza sure seems ready. That doesn't mean the Yankees will give Kiner-Falefa away -- he's still a useful depth piece -- but I'm sure he's available.
Other potential shortstop trade candidates include Paul DeJong (St. Louis Cardinals), Josh Smith (Texas Rangers), and Taylor Walls (Tampa Bay Rays). Keep in mind teams are very aware Lux suffered a major injury. If the Dodgers makes calls about a shortstop trade, they can expect big asking prices. Teams won't help Los Angeles out of the kindness of their hearts.
It would be a surprise if the Dodgers did anything other than hand the shortstop reins over to Rojas in the immediate aftermath of Lux's injury. He is a capable everyday shortstop thanks to his glove, and if they're not gonna start him now, what was the point of giving up a solid prospect (Jacob Amaya) to acquire him? This is exactly why the Dodgers brought Rojas in.
Now, should Rojas see his game slip at age 34, then the Dodgers can reevaluate and maybe make a change at the position during the season. There's no reason to do that yet. Free agent options are nonexistent and there's nothing terribly appealing on the trade market. Rojas will be the guy at short and the Dodgers won't make a change until they're certain it's necessary.

It sure seems to be a trend these days to pay these guys well past their primes. I guess the next thing we can expect from the Turd is multiple DH’s in the lineup so these guys can all still have jobs when they’re too broken or old to play defense. It’ll be JUST like softball then! GO DODGERS!!!

Football takes players in & out of games. Why can't baseball pick their lineups in the 9th inning? I tasted my own bile at the mere suggestion. Don't give Manfred any ideas.

This really isn't so bad. I mean, obviously it is for Gavin. But we were hoping for a breakout season from him. If the youngsters live up to their hype (Vargas, Outman), plus a couple of veterans like Taylor & Thompson, we can survive this. The Padres might reel off 110 wins. Seems like the Dodgers did something like that last year. Then they got bounced by a Padres team that didn't even win 90 games. AJ Preller is a screwup until he proves otherwise.

Sure, it'll be SS by committee. And there's that SS in the Yanks' system we can trade for with one of our prized prospects not names Pepperman, Miller or Stone. Nick Nastrini is starting to get serious attention, for starters, no pun, as is Emmit Sheehan, and Andy Pages. WE'll be OK. We survived the losses of Dustin and Trevor the same season we won 106 games. But with those Monks vsatly improved this year it won't be a cakewalk, but it can be revenge!
